Given my torrid reading pace to date, I had hoped to get to 500 Crime Reads on the year but, alas, with two weeks left to go in 2025 and having checked out my 418th book today, that seems unlikely.  450 is still doable and pretty impressive, but doesn’t quite resonate as strongly as an even 500.  Meanwhile, my list of recommended titles sits at 41, meaning roughly one in ten of the books I started reading this year were winners.  What can I say?  I’m a tough read.

Speaking of looming deadlines, I still await word on that O-1 visa.  Until I have it approved, I can’t book my flight to or my accommodations in L.A.   Last minute booking charges aside, I’d really like to make sure we get a place in our preferred neighborhood so that Akemi and Sharky can enjoy their stay while I’m working.  Zoom participation is a possibility but, from the east coast, certainly not idea.  No doubt everyone is working hard to make it happened but it’s out of my hands so the only thing I can do now is be patient.  And maybe read another book.

Dennis.  Was kind of hoping Rodney would make the finals.  Going to have to go with Carter here.  And you?

  1. If at all possible, I hope that Martin Gero and you guys can maybe convince Amazon to greenlight a longer second season, if the viewership on season 1 is high enough. I know the days of 20 episode seasons is long gone, but 12-16 episodes would be great. Probably unrealistic but one can hope!

  2. I love Rodney as a character, but I’m not sure I’d want him as my science officer. The constant friction against my decisions would be exhausting. I’m going to have to go with Data here, as much as I love Carter.

Agreed about the musical intro for the new series. Especially with streamed series that aren’t time constrained, I think the addition makes a great addition to the feel of a show.

Good luck on the visa. I worry that in the current environment it may not be a given.

418 books is a crazy amount and a great achievement!
