October 30, 2014: Introducing Kim Morrison! Construction Continues! Building The Bridge!
The enigmatic Kim

She’s like a shadow in the night – dark, mysterious, silent and stealthy.  One second she’s there, the next she’s gone.  Then, she’s sitting behind you, sipping her coffee!  I’ve never seen her come or go and yet, somehow, whenever I turn a corner, she’a there – appearing as if by magic.  Her name is Kim Morrison and her title is Executive Producer’s Assistant, that much I know – but little more.  She remains enticingly enigmatic, her past and predilections as elusive as a ninja panther in ballet slippers.

After almost two weeks, let’s review what I know about Kim: 1. She enjoys flavored coffees.  2. Her eyes are like two Infinity Mind Gems set in Silmarils.  3. She’s a writer!

Intriguing, no?

This begs further research.

Meanwhile, construction continues on our standing sets and I’m pleased to report that the bridge of our ship, The Raza, is taking shape.  Work has also started on the lower decks and the main section of our recurring space station set.  The latter will serve as a port of call for wary travellers, offering food, comfort, and occasional trouble.

I plan to amass a library of EVERYTHING, from amazing Art Department designs to photos and video tours of the finished sets.   By the time we’re done, you’ll all have the know-how to design your own home spaceships!

They’re moving quickly.  And noisily!

A final batch of auditions to review.  Tomorrow, we make our second round selects!

Oh, and I’ve got to finish up my pass on episodes #1 and #2.  I’ll be sitting down with the Art Department to discuss our two-part opener next week.

  1. Girls = 5
Boys = 3 (Jay, Joe, Jelliot)
    Woot!! Girls rule!

“By the time we’re done, you’ll all have the know-how to design your own home spaceships!”

Wow, you’ve just made a lot of people very happy.

  2. Oh and would you please stop blurring things out. We really can’t see anything anyway. I promise. 🙂

  3. Jeez…that noise sounds like something going through its death throes.

Intriguing, indeed. Keep ’em guessing Kim!

I already want to buy the DVD just to get all of your behind-the-scenes goodies. Honestly, this is only show that will bring me back to Syfy. I gave up on them after SGA.

  4. Hi Kim! I can’t believe how fast everything is coming together for the bridge set! When did they start, about 2-3 days ago? Anyway, it’s looking great, and you can already start to visualize how it’s going to look. So cool.

The big question is, when are the official “Dark Matter” hats, mugs, and T-shirts going to be available?? 🙂

I’m off to PEI for the weekend to visit my friends over there – and to see their new golden doodle, Riley! I know that no dog will ever be able to replace Toby, but I’m sure Riley will be awesome in his own right. (Warning, some doggie pics might be posted over the weekend! 🙂 )

  5. Hey Kim! How YOU DOIN’?! (insert Joey voice).

The bridge is coming along nicely.

    Facebook page is Liked.

    Can’t wait for the premier!

  6. ~Welcome to Kim!
    >Joe it makes me do my happy dance to see you back in the saddle again, where you belong!. Have you had anything exciting to eat to share with us? You must keep up your strength.

  7. Welcome Kim!

    Writer? Intriguing, yep!
Mysterious, silent and stealthy? I think this is a textbook case of Virtual Assistant and Ghost Writer. Of much use in your case so relieve you of many tedious tasks, such as maintaining the blog and answering emails on your behalf.
Btw Kim we really notice your collaboration, when we see things like: “Her eyes are like two Infinity Mind Gems set in Silmarils.” This can´t be Joe. 😛

The pretty eyes question: You know if/when Vanessa-Kim-Paul are together in a same room can then produce an apocalyptic implosion of beautiful eyes quantum field and create a dangerous singularity.

Very good rate of construction but still can not see where the toilets are.

  8. Welcome Kim!

The set is really coming along. That would be a fun project!

    gforce: Have a great trip!

PBmom: Praying everything works out for ya!

  9. Ditto what Paloosa said about the SyFy channel. I’ve been boycotting them since they canceled SGU. I waited until Continuum went to Netflix before I would watch it. I’ve been promoting your show on Twitter and with SGU fans on my Yahoo group.

  10. As stated by Ponytail … I cannot wait to see all this:
“I plan to amass a library of EVERYTHING, from amazing Art Department designs to photos and video tours of the finished sets. By the time we’re done, you’ll all have the know-how to design your own home spaceships!”

YES-yes-yes!!! Oh my goodness – YES!

Facebook page “Liked” and recommended to many, many FB friends, relatives, even folks I barely know! Sorry, do not Twitter.

This is SO exciting Joe and I also agree with Airelle – THIS is where you belong, seeing your wonderful writing take shape, guiding everything to match your vision. How thrilling! Your excitement is contagious.

Welcome and hello to Alison, Kim, Caitlin, Natalie, Elliott, Jay, Vanessa, and everyone working hard building the sets!
You should all know, we are a built-in audience and we are MANY. Keep up the great work!

  11. You’re killing me, Joe. It’s looking more and more like I need to consider a move to Toronto! 😉

You wouldn’t happen to have any openings for Executive Producer’s Assistant’s Assistant, would you? 😉

    I keed, I keed!

It makes sense to me how fast the sets are going up, when I think about it. While I’m sure most set builders are building things weeks in advance of the actual shoot dates, I think one can safely assume that by the very nature of their work(weekly, episodic television), set builders have to be fast and VERY good at what they do. I’d love to watch them do their thing. Everything from the main structure stuff to the guys that do all the final detail work. The way they use painting techniques and finish manipulation to illicit a person’s imagination to “fill in the gaps” is still that bit of TV magic that I never tire of. It was one of the many things I was marveling at when I saw a lot of the props from the SG franchise at the Seattle live prop auction. I’ll never forget the “Staple Guns”. The coolest!

  12. Hi Kim
    Hi Joe,

I think you have done more promotion for Dark Matter in the past week than Syfy does for most of it shows for the year. or perhaps I just don’t follow their attempts at promoting their own shows.

Next you should introduce us to all those guys that building The Raza.

  13. So much magic happening in that construction area. It’ll be really cool to see what it all looks like once it’s complete. I hope it goes smoothly.

  14. Very Exciting!!!!! More casting insider info. please 🙂
