After the festival, we swung by Nicole and Lan’s place to check out their thriving bee colony.  Sadly, no honey until next summer. 🙁

 Okay.  Back to that script!

  1. BTW, did that green-wich have a “BEST BEFORE” Date around mid-March..? — whatever… BUT, if you happen to notice the TIDY-BOWL-MAN donning a pair of “Shades” after your Late Night *VISIT*, you might want to chow down on some kelp… oh and, stay away from Spandex…

  2. i can’t find anything on chicken karate. did you mean chicken karaage?

and the chocolate-covered matcha (green tea) ice cream pop looks like the dairy queen dilly bar, but probably tastes better than a dilly bar.

  3. Spam sushi! Why didn’t I think of that?

Last weekend, I made a variety of sushi, including scrapple and egg with sriracha. (Center of the large plate) It was pretty awesome. We’ve discussed scrapple on here before. It’s a NJ, PA Dutch thing. You can’t get it anywhere else. You would love it, Joe.

Also included: spicy tuna, smoked salmon with cream cheese, crab, cucumber and avocado. I just ran out of unagi, so that was a no show.

I wish we had food festivals like that around here.

  4. I saw “chicken karate” and thought it meant that it was really hot. 🙂 How do you eat all that food and stay so thin? It sounded like a wonderful day!

Wonderful posts lately. Loved that your cousins’ were so brave to take on that long a motorcycle trip! It sounded fun but I get so tried riding a motorbike longer than an hour. I hope they have a fun and safe trip. (with lots of breaks for their bum)

I thought bee-keepers wore those skin covering outfits and carried around a smoker. Do your friends ever get stung? What kind of flowers do their bees harvest? Honey is quite amazing and I’ve read the taste changes depending on the flowers harvested. Any recipes planned if they gift you with honey? Baklava perhaps?

Strangely I believed when my son went to college and my work closed, I would have plenty of free time. It’s been crazy lately…

Off topic but I was watching Guy Fieri’s show and he had a technique to cook Tandoori Chicken using cast iron pans. Sounds intriguing and I just might take a break from my vegetarian diet to try it out: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/guy-fieri/cast-iron-tandoori-roasted-chicken.html

Hope all goes well today PBmom!

  5. Your are a brave one, You stayed 5 seconds longer than I would have with the bees! But love the honey. Food, ,,yum, fun, and friends, thanks for sharing!!

  6. @JimfromJersey; The sushi looks really good. The salad I’m having for lunch is just not as filling after looking at all that tasty sushi.

At first I thought that honey triange was some delicious new pastry and I was all in. I would have pushed Lan outta the way and taken a big bee stung bite out of that honey comb.

Sad Cosplay Dude, cheer up! Your outfit is kickass! Do like Daniel Radcliffe and get into character: http://sharekoto.com/daniel-radcliffe-goes-undercover-comiccon/

I like that cool design on the Mogu truck. It’s dinolicious.

  7. Sad Cosplay Dude is Joe? Didn’t recognize you at first; you disappear into your character.

  8. Oh JimfromJersey, invite me over for dinner if you make that tandoori chicken! 😉 I might just try making it for myself. I don’t have the elaborate outdoor kitchen Guy has though 🙁 . Guy had a lentil chickpea side dish for that meal that looked good too.

  9. “Poopylicious!”

I truly hope that’s the only item you ever use that term on. Ever.

All your talk of green tea ice cream makes me sad, though. My favorite green tea ice cream no longer exists. It was from my favorite Japanese restaurant in town that has since closed down. They made the ice cream in house. It was so smooth and flavorful….

  10. Re: JimfromJersey’s scrapple comment – they sell scrapple at the Calabria Meat Market on Victoria Drive here! I did wonder about whether it would make some good sushi 🙂 Good call on putting the egg on top!

Tam – our bees just forage from different individual gardens in the neighbourhood, so I guess it would be a variety of wild- (and not-so-wild-)flowers.

  11. @shinyhula – Thanks! The sushi was very tasty, but as you can tell from the overlap, my roll was off. I’m out of practice. =)

@Tam Dixon – I might try the tandoori this weekend. I’ll post pics if I do.

@twinkienic – Well how about that! I had no idea you could get scrapple in Van. My wife once lived in upstate NY and it (and pork roll) was a no show there. I’ve done some extensive US traveling and never found it either. @Joe: now you’ve got to try it.

  12. I agree with most of the bad endings.

The 9th Gate just pissed me off. The film was tortuous, and I was rewarded with…nothing…as an ending.

  13. @TamDixon Thanks. You already know how things went from my FB post. I am supposed to have round 3 on Monday but my hand is too bruised. There is no getting an IV in that no matter how hard they try. Wednesday is the cut off. After Wednesday, it won’t matter which makes no sense to me, but I’m not the doctor. I guess they’ll do labs, see where I am at, and then decide what to do with me from there.
