It feels like mere weeks ago I was planning our trip to Toronto to work start work on Dark Matter.  I’d been developing the series for so long, impatiently awaiting its green light, that when we finally received word we had a go, I couldn’t quite believe it.  And back in the summer of 2014 when we were gearing up to assemble the season one writer’s room (all three of us!), production felt like such a long way off.  Even in December, after the construction had commenced on our standing sets and we had 10 of our 13 episodes scripted, it still felt distantly surreal.  And now…

We’re locking Dark Matter episodes #101 and #102 (directed by T.J. Scott) and I’m editing episode #103 (directed by Paolo Barzman).  The editors are working on their assembly of episode #104, directed by Amanda Tapping.  Director Lee Rose is presently shooting episode #105 and I’m in prep on episode #106 with director Ron Murphy.  We’re almost at the halfway mark!  Holy crap!  Never mind the season finale.  I’ve got to start thinking about season two!

Episode #112 came out today and, hopefully, that will tide the cast and crew over until I’ve had a chance to write #113, the shocking season finale.  I’m seven pages in.  At this rate, I should be done by the time it comes time to shoot it in May.

February 23, 2015: Production Madness!

Last night, I took a break from the madness for our weekly Walking Dead Night attended by VFX Supervisor Lawren Bancroft-Wilson, Akemi, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and yours truly.  Our new consulting producer (who arrives on Wednesday) enjoys the show as well and will no doubt be joining us for next week’s instalment.

Meanwhile, thousands of light years away, the final stragglers (Kyle, Alison, and Trevor) await the transport vessel that will ferry them from Shaofu 2 back to Earth.

Sock of the Day!  Sock of the Day!

February 23, 2015: Production Madness!

What official announcement?  Oh, THAT official announcement.  Apparently, it had to run through one more proper channel and then all should be good to go.

Oh, and regarding my hint of last week – his CHARACTER (singular) has appeared in all three Stargate shows – narrows it down to only four possibilities I can think of.

  1. @his CHARACTER (singular) has appeared in all three Stargate shows

Which rules out Mike Dopud right there sadly..

    So we’re down to

    Michael Shanks
    David Hewlett
    Richard Dean Anderson
    Robert Picardo

It’s gotta be someone notable right? 🙂

    1. According to IMDB, Mike Dopud has been on all 3. But I don’t think RDA was on SGU.

  2. Wow, what a difference in scheduling from the LAST series you shot in Toronto! This really IS smoooooth sailing!

  3. There was another series that Joe shot in Toronto? I have no memory of such a thing. 🙂

It’s been a long road, getting from there to here. It’s been a long time, but the time is finally here. You’re seeing your dream come alive, at last!

Oh wait, wrong show. Still works, though. 🙂

  4. LOL @ gforce. I loved that theme.

Joe, I think you mentioned wanting Robert Picardo way back when, so I’m putting my money on him. All of it. There’s my nickle on the table. Who will match my bet?

  5. I keep thinking about who you have had dinner with when Dark Matter was on the horizon. I always thought you were scouting potential stars or guest stars or positions within the organization. For that matter, I now think it is Robert Picardo. And Ivon is on his way!

  6. Hi Joe

@everyone Gary Jones (Walter) was in all three, as was Bill Dow (Dr. Lee), Richard Anderson, Michael Shanks, Robert Picardo and David Hewlett. So was Samatha Tapping, but she doesn’t count for this.

I’m thinking it’s probably Michael or David as they are in Toronto, but Robert would be nice, too.

    Elminster

  7. It should be fun who ever the surprise guest is. I am still going with M. Shanks. I don’t know but I am thinking I am not liking that Kyle guy.
Joe, does the group take bets on which character bites it?

  8. Michael Shanks
    David Hewlett
    Richard Dean Anderson
    Robert Picardo
    Amanda Tapping
    Bill Dow
    Martin Christopher

They all appaered in SG-1, SGA and SGU and only played one character throughout these shows.

Personally, I would go with David Hewlett as he said on his YouTube that he wants to get back into acting and is doing some auditions!

  9. aarrgghh….the PAIN…and torture.
ok will sit quietly and wait for announcement.

  10. Now I think it could be Robert Picardo, which would be terrific, but still holding out that it’s David Hewlett. Or RDA and, since, he’s been kinda scarce on the acting scene in recent years, it would be fantastic if it’s him.

  11. Has to be Hewlett? Or the beautiful Lou Diamond Phillips? Walking Dead is officially the scariest thing I’ve ever seen, scarier than the Exorcist and Alien.

  12. According to IMBD, Ivon was on all three shows AND he’s going to Toronto.. Hmmm.

  13. @TamDixon But was he the same character? His acting credits on IMDB only list SG-1

As far as who it is, I would be happy with any of those remaining names, but I do like this guessing game.

  14. I’love it to be Michael Shanks, but he’s busy with Saving Hope so I don’t think it’s him. I think it’s Robert Picardo.
