AMAZONG GREENLIGHTS A NEW STARGATE SERIES
Yes, it’s true. 14 years after the franchise aired its last episode (SGU’s “Gauntlet”), a new Stargate series has been greenlit by Amazon. And it’s not a reboot or a wholesale reimagining that will wipe the slate clean on 17 seasons and some 350 hours of Stargate history. It’s a new series that will be the perfect jumping-on point for first-time viewers while, at the same time, honoring the existing past. And the reason for that is because this new series was created by longtime franchise veteran Martin Gero who worked on SG-1, Atlantis and Universe, writing such notable fan favorites as The Storm, The Eye, Duet, First Strike, Be All My Sins Remember’d and many more.
Joining the production of the new series is Brad Wright, co-creator and co-showrunner of all that came before – Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe. Martin has kindly offered yours truly a role on the project as well and I have happily accepted.
Martin has been developing this show for a while now. A little over a year ago, he reached out and asked “Want to read something cool?”. That something, it turned out, was his pilot script for the new Stargate series. Now I obviously can’t say too much about the content at this point – but I can assure you that it embraces everything that made the original Stargates so great: heart, humor, rich mythology, exploration, action, adventure, compelling/endearing characters, and that overall sense of optimism and fun that made you fall in love with Stargate.
You are all in for a treat.

Now putting this production together is going to take some time even though Martin has already done a lot of the preliminary heavy lifting, writing the pilot script and series overview that details the show, its world and characters, as well as his plans for the first season and beyond. Between now and the series premiere somewhere down the line, the writers room must be assembled, stories need to be spun, scripts written, prep started, crew hired, actors cast and, eventually, a new Stargate series produced.
It will take a while but Martin shares my philosophy when it comes to dialing in the fandom, so expect to receive updates throughout the prep, production, and post process. Concept art, behind-the-scenes photos, videos and insights, breaking news and much much more!

I hope not too much is revealed from production phase (yes it’s optional to look) so excitement level remains very high. Second hope is that you get to work at least with some episodes ^^

Joe, the excitment in your post is tanageable and rightly so.
With Martin, Brad and you all involved the future looks extremely hopefull as long as Amazon does not interfiere and push gender or race politics on to the show.

Yes!! I’m so excited. I haven’t commented in a long time (years, yikes!) – I actually never watched the final episode of SGU bc it made me too sad to never have a new episode to watch. But once we get a premiere date, I’m gonna binge watch them all again… and finally watch the last SGU epsiode. ❤️

Finally. It sounds like the show will be satisfying for all the same reasons as we loved the first three shows. The fact that Martin, who is very talented and capable in his own right, has invited you and Brad to be involved adds so much to our trust level.
It would be nice to see Teal’c (leading the free Jaffa) and General Carter (overseeing the SGC), as well as Daniel (lead consulting archaeologist and off world diplomatic ambassador) on a regular basis. However, it has been a long time since the shows ended and utilizing all new SG teams makes sense. Some of the old leads from all three of the shows (Daniel, McKay, etc.) could make consulting appearances to get the show off the ground, but other than Teal’c and Carter, I’m ready for a new group of actors. We grew to love SGA and SGU, so I am sure that open minded viewers will love this next installment in the franchise, too

It will be fascinating to see how earth has developed (or not developed) its space fleet over the last 15 years since we last had a Stargate chapter. So many directions things could have gone.
Maybe we will learn how they deal with Atlantis having been on earth, or that they managed to get back to Pegasus like in the initial plans of season 6/Atlanits movie. Perhaps we can find out the fate of Destiny’s crew at some point. While these things wouldn’t be strictly needed, some callbacks to the long time fanbase would be appreciated to tie up a few loose ends.

honestly, if somebody had asked me: “do you want another Stargate show?”, with modern TV being what it is, i would have said “no”. but with Mallozzi, Gero and Wright as show runners, and an optimistc show, it’s hard not to get a little excited 🙂

I totally missed this post, AUGH. When I saw today’s post, I cautiously & questioningly “squee’d”. Then I hit the back arrow & read this post. And I outright squealed a little too loudly for my poor husband.
