While we wait for the official press release on our recent casting coup (any day now!), how about a little hint in the from of a character breakdown for the latest addition to the Dark Matter family:

“Slick, silver-tongued, and more than a little seedy, Tabor Calchek is the crew’s “handler” and the ultimate agent. For the standard 10% commission, he uses his underworld connections as a broker to secure his clients their lucrative assignments. Tabor is sly, manipulative and opportunistic, and can always be counted on to look out for his client’s best interests…right after his own.”

So, guesses?  Who do you think would be perfect for the role?

Hey, it was Cat Shirt Thursday today on Shaofu 2!

  1. Mark Sheppard is a great guess. I’m wondering if Connor Trinnear could be the one, too. He played a wonderfully wicked Michael. Although I could see Peter Kelamis or Patrick Gilmore in that role, too.

  2. I would have guessed Claudia Black (definitely a Vala character), but you said “he”….

  3. Yeesh. That description could be handled by pretty much any of the actors on SG! (They’re that good.)

You know that cat with the laser eyes? If the lasers were directed inward, that’s how MY eyes feel when I’m around cats! I do love the burrito one, though. Totally my humour.

I posted this on FB giving some funny (?) scenes around the Maritimes of the snow amounts.

  4. No, I need a Cosmic Tonic t-shirt. I would be the best nerd ever and it wouldn’t make children cry.

Tabor is a play on Borat. That guy’s going to screw you guys over. He’ll just not show up on a day he needs to film a final, crucial scene. All your Shaofu 2 signs will be missing and he’ll frame your staff’s elderly relatives for the vandalism.

  5. Cat shirts!!!! As a dedicated cat mama, all I can say is, “I want one just like Amanda’s!”

All were precious, especially the ones with glasses (as I’m a bifocal gal myself), but I really like “Turnt down, for what?”

And maybe Michael Shanks is the guest casting surprise? Hm-m-m-?

    2cats =^-^= =^-^=

  6. Hi Joe

I’d guess the guy who played Ba’al, Cliff Simon!! He’d be perfect for that part.

    Elminster

  7. I’m thinking Mike Dopud would be the logical fit here. He managed to pull of that balance of moral ambiguity with likeability in Stargate Universe.

But if you’re looking for more on the slimy side, then I suggest that Cliff Simon would be a likely fit. He was certainly the most suave villain any of the Stargate series had.

So I guess we’re just waiting on the network “all-clear” to find out who’s right?

  8. I agree with Brent. Totally sounds like Vala, but you said the role is male. Hmm How about Wallace Shawn? You didn’t say if the actor has worked in Stargate or not…

  9. G’day

Would absolutely love to Richard Dean Anderson.
But sounds more like David Hewlett.

  10. That description made me think of a Wraith, so I’ll say Chris Heyerdahl. But maybe it’s that sleezy ponytail guy Peter Kavanagh, played by Ben Cotton.

  11. @glowyzoey
@You didn’t say if the actor has worked in Stargate or not…

Joe mentioned on his entry yesterday that he hadn’t worked with this mystery person in years. And if we look back years, we have SGU, SGA, and SG1 🙂

  12. I love the addition of an agent. Of course the crew will need someone with connections to line up jobs!

Robert Carlyle would be an excellent choice.
Mark Sheppard is the quintessential silver-tongued devil, though he is not a Star Gate alum (is he?).
    Cliff Simon could do it.
David Hewlett – maybe. He’s a good actor and could probably pull it off.

  13. Nice cat shirts. I was so distracted by the casting hint that I forgot to mention it.
And Robert Picardo would also be a good choice. But I guess we have to wait and see.

  14. Mark Sheppard plays that kind of character all the time (love his voice) but all the above actors suggested would rock the role! When will the news be released?

Das: I’ve been enjoying the Grantchester series and Elementary has been rocking lately. Do you watch Perceptions? I started watching that and love it too. Any other suggestions?

Another storm moving through but I think it will be the last one before spring. My buttercups are blooming, or were. I picked a few before the ice storm and hope they rest survived. How’s the weather there? How do the dogs handle the cold weather?

  15. Bon, je change de candidat:
    David Hewlet
    ou
    Cliff Simon
    ou
    Mike Dopud
    peu probable
    Ben Browder.

Évidemment si cela avait une “elle” j’aurais dit Claudia Black…snif !

  16. @Randomness I should come around here more often, so I’d know these things. Thanks for telling me that. 🙂 In that case I don’t care who it is, as long as it’s David Hewlett. Or it’s David Hewlett in any guest or recurring role. Yes, that’s actually my guess from yesterday. David Hewlett. 😉

  17. @ Tam Dixon – Haven’t heard of Perceptions. I think you may like the Australian produced Doctor Blake Mysteries (I’m getting them on PBS atm, just not sure when and where they air – you may be able to catch them on-line, not sure). My in-laws love Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries – also on PBS, but again not sure where or when. And if you’re just looking for something fun give Murdoch Mysteries (Artful Detective in US) a try. It took me a few episodes to get used to the dialogue and acting, but once I got into the show’s rhythm I was totally hooked! It’s really hard to find short clips of the show on youtube (they’re either full eps, interviews, or music vids), but here’s one I found – the very last clip is a riot (esp. for anyone who’s played street hockey, which I have):

However, this is the stuff that sold me on the show:

  18. Wow — that is one exceptionally intimidating Aquaman! Certainly a far cry from “Man from Atlantis” softy, Patrick Duffy.

Jason, you look wonderful… and scary. So, use creme rinse on that beard and hair while swimming the oceans blue?

    2cats
P.S. I also vote for David Hewlett, although I wouldn’t mind Shanks in that role either.

  19. Jason’s looking mighty fine! Joe you’ve got to get him for one episode of Dark Matter. Maybe when he is not shooting Aquaman. What a hunk!

  20. Also, I was trying to decide if those cat t-shirt wearers looked like the cat they were wearing. I decided 90% of them do. 🙂

  21. Cliff Simon or and this would be genuine cast coup Robert Carlyle. Getting a big name into a minor role would be good for the show. Someone like Kiefer Sutherland would be brilliant.
