Yesterday, we made the move from our hotel to an extended stay furnished condo that will be our residence for the duration of our time here in Los Angeles – barring any unforeseen occurrences (like us hating the place and wanting to move elsewhere).  The new digs are…interesting.

It has a kind of a South Korean horror movie vibe: cold, creepy, with nary a soul in sight.

The condo itself is quite nice and spacious which is great for us and anyone who wants to come visit, but terrible for Sharky who must map out an entirely new environment on the heels of mapping out an entirely new environment.  The place was also missing a few of the little things, like oven trays, a cutting board, plastic wrap, food containers, cleaning products, a lid for the frying pan, and, oh yeah,  chairs.  Also, the security system is inoperable, the shower door is hammed, and  the sheer bedroom curtains have us waking up at the crack of dawn.  Also also, some child (I hope it was a child) has doodled on the couch.

The neighborhood is quite nice though and we have noticed quite a few dogs in the area.  We are also located close to at least one, possibly two, senior residences.  Akemi suggested we stop by some day to see if they might be interested in Sharky’s services.  He is an absolute laid-back hit at my mother’s residence in Montreal.

The locals are, so far, a generally unfriendly bunch, but I think that’s an L.A. thing.  Hopefully the season 2 writers room will be located in Austin, Savannah, or Charleston.

  1. I wish you could have found a place here in the Valley. Our Sherman Oaks is a very welcoming and friendly community. And we have lots of dogs in our neighborhoods
including Pugs and Frenchies. I know it would not be a convenient location for the writer’s room, but you guys and Sharkey would have been warmly welcomed.

  2. By the way, The new stargate show his for/from Amazon MGM Studios ,if they want a kitchen in the ship and alien based story , why don’t they create a Mackay style amazon Fanatics character and give you access to test their inventory. Might be a good idea for them to send you the Alexa guard latest and the Alexa robot for testing and story purpose , offff course … https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=18021383011#:~:text=If%20Alexa%20detects%20activity%20while,alarms%20or%20carbon%20monoxide%20alarms.

  3. Oh YES! to Sharky visiting with seniors!! They (and he) would love it (him).

Get pictures of all the damage or things that don’t function properly when you moved in. Ideally with your apartment manager in the pictures too looking on. You don’t want to get blamed for it later.

Hope you don’t find a pale, long dark-haired Asian child lurking under your bedcovers or in your closet! 🙁

  4. I’m getting less South Korean horror movie and more maximum security prison vibes. Just replace the vegetation with some stainless steel tables and benches bolted to the floor and add some large men in orange jumpsuits.

  5. The “hammed” shower door sounds kind of delicious.
Just don’t ask me anything about they manage to pickle the toilet seats.

  6. Yikes. The building commons do look cold, lifeless.
Much more reminiscent of an episode of Black Mirror
than a sunny Cal residential building.
Hopefully, Akemi will feel a bit better once she gets a wok and a steamer,
food storage containers, cutting board and wooden spoons, for the kitchen.
I’m sure you both realized prior to the move there would be things
you’d have to bring along or purchase to be comfortable during your stay.
Albeit, much relieved to hear the place is not a total lemon.
The neighborhood shops (at least what you’ve shown us thus far),
    do appear welcoming enough.

    How’s the local farmers market?
Are there other farmers markets in walking or waymo distance to check out??
Maybe go check out a couple comic book stores next weekend?
Always seems to cheer ya up.
And I’m sure Sharky would enjoy a hangout at a dog park. xo
From what I’ve seen online when I was checking out images the other day
West LA area does seem to be very small dog friendly.
Even that MillCross coffee place I came across
has a pug drawing at the bottom of its purchase online page.

  7. Season 2 confirmed before Season 1 even shoots. :p
Would love for this to be the case!

  8. Fingers crossed that the neighbourhood outways the slightly pants horror vibe condo. Sounds like going sarf (south with a London accent) in the UK. Here in Norfolk I say hellooo to everyone and most people are friendly back. The farther sarf if you say hellooo to a stranger people look at you like you’re weird!

  9. A lot of pros and cons in this post. I remember a story @Ponytail told of her working at a drug store. Something about her being consistently positive in the face of this grouchy customer and finally winning him over. Maybe, that will work with the others in your building? 🍀🤞🏻

A friend of mine was in LA last week and felt an earthquake. Were you there when that happened?

  10. Question for you, Joe: do you own or rent your place in Toronto? Hate to think of you spending stupid amounts of money to maintain your home while away for work.

When we moved for my husband’s job back in 2000, his company had kindly paid for us to live in a temporary condo until we could find a place of our own in Richmond, Virginia. Sounds like the apartment you’re at is much like the one we had waaaaay back then.

Chin scratches for your sweet Sharky. I remember how much it sucked to have a furkid who didn’t fare well in having to adjust to new living conditions repeatedly.

Bee tee dubs: the Waymo transpo sounds absolutely nightmarish. I keep flashing to Isaac Asimov’s I Robot… don’t think there’s enough Xanax in the world to help me with that…

  11. Your LA condo is calling for a film-shoot … perhaps the season 2 of Sharky microdrama … LOL
