June 17, 2014: Back On The Mean Streets Of Sesame!Well look who it is.  If it isn’t our old friend Cookie Monster who, only last summer, announced he was through hosting our weekly Supermovie of the Week Club and done penning reviews of such big screen classics as The Dark Knight, Spiderman, and Abar: The First Black Superman.  Well, what a difference a year (most of it spent at the Muppetville Correctional Institute) makes.  Apparently, the terms of his early prison release requires him to hold down a job for the length of his probationary period and, well, it was either resuming his duties as this blog’s resident film critic or becoming an analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the extreme ironing championships.

Yes, it’s a thing.

He chose the former, but not before phoning me (collect!) and begging for his old job back.   As you know, I’m all about second chances – like a second chance at making someone sit through excruciatingly lengthy and lumbering films about guys in tights punching each other’s lights out (Hello, Man of Steel!).  And so, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Cookie Monster back.

Over the next few months, we can all look forward to reviews of Man of Steel, The Wolverine, Kick-Ass 2, Super Buddies, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spiderman 2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Also on his critical horizon: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Don’t you just hate reboots?), Guardians of the Galaxy, and Lucy!

Feel free to check out Cookie Monster’s past movie reviews – all collected on a single site – here:

I’m also thinking of enlisting Cookie to head up a Star Trek TOS re-watch.  Anyone interested?

  1. FINALLY! I’ve been waiting months for this! I mean, your entries are great, but Cookie Monster is in a league of his own. But please please PLEASE add “Doctor Horrible’s Sing Along Blog” to the movie roster. It is definitely worth your time.

  2. Welcome back Cookie!

I’m also thinking of enlisting Cookie to head up a Star Trek TOS re-watch. Anyone interested?

I’m in! And Barb is probably in, but I’ll have to ask her in the morning since she’s asleep now.

Barb is a long time Star Trek TOS fan…which now that I think about it, this could be tarnishing some fond childhood memories for her. Hmmm, maybe I’ll make her breakfast before I break the news 😉

And Extreme Ironing Championships? That’s gonna waste some of my time while I go look that up.

  3. Yeahhhhhhh!!!!
Finally some real entertainment on thi…..well…nevermind.

    (hehe, just kidding)

  4. YAYYY! It has been too long. Audiences were begging — well, asking — well looking — well OK *I* was hoping for a return!

  5. Rewatch STTOS? Not STTNG? omg omg omg yes please please count me in.
I will watch them while wearing my STTOS knee high socks and wrapped up in my science officer-blue snuggie. With a cat. And quoting every line (“PAIN! I FEEL PAIN!!) tee hee

    so excited!
oh I’m with Keith Dr. Horrible’s Sing-s-Long Blog is a must see. Wasn’t there (talk of) a second one? Has anyone see NPH in Hedwig and the Angry Inch?

  6. Woo hoo! Welcome back Cookie!

There’s another movie to add to the list that slipped through the net.

    It’s Paper Man:

I’m definitely up for a ST:TOS watch. Notice I said “watch” and not “rewatch”. I find most TOS episodes unwatchable so haven’t actually seen them all. I know. I know. I’ll hand my geek card in at the door.

  7. Joe, I am so impressed. You find time to work out, eat at fine dining establishments and tell us about them, write your scripts, read books by the truckload, watch movies that are good, bad and mediocre, walk your dogs, and do a variety of other things I am sure that get done and we don’t hear about. Have you discovered a time machine that lets you stop time so you can get all this stuff done? If so, how much are you charging so that I can use it from time to time?

    What Jenny Stiven (Stiviano) said.

If you are rewatching Star Trek the original series, you just have to take a look at this fan made continuation of the original episodes: http://www.startrekcontinues.com/captains-log/#.U6FIVfldV8E

  8. Welcome back Cookie! I have been away from the blog lately, and what a nice way to come back and see Cookies smiling face (thru the bars) and hear ~~ he is back~~. I love Star Trek TOS, well almost anything Star Trek, Spock was I think my favorite..something about those ears… thanks for keeping me entertained..

