January 22, 2015: Director Paolo Barzman Preps! The Production Shifts To Waterloo! And I Eat Doughnuts!
Director Paolo Barzman settles in.

Day #2 of prep on episode #103 with director Paolo Barzman who traveled all the way from Hong Kong to work on Dark Matter!  I’d been hearing great things about the man for weeks and, after meeting I have to say – they weren’t wrong. He’s a foodie, a fearless eater, a chocolate aficionado – oh, and also a very smart guy with some great ideas for our next episode.  Today, we convened downstairs for the Art Department meeting for some heavy set construction and green screen discussions, then walked over to wardrobe for the Costumes meeting.  We talked about the script, watched some dailies and, of course, ate some doughnuts from this place: http://www.gloryholedoughnuts.com

Nat Cooper swung by my office after lunch to “Oh, by the way” show me a photo of their doughnut selection.  She wasn’t suggesting we get doughnuts of course.  She just wanted to show me.  Just in case.

I sent her and Alison out for two dozen.

Main unit production, meanwhile, shifted from the chilly environs of Hamilton for the relatively warmer interiors of Waterloo today.  It was goodbye to the dust and steel and post-apocalyptic looking vehicles…

On loan from The Walking Dead?

And hello to pipes and steel and post-apocalpytic interiors.

The screen grab of the day:

  1. Those doughnuts looks fantastic. Their “Buche De Noel” especially.

Speaking of the ribs, how are they doing lately?

    Love those socks!

  2. I really wish I had a job where I could wear cool socks every day! I don’t think they would understand at my bank.

  3. You want doughnuts…OMG you need to have debrodniks donuts when you are here tomorrow! They are AMAZING best I have ever tasted.

See told you it was warmer her than Hamilton 🙂

I live here and I can’t seem to decide where in KW that pic is from….

  4. Awesome socks Natalie; purple with Shakespeare? 😀

    Hope Lulu is mending well.

Hope the ribs are getting better.

Hope Akemi,Jelly and Bubba are happy.

    Hi Pablo.

  5. I think we should send Natalie some socks from all over the place. 🙂 I will see what I have at our stores when I can actually go shopping at our stores. I’m getting really irritated with my stupid knee that is taking forever to get better. I have things to do. I have places to go. Right now, my PT hasn’t cleared me to even drive to Patrick’s school and back (80 minutes round-trip). I can’t imagine where I would be at this point if I hadn’t done pre-hab. The woman next to me had a knee replacement at the same time I had my surgery and she is doing better than me and is older than me. And her scar has healed and my little cuts have not. I really hate not being able to take anti-inflammatories. It has slowed this entire process way, way down.

Those donuts look divine. I’m glad that shop isn’t local around here. I would be in serious trouble.

How long does Lulu have to wear the cone of shame?

    Welcome to Paolo!

  6. Hello to Mr. Barzman. Joe why do you use so many different directors? You are not concerned the style of the show could change too? Is this common practice for everyone? How many directors will you have for 13 episodes?

Good looking donuts. I see they threw in one more to grow on. But you won’t grow too big cause it’s a tiny one.

That vehicle looks Mad Max-ish. And the screen grab of the day…wait just a dog gone minute! Are you blurring those shots too? That is not nice.

@ Sylvia – Can you confirm the mailing address you used for Joe?

  7. Better hit the donuts and the caffeine today! Safe driving tonight too!

Das: You ok? I don’t think you’ve posted in a couple of days. Catching up?

Can you believe all the ruckus over underinflated balls? If that doesn’t draw out Das, nothing will! 😉

  8. I don’t envy you guys filming in those bitter cold conditions until you flash those donuts, then I’m quite jealous.
I rewatched Sixteen Candles this weekend, I’m amazed at how risque it was compared to todays teen flicks. Jake Ryan remains the dreamiest boy ever, vampires be damned.
