Sorry that I have been absent – again. My life is…weird. I just get started doing something and someone needs my help. Sometimes it’s mom, sometimes David, sometimes one of the cats, sometimes the phone rings. Over the past month I’ve had little brain time to myself.
One big thing I’m dealing with is mom’s speed, or lack thereof. Her cognition, coordination, and eyesight are all playing a part. What used to take just a few minutes can take a half hour, or more. Usually more. And there’s more cleaning up after meals because of it, and I’m seeing more confusion, too. It’s so sad.
How is your mom faring? And you and Andria (how was, or is, her little trip?)? Caregiving takes a toll, and wine can only do so much (one needs chocolate, too!).
Take care of yourself, Joey. We’re not getting any younger, ya know.

Lot of back and forth to Montreal. My mother is in a very similar place as your mom.
What Das said – remember to take care of yourself too. That’s important for what can seem like a marathon. Speaking from experience, this can be a trying and exhausting time, but in retrospect I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’d give anything just for one more day to sit in a hospital room chatting with my Dad. Looking back it was a special, maybe even sacred, time.
Not related to any of these covers, and probably because I was listening to the recording of your ST and Travelers Spaces last night before going to bed, I had a funny dream last night featuring you! You were having a big party at your very large multi-story apartment. Tons of people there with many snacks and treats. The thing was a certain percentage of the treats were actually made of soap, so people who got one of those either had to eat it, or make a scene about the fact that some of the treats were, in fact, soap. Diabolical! I hid mine between the couch cushions so you may want to check for that. Also, you had an enormous collection of travel videos on VHS for some reason.
Then, you were showing me you had a whole room dedicated to your fossil collection and were particularly proud of a small turtle like one that you said was a sarchosuchus. I didn’t have the heart to tell you that actually meant “crocodile-like” and was a totally different animal, but then we were distracted by your collection of live spiders in the same room. One was particular fast, furry, and long legged. I was very dismayed at the bar spacing of the cage it was in because if it wanted it could just walk out.
Anyway, stop feeding people soap! LOL
You’ve given me a brilliant idea for my next dinner party.