  9. Cookie Monster mugshot via worth1000.com Is that in Bitcoins?

Ponytail: You ok after the accident? How’s the car?

whoviantrish: Air conditioning working today? A/C repairman are very popular here in the summer. Akin to plumbers in the winter for busted pipes.

There are companies that hire ex-felons. Cookie should look around. 😉 Although, he might like Star Trek TOS. We bought the Blu-rays and they are good! The brain sucker episode always gives me the heebie jeebies. We used to have a brain sucker screen saver. I miss screen savers!

I found “White Fire” at the library in CD form. I’ve got chill bumps listening to it. It’s that good!!!!!

  10. Arcticgoddess : I know, right?! If only I could get half as much done as Joe does, I’d be a happy woman. Maybe I just need stronger (or more?) coffee in the morning? Joe, do you only sleep 3 hours a night or something?

Also, for all those Star Trek TOS series geeks that are coming out of the woodwork (YES!!) have a listen here:

It’s the sound FX from the original series!! I may just listen to it later while cleaning the house 😀

There’s also another fan made film with Nichelle Nichols, Walter Keonig from TOS plus numerous other ST cast members. Exciting stuff!

Cookie, I look forward to hearing allll about your zany adventures. Maybe you should start a blog as well?

  11. I am dowm with the re-watch. Also looking fwd to reading cookie monsters reviews for the movied, always so insightful.

  12. I never really did like TOS, I can’t really remember much if anything about it lol. So I won’t be able to chime in about it sorry.

  13. Hi Cookie! Ok TOS rewatch. I’m with Keith & Katydid add Dr. Horrible’s Sing-s-Long Blog. And as arcticgoddess said Star Trek Continues is a very good replica very credible “old style” screenplays. Im one of the 2,981 backers who kickstarted them. 😛

  14. For as much as I’d love the ST:TOS rewatch, I’m afraid Cookie will make too much fun of the things I loved in that series…especially a certain li’l Russian feller. 😉 Also…where to watch? MeTV does show the original series on Saturdays, but not in the same order you’ll be doing it. I only have TOS in VHS, which is stored in the attic seeing as how I don’t have a VHS player anymore. So, I’ll have to find it on line – for free – and then take the time to watch it on my dinky computer screen. I will try, but no guarantees. Of course, I watched those old episodes so many times I just might remember them all without having to re-watch a thing!

    Plus…can’t wait for THIS episode:

    😉

    das

    1. Das – LOVE that rock. And Kirk. I still swoon over him, especially when his uniform gets ripped and his rippling… muscles.. are exposed. As they so often are 😀
I’m pretty sure I have digital copies of TOS if you’re interested?
I’ve got a bunch on VHS too from way back in the day with a ST movie-of-the-month club. So awesome. One day they will be worth a fortune! ha ha

  15. if you’re going to do a star trek: TOS re-watch, will you start with the original pilot, the cage, or the second one, where no man has gone before?

    to dasndanger:
CBS has star trek up on their site. they have each season together, but not in order (you can scroll back & forth to find each one) so i couldn’t tell if they have all of them.
    http://www.cbs.com/shows/star_trek/season/1/

  16. Can we watch The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl again?!! Gosh I love that movie! 🙂 Ask Cookie!

  17. Ya know, peeps really need to stop sending me uber-sexy gifs of Winter Soldier (a.k.a. Bucky) from that last Cap movie…otherwise I will get nothing done tonight!!!!!

    😛

    das

  18. Well, this is weird. I just watched “The Man Trap” on the CBS site, and the sound effects track was missing! Phasers firing made no sound. Communicators opening and closing were silent. An off-screen scream (I’m guessing that’s what it was, since I didn’t hear it) was similarly absent. The dialogue and music tracks were there, but no effects.

  19. I imagine by the time I catch up the rewatch will be over. I don’t have these on DVD (do have VHS but I don’t have VHS recorder anymore) and I don’t have Netflix, so I don’t know if it will be possible. KHAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNN! Welcome back Cookie.
