“I am melting sleepy. I can’t take it anymore.” – Akemi, last night, apparently VERY tired.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m considering adopting an elderly pug in memory of my boy Maximus. I’ve been scouring the pug rescue sites and came across the twosome pictured above. Buddy and Junior are brothers, aged 15 and 13 respectively, looking for a good home after being surrendered by an owner who was no longer able to care for them. I was only considering one dog at first but these seem doubly in need – and the prospect of separating them is too heartbreaking to consider. So I filled out the adoption paperwork and we’ll see how it goes. But given the fact that they are both seniors, the question that begs asking is: Will they be able to keep up with my pooches’ high-octane lifestyle?
Yeah. I think so.
A couple of fabulous meals out and about recently…

Some of the highlights included:

Then, the other day, a lunch outing…

For dessert, we took a walk down the block to Thierry. Not a fan of the macarons here, but les gateaux sont delicieux! We enjoyed a chocolate assortment:

+ 70% chocolate ganache = my favorite), and a couple of whisky truffles for good measure.
I’m about the jump on a conference call to discuss some future opportunities. Should be interested.
I’m sure those dog will fit in just fine!
Not to put too fine a point on it, but that poutine looks like someone barfed on a plate. Ew. The rest looks great though. I’m sure it tasted good though.
Good luck on the conf call!
Not sure of my last comment took. (Using my iPhone at the Toronto airport).
Good luck on the conf call!
I’m sure those pups will fit in just fine.
Sure hope Akemi was able to catch up on sleep. Love the Akemism.
Aawwww, the brothers look like they are interested in you too.
Lulu might be the only “high octane” to discombobble the rest of the pack…but then she is used to being with more mature babes.
Food looks great as usual – now to make some din-din.
Wow, 15 and 13? That’s incredibly sweet of you, Joe! Any dog(s) would be lucky to have you! Then again, if anybody read your last sentence in today’s post, you might not able to adopt anything, EVER. They’d wonder what you were smoking…

Foreigners…:)
My hometown chocolatier has finally joined the 20th century. Not the 21st; the website lacks a few bells and whistles.

Local grocery behemoth HEB is offering macarons this week, at their high-end Central Market. I’ll make a run there and try to find out whether they’re made in-store or sourced from a vendor.
Awww. Brothers! The chocolate desserts look pretty great, too.
The dogs look great. How will you tell them apart?
Have you ever noticed, Joe, that most of the lovely ladies you take a picture of in a restaurant all have the same look on their faces. A sorta “If we weren’t in public I’d shove that camera up your A$$” kinda look.
Elminster
That’s wonderful! Buddy and Junior look very dignified. I’ve seen older pairs come in and, I suppose it’s the stress, they are usually very attached to each other. Bless you for keeping them together. Does this mean you’ll be getting a larger car? One with an extra row of seats perhaps. 😉
Das: Thanks foe the video. I haven’t noticed the “fat” trait in spotted cats before but I’ll start watching now 🙂 . We got Harry’s weight from 27 to 24.7 lbs before Christmas (26 lbs now) but I left food out while we traveled. Apparently, Harry WILL eat until he explodes.
Beautiful pictures! Those desserts look yummy!
Those two brothers will certainly have a great home with you. 🙂
Maybe relatively soon we can all have our very own replicators, sort of:

Cool video of Dr. Who set as an 8 bit video game.

