So, what’d you all think of Dark Matter Episode 106?  All the pieces are coming together, right?

Well, more answers coming your way next week.  But first, there’s that #Periscope #AskJoeDM event planned for this Monday on the heels of the U.K. and German airing of episode 6.  I’ll be online, live (?!), answering viewer questions from 9 p.m. UK/German time, 4 p.m. EST, 1 p.m. PST.  Swing on by!

Today,  I took a break from the Dark Matter drama (after reviewing the first four outlines for season 2) and headed over to the UBC campus to check out AnimeEvolution.  Akemi and I met up with Jodelle (the star of last night’s episode) and Matt for an afternoon of costumed mayhem, anime swag, and a weird pistachio-avocado shake.  After Comic Con, we figured the cosplay would pale in comparison – but we were mightily impressed with some of the outfits.

Thanks to longtime blog regular and AnimeEvolution guest relation maestro Shane Cossever for the invite.  We had a blast!

    Loved episode. Jodelle hit it out of the park. Love Roger. Of course I am a huge Hewlett fan so I loved his scenes. I am getting used to the Android voice, but what is up with her hair? Weird. Couldn’t you find a hat to.put on her? Lol

    That style of sword that FOUR’s trainer hit him with doesn’t actually hurt. It’s the darnedest thing. There are multiple pieces tied together and the interfaces dissipate the hit when they rub together.

    I used to swing those at kids’ shins to get them to jump to avoid it so they’d get some height into their aerial roll falls. I’d demonstrate on my own shin first so they wouldn’t be too scared to run at the mat.

    Digging the Commander Rogers and Sucker Punch cosplay. Also, Jodelle is just too cute for words.

    Loved last night’s ep. Can’t get over a few things, like the hilariously awkward ~complications discussion between One and Two (but Three and Two, I still enjoy), the back story of Four (and how suddenly he seems to be hatching plans), poor Six, and Jodelle’s fabulous acting.

    Jodelle was amazing! That girl can act. 🙂 Roger was great too. Really good actor. He seems so darned cuddly…in a rib-cracking way. ;-p

    I’ll probably have more to say when I watch it again tomorrow. Oh, I keep forgetting to mention David. It’s wonderful to see him onscreen again. Smarmy! Taybor, not David. Although… 😉

    It looks like a good time was had by all, but conspicuously absent are any pictures of *you* Joe, in your own cosplay outfit! 🙂

    Although not strictly anime, I would totally go as Johnny Sokko (and his flying Robot!) That’s some krazy kaiju action, right there! I loved that show as a kid.

    I’m off to New Hampshire this morning for a (hopefully) nice week of camping and hiking. I hope the weather improves some, the forecast is for large thunderstorms tonight there. Fun!

    Loved Jodelle’s acting, she’s such a gem! And the Six/Five relationship is wonderful! I’m so curious about the farm boy though. It would be so neat if that was Three (I have a soft spot for him, can you tell).
    Such a wonderful episode, I loved all the background stories. And Four is a wonderful character as well. I’m so sad that we only have a few episodes left.

    I hope we’re done with the clichéd One-Two-Three triangle, to be honest. It’s too early for that, I’m just beginning to get a feel for the characters and it’s so tough for me to care about who sleeps with whom. It seems so random. Except you’re doing it on purpose to trip us up and there will be a super clever reveal later, then I don’t mind ;).

    Looks like fun!
    The inspired woman is I think, a Night Sister from Star Wars. (Powerful force sensitive witch).
    The white masked actor is Darth Nihilus.
    Both from the Star Wars expanded universe.
    The Sub Zero costume is crazy!

    And again, episode 6 was awesome!

    Ummmm, the shinai practice sword – yes is bounded bamboo. And, yes not quite as hurtful as a regular solid wood bokken. However, if struck with enough force, can hurt. I accumulated a few bruises. Another reason I have my Salonpas spray.

    Please ask Jodelle where she gets the beautiful ear metal art. Your photo of her with Hello Kitty shows a different style than what she has worn on air. I’d like to purchase one like it.

    I’m about 99.9 percent certain that’s Love Live! cosplay. If you ever see groups with samey type outfits like this, you can be sure it’s from a popular idol anime like this series or Idolmaster lol.

    I believe that the warrior girl with the Red, Orange, Yellow horns is Pisces from Homestuck. There about 20 or so people who where cosplaying the Zodiac’s at the Sacramento Wizard-Con. I had never heard of it before, My friend and I finally found an artist booth that had a drawing and we asked her who they were. Per the internet, it is a webcomic written, illustrated and animated by Andrew Hussie, The series centers on a group of teenagers who unwittingly bring about the beginning of the end of the world through the installation of a beta copy of an upcoming computer game.

    I am interested to see what you think of The Fall.

    Loved this episode. Now I need to watch last Friday’s and I’ll be caught up for 7/31 WHICH I HAVE ZERO CLIENTS THE WHOLE DAY. Just Patrick. And with the shape I am currently in, that is as much as I can handle.
