November 18, 2014: Notes! Notes! And Notes!
Executive Producer Jay Firestone has had it up to HERE with us.

Today, Paul and I sat down with fellow Dark Matter Executive Producer (and President of Prodigy Pictures) Jay Firestone for a marathon notes session.  Well, it was only three scripts, so not so much a marathon as it was, say, a 5k sustained jog through episodes #101 through #103.  And, I’m pleased to report, a good time was had by all.  Oh, sure, there were a few disagreements.  A couple of impassioned arguments.  And, at one point, (apparently) I almost jumped out of my seat.  But, in the end, it was a productive meeting and I have no doubt that all three scripts will be the better for it.  Jay flagged some murky moments in need of clarification, had some great suggestions related to character motivations, relationships, and arcs, and even offered up some pretty good dialogue tweaks.  No absurd requests or annoyingly illogical proposals or demands for reams of exposition to ensure that even a trained chimp can follow the story.

If all of our future notes sessions go this smoothly, I may actually look forward to attending them – instead of hiding under my desk and hoping people will simply lose interest and move on to more pressing matters.

Tomorrow = round #2 (eposes #104 to #106)!

  1. Sounds like a good day. Did you get Jay’s permission before taking his picture? Doesn’t look like it. Maybe he could give us a tour of his window sill some day. It looks very interesting back there.

  2. It’s a pleasure to see that you are finally in your golden element again… I’m loving your posts and loving to see how this show is being squeezed out through it’s growing pains.

    I’ve been watching reruns of SG1 and am still blown away by the talent on screen and behind the scenes. The show remains special because of the characters and their adventures. So now I’m really looking forward to seeing DARK MATTER and getting to know and love the characters and their adventures.

  3. I bet you took Jay to dinner afterwards, right? Food heals all wounds. 🙂

    JeffW: Sadly, I didn’t know he got his blog up. I heard him arguing with word press (he likes to talk to the computer). I hope you shake off that cold! Safe travels!

  4. Cool, notes session, is that the same as all the pretty colored pages stuff? And what is Jay really thinking, a lot of captions for that picture.
    Glad to hear you are sailing on well. And don’t forget to break for lunch and snacks.