Haha, Tim. That was awesome. I just finished re-watching series (that’s BBC for season) 5 & 6 last night, too. Those seasons are so awesome I can’t stand it. Now I’m going to be hurting for some science fiction until I can go pick up a Kindle someone’s giving me that’s packed with science fiction.
Those 2 boys are pretty handsome lads. They do not look that old. Hope they can come live with you. Can I come live with you?
That dessert looks heavenly. I’ll take what is pictured. You can order something for yourself.
Good to see Sarah again…oh, and her boyfriend too. Love his big smile! Has he completed his trailer duties?
Thanks a lot Tim Gaffney for posting that link. 🙂
The first thought I had of the brothers before I read further was that are such handsome lads. They both look like they’re very healthy and happy pups. Any very ones lucky too! I hope the adoption goes through.
Although I’m wondering how much time you’ll have to spend with them considering all the projects you have in the fire. What happens if most come through?
And to this day, I still cannot figure out how you can eat so much food and not look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
I’m so excited and am pulling for you to add two new boys to your group! Yea!
@ Joey and Akemi – I am melting sleepy, too. Went to bed at 4:30 am, woke up at 8, and have been running all day, just so busy! Got my Japanese garden cleaned out and the bamboo spout and basin running, so feel pretty good about that. It still needs some attention, but for now at least it’s presentable. That’s how I started the day, and it’s been nonstop ever since. I think I’m basically sleep typing right now. I’m so tired that when I saw ‘Thierry’ in today’s entry, I thought the blog was going to be about Gene Tierney. 😛
And Joe, I think you’re pretty special adopting the brother pugs. I hope things work out! I know they’ll have a great life with you and your brood. 🙂
Sweet dreams!
das
Hope u get the doggies……
Pug rescue should read this nlog and they wouldknow ehat a great Dog Father u are.
Double adoption = Awesome Joe.
Yeah, I gotta agree with gforce on the look of that poutine. I’m sure it tasted good, but it’s not gonna win any awards for attractiveness.
Joe, I’ve got a question for you. Do you remember the location (or know the location manager to ask) for the season 6 SG-1 episode “Paradise Lost”? I’m specifically talking about the location where O’Neill and Maybourne get zapped to and then trapped — with the lake/pond and surrounding mountains. Here’s a screenshot: http://www.gateworld.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=134&pid=142550#top_display_media. I’m location-hunting for my nuptials and just want a scenic locale to set up a tented reception surrounded by natural beauty. If you can’t find out that location, can you think of other, similar beautiful places that would allow a big tent and lots of people? (That’s why I’m thinking about places that have allowed film crews on their property: they’ve already seen the worst that can happen.)
I’d appreciate any help you can give. Vancouver parks pretty much don’t allow a damn thing on their property. No more than 20 chairs, total! And no music! It’s really frustrating trying to find a venue that isn’t a boxy conference room with overpriced-catering strings attached. And I really want something that shows off the natural beauty of this area, since that’s the whole reason I moved here in the first place.
Bravo for being willing to adopt older dogs. That takes courage. I find it heartbreaking, for them and the previous owner, that they lost their home. I know you’ll give them a good home and lots of love.
@Tim – another thing, when my husband kept asking at critical moments what was happening, I wish I’d said, “Wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff” instead of “Uh, well, time has… um, see he has to die, but…there’s this robot, you really just gotta’ watch both seasons”.
Forgot to add that I hope your conference call went well. Also, I have to admit that “melting sleepy” is a very apt term. Sometimes it takes someone with a fresh perspective of the language to bring the right words together. Keep those phrases coming Akemi!
Maggiemayday: So….. are all fat cats named Harry? 😉
Cilantro tastes like soap to me also.
Uh-oh Joe, has Lulu seen the picture of Sarah and her boyfriend, hmm.,nice picture btw.
@das, thanks for the kitty video, now I can’t get that out of my head,,lol.
~~and desserts, the chocolate ganache, has to be my favorite, the Publix supermarket here makes a cg cake to swoon for, thats what I want for my bd cake for sure.,coming soon.
Joe, Buddy and Junior would love living in the Mallozzi Puppy Palace, superb accomodations, 5 star *****. Hope the adoption works out.
Oh wow! It’s a pug-a-licious day! Buddy and Junior look adorable, kissable little faces. I hope the adoption goes through for you Joe. They will be so fortunate to join your furry crew.
My work day was spinning the toilet until I read today’s post — now I am heartened to continue on, (rowing frantically)…
Best of luck again,
2cats
You would be a Rescue Dad. And two would make you a double angel. 🙂
Hey Joe I searched your blog and I can’t find what you said about Vala was she even mentioned in the third movie script? Good Luck with the dogs
Is Conan the Barbarian a superhero? Beastmaster?
I just finished watching TMNT. It’s air tight. It’s above reproach. It is a flawless execution of storytelling and drama that puts King Lear to shame. How you gonna’ hate on this one, Cookie? Turtle Power!
@Tam … must be! Although my Harry is s striped silver tabby with white paws and a white nose. Good natured, but shy.
I inherited dad’s two little girl cats. They are 11 and 16. Each one weighs less than six pounds, they are tiny ladies. They were in bed with dad when he died, what else could I do? A niece wanted them, but she has two rough little boys, three big dogs, no income, and a less than stable housing situation. No way I’d let the poor girls go to her. They’d have run away already, and died alone. No, nope, never. I just wish my Siamese would quit trying to ambush them. That’s how I got a hospital stay after a cat bite, breaking up a fight. What used to be the guest room is now the girl cat room. Lovely. I hate locking them up, but they are safe and warm at least. Very pampered, but I have to take turns with them and my boys.
Good luck with the adoption, Joe. I can’t imagine any reason you wouldn’t be approved; you’ve been such a great doggie daddy.
