Akemi noticed she has started receiving targeted ads after simply mentioning a subject or product in conversation.  NOT searched for either online, but merely talked about it.  In the vicinity of Alexa and/or our laptops and phones.  I’ve seen this mentioned before, but didn’t take it seriously until now and I have to ask: Is this legal?  And if legal, HOW is this legal?  And whether illegal or not, certainly pretty damn ominous.  What else are they listening on?  Or watching?  I’m reminded of that old photo of Mark Zuckerberg seated by his laptop, with the laptop camera conspicuously taped up to prevent…what exactly?

Our insurance finally got back to us, but they’re a little low on the estimate so I expect a little more back and forth before we settle.  At which point, we’ll likely be well into TIFF (The Toronto International Film Festival), meaning it will be impossible for us to find a hotel in the downtown area while our place is being restored.  Akemi, for her part, is thrilled at the prospect of discovering a new part of the city.  I am somewhat less enthusiastic – but I suppose it depends on where we’ll be staying.  Looks like it will be a 10-14 day staycation.

I have six of the Amalgaverse missions written out (The choose-your-own adventures in which YOU – as a member of the 20-member crew we are assembling – and your decisions will help steer the deep-space narrative) and have been tinkering with a 50 second opening title sequence complete with visuals and theme music.  I think I may do a closing sequence as well.

Once we finish the current tournament (Non-TrekGate division) we’ll have two seats available. Originally, I was going to do a Women of Sci-fi category (to help address the woeful gender imbalance on this ship) as well as a You Pick division in which the first 24 candidates the fans nominate will face-off (provided they are live-action SF t.v. characters who could logically end up on a spaceship).  I was going to make You, the fan, the 21st crew member.  But now I’m thinking I’ll just make You, the fan, the 20th crew member, which means there is only one slot available.  What do you think?  20 or 21?  Women of Sci-fi or You Pick?  Choose!
