July 9, 2015: San Diego Comic Con! The Dark Matter panel! That Dr. Who/Dark Matter dinner crossover you’ve been asking for!

The panel was A LOT of fun. Great turnout and some terrific questions. I was actually sad to see it end.
From there, we headed for a cast dinner at Nobu where, it turns out, we were seated right behind the gang from Dr. Who, enjoying their own cast dinner. Bigtime Whovian Jodelle Ferland got to meet The Doctor, Peter Capaldi, who couldn’t have been nicer, even taking the time to sign her TARDIS backpack.
Jodelle in super-happy mode.
And I got a chance to exchange hello’s with the brilliant Steven Moffat – jet-lagged, post double-panel (Dr. Who and Sherlock), but every so gracious.
And that was that. Tomorrow, I think Akemi and I are going to try to squeeze in a couple’s massage before lunch, then it’s more press, another autograph signing, more press, a final cast dinner, and parties. I’m going to try to squeeze in some t-shirt purchases to boot!
“Not sure but – perhaps unintentionally – creepy.” – That is a Creeper and two Villagers from Minecraft.
“No idea. Anyone?” – One of them is T.A.R.S., one of the robots from Interstellar. Dunno about the rest.

Doctor Who and Dark Matter in the same room? Talk about geekgasm! Did you score yourself a guest writing spot on Doctor Who? That would be AMAZING!!!!!
The panel was a blast–such a pleasure to have you, Jay, Vanessa, Melissa, Anthony, Jodelle, and Roger at Comic-Con. It’s great to have such a talented, thoughtful, articulate, and enthusiastic group here to visit with us fans. 🙂 Great to say hi to you last night at the panel. Scheduling’s a mess, but I’ll try to stop by the Dark Horse booth today. Hope all of you are enjoying your stay! Thanks for coming!
Great pictures! And it looks like the attendance was really impressive, too. That’s a good sign, I think. And it’s so cool you got to meet all those folks. I mean sure Peter Capaldi sounds cool and all that, but TOM GARDINER! 🙂
I have to take today off to take Bart to the vet. I hope everything will be okay. She’s about the same this morning.
How wonderful! A fun time on the panel! I’m so glad you enjoyed it and hope to find a video link from some kind soul who may have filmed it. Yay Dark Matter!
Those are some interesting costumes, very imaginative, despite my unfamiliarity with some of the captions. Amazing stuff! Enjoy the Con!
Speaking of Stargate…we just finished watching Big Hero 6 and were surprised to see what suspiciously looked like stargates in the movie. Huh? Glad to see you are having a good time and thanks for sharing!
“Not sure but – perhaps unintentionally – creepy.” No, intentionally. The green one is a creeper (actual name) from Minecraft. The others are villagers. Minecraft is HUGE among kids and has other-age followings as well.
My oldest learned to count to 64 playing Minecraft. Before that, his only interest in numbers was to be able to push the washer button 5 times to get cold water, then he’d refuse to listen to anything related to numbers.
It’s a game that has long-term playability so the fan base is both large and enduring.
Love the pictures, looks like you two are having a great time. And getting to sit by the Dr. Who gang, That is just freaking awesome. Jodelle got her TARDIS signed by the doctor! Brilliant. Thanks for still doing the blog even when you are very busy.
While you’re here enjoying our non-traditional foggy July weather (must be that all the Dr. Who people brought it with them from England) you might want to swing by the Qual Com Stadium and say good-bye to the Chargers (I know you like fantasy football). Apparently San Diego prefers Comic Con to the Chargers! Smart town.
@Tam Dixon: Bart is about the same. The vet did x-rays and found that the problem is not egg related, nor does there appear to be a mass of any size that is causing it. So, it is either an infection (for which I have antibiotics for her) or something more serious with internal organs. If it’s the latter, there is little hope. Even the infection is pretty serious at this stage, since birds hide their illnesses until they’re pretty bad.
I’ve already given her the first dose of antibiotics, which made her mad at me for a little while. I do hope it starts to work soon.
Great pictures! It’s almost like being there! Looks like you and Akemi are having a blast. Thank you for sharing your interesting day. Hope everyone there gathers around a big screen and watches Dark Matter tonight.
@ gforce – Hope Bart gets better soon.
@ JeffW – Do you ever stop moving? You are always on the go!
“No idea. Anyone?” – That is the team from SourceFedNERD. They had a cosplay challenge where they had to draw a bad character out of a hat. The beautiful and die hard Star Wars fan Maude Garret got Jar Jar Binks. https://twitter.com/maudegarrett
@Gforce Sorry to hear about Bart. Sending prayers for healing.
The day looks like so much fun. 800 people is pretty awesome. Isn’t The Cheesecake Factory awesome. I have so many favorites there. I would like to eventually try them all but since I only go there once or twice a year, it will take me many years to accomplish that. Their pumpkin cheesecake in the fall is pretty amazing.
Argh, I’ve been trying to find a good cheesecake to buy for a while now, but the stores don’t seem to have anything good on sale… Also, yay for Pokémon cosplay. 😀
oh..right…It’s SHARK-WEEK, isn’t it..? – Don’t go to the Beach. #justsaying
nuts! You got to meet Peter? – I’m so not a “WHO”ser, but loved him in “THE MUSKETEERS”!
“Not sure but – perhaps unintentionally – creepy.” – That is a Creeper and two Villagers from Minecraft.
“No idea. Anyone?” – One of them is T.A.R.S., one of the robots from Interstellar. Dunno about the rest.

TARS is from Intersteller. The guy in green is Kermit the Frog. Not sure about the other two.
Looks like It was a ton of fun. Total envy about meeting the Dr Who cast.

Thanks for the pictures. I’m exhausted just looking at them. There are some pretty amazing costumes there.
Have fun today!
Sounds like you’re all having a blast. Some year I’ll make it there.
The “unintentionally creepy” cosplayers are from Minecraft.

Steven Moffet? Very cool! Getting your name out there. 🙂 My son says that picture of TARS was the robot from Interstellar. I should have known that!
Love, Love, Love the pictures and Thanks!!!!
gforce: How is Bart?
I hope your trip keeps being fun!
@Not sure but – perhaps unintentionally – creepy.
That’s Minecraft cosplay lol.
Hmm. Aquaman.

Did you end up needing those ear plugs?
I think the hamburger guy may be Mayor McCheese from McDonald’s 1970’s commercials (with the McDonald’s logos removed for copyright issues?)

Any Hamburglars at the show?
And I think the lady in between Mayor McCheese and T.A.R.S. might be Jar Jar from Star Wars? Just a guess…

Have you seen the Live+3 ratings for Episode 4 of Dark Matter Joe? It got 1.91 million viewers and a 0.5 in the 18-49 demographic. Pretty incredible.
