August 31, 2017: Touchdown Toronto!

Well, I’m back in Toronto.  Now what?

Our departure from Vancouver was bittersweet but otherwise uneventful.  We woke up at 4:15 a.m., did one final sweep of the house, left a note for the new owners along with a nice box of chocolates, then caught a cab and the 7:25 a.m. flight out of town.  Suji and Lulu were exceptionally well-behaved, barely making a peep as they snoozed away the 5 hours in their sherpa carriers  tucked under the seats in front of us.  Akemi ate the sliced fruit off my plate and ended up feeling sick the rest of the day.

So I’m thinking of making a pdf of that military SF pilot I wrote a few months back and making it available for you to read on the blog.  It’s a ship-based scifi series and those are becoming increasingly harder sells nowadays it would seem, but I’d love to give you all an early glimpse, get your thoughts.

Well, between the early wake up, the cross-country flight, the time change, and dealing with the typical biz bullshit, I am exhausted.  Also –

Let’s end this blog entry on a positive note –

  1. Glad to hear that everyone made out okay on the trip, but I do hope that Akemi is feeling better. I hope everyone gets settled in quickly – remember to take some time just for yourselves for a bit. This is a big change after so many years in Vancouver, and you need to take care of yourselves.

I’d love to see that SF pilot!

Take care and get some rest!

  2. Tomorrow? Tomorrow? SyFy! We’d love ya, tomorrow, if you renew Dark Matter. It’s only A. Day. A. Wayyyyy!

There’s Hope! Did a quick search on Deadline(dot)com, and historically, Dark Matter has been renewed on Sept. 1st!

    For Season 2, renewed Sept. 1, 2015
    For Season 3, renewed Sept. 1, 2016

    Could it be???

    For Season 4, renewed Sept. 1, 2017?????

  3. Tam Dixon, am so sorry for the loss of your niece’s children, and the others who lost their lives. 🙁 Praying for healing, and the discovery of the driver responsible. Also for the loss of Dr. Jo. She, too, was family to you guys. Any word on adoption of her kitty babies?

PBMom, glad you are at home! Still praying for the family and the city. #HoustonStrong

Here at home, this summer we’ve lost a young cousin to a highway accident, also a former co-worker, and then an old friend. This week my uncle Dave, who has late-stage esophageal cancer, had a stent surgery for his esophagus so he can swallow food. He’s in pain, having trouble getting food down, and still in the hospital. He didn’t feel up to having my dad, his own brother, come visit. Apologies to everyone for lurking, but have been watching Dark Matter, and posting a finale reminder. 🙂 Hoping for the very best! A renewal!

Welcome to your temporary home, Joe and Akemi! Loved seeing a relaxed Suji get a soothing shower. That will put a tired body to sleep. Are you guys in the same condo/building that you’ve called home in Toronto? That was a nice touch, leaving a note with chocolates for the new owner of your house in Vancouver. 🙂

    1. Thank you. I was told I’m feeling survivor guilt over my tears that we were spared when so many weren’t.

  4. Glad your flight went well and Suji is all clean again. Hope Akemi is better. She’s got a lot of unpacking to do. Does Lulu’s boyfriend Ivon live in Toronto?

  5. I hear Vancouver is amazing, but East Coast is the best! Glad that you made it safe. Is it common to leave gifts for new owners? That’s a tradition I haven’t heard of, and it sounds so classy. Happy days to you and Akemi in Toronto. Hopefully, your spirits will be raised with the good news from SyFy this week.

  6. Glad to hear you reached Toronto safely without too terribly much going wrong other than Akemi’s tummy ache.
While we all wait for hopefully good news from SyFy
    here’s a short vid distraction (6 minutes)
to help get everyone in the mood for the coming sequel
    to Blade Runner.

  7. I’m glad everyone made it safely to Toronto.
I’d love to read that pilot!
Suji LOVES herself some shower. That’s too stinkin’ cute!
I’m fresh out of fucks myself, or I would certainly let you have one.

  8. Wow about the fruit! I hope Akemi feels better soon. You’d think healthy foods would be the safest but my hubby got food poison from a salad once.

mannas7mom: Thank you! It’s been a crazy few weeks alright. As for Dr Jo’s babies, no home yet. I wondered why she didn’t arrange something for them before she passed and then I found out that she did! One of her sister’s agreed to take the cats and then backed out after the funeral. Three sisters and one brother, and not one of them is stepping up for these cats. 🙁
Anyway, Dr Jo’s dear friend, Ann said she might take the cats. I do want to sing Ann’s praises. Although, Ann was a friend of a friend, she only met Dr Jo after the cancer diagnosis. Ann retired from her job (she has a master’s in computer science and worked for an oil company) and moved in with Dr Jo. She was a life saver and kept Dr Jo from going into a home/hospital for the last few months. (Ann lives outside of Houston and so far, her house is safe.) Just take a moment and think about what kind of person gives up their home, family and job for a new friend? Amazing!

Mr. M., whenever you feel overwhelmed, just keep in mind what those folks in Houston are going through. Disasters like my niece’s family and all those people that lost everything in Houston, puts everything in perspective. We are so lucky. We are blessed.

Speaking of blessed, I’m expecting to hear renewal news about S4 this weekend “fingers crossed”!

I’d love to read about your new series too! I’ve been listening to Jack Campbell’s (John G. Hemry) series of “The Lost Fleet”. Mr. Hemry’s explanation of time and space (such as the fact that battles weren’t real time if the ships were light years away) are fascinating! I’ve never seen that in television or books but it makes so much sense. By the time you’ve seen the ship explode, you realize it exploded 15 minutes ago. That would be a frustrating battle and difficult to get the timing right for strategy. Anywoo…

Sorry to be so long winded and I hope y’all have a great, restful day!

    1. I’m just seeing this Tammy. I’m so sorry about Dr. Jo. Hopefully in her final days she was surrounded by people who loved her and she felt no pain. I’ll keep reading backwards. I hope Ann’s house fared okay; for what she did for Dr. Jo that should be a given thing.. That’s terrible about Jo’s family. That is why I’m leaving Boomer or any other dog I get to my vet. He’ll find a good home for the dog. It’s already in my will. I feel pretty guilty saying that we didn’t flood. I know there are others who did not flood but since we are in a minority, I don’t want to rub it in.

  9. Glad to hear your trip went well, especially with two dogs. Sorry to hear that about your pilot. I had to do a double take at first reading it to get the right meaning. The picture of Suji with her tongue out reminded me of Bill the Cat. Best wishes and hears to a successful rep – not like SGU. I hope to read your new pilot as it can only help me.

  10. Guess this means you have nothing to do with Stargate Origins? Sorry it must have been asked 10000 times already. I still don’t know if its a game or a series or what?

  11. Glad you arrived safely. Looks like Suji travels well. Every girl needs a pink blankie! Lots of exciting times ahead. New place. (Semi) new town. New & old restaurants to explore. Old friends to hook up with and new friends to make.

Would love to read your SciFi Military pilot. Strange that “ship” related series aren’t fairing well. What’s space & SF without its cool ships? You have to be able to get from here to there & what’s more stylin than a spaceship? What would Star Wars be without the Millennium Falcon? An x-wing fighter? Boba’s Slave I? Not to mention the Enterprise. Even Space: Above & Beyond had cool ships. Are they wanting more of a “port” based military drama in the likes of Babylon 5 and Star Trek: DS9? Crazy I say, crazy! Space needs spaceships. There are just too many planets to explore.
