  1. I was always very impress with the green screen observation deck shots. Feature film quality, and beautiful.

  2. Hey, Joe!

Okay, I’ve started the early construction phase of my own Destiny ship ..however both Lowe’s & Home Depot seem to be completely sold out of naquadah! Any suggestions?

This isn’t going to be like the time when I built my own DeLorean w/ Flux Capacitor and had to steal some plutonium from Libyan terrorists just to get it running is it???

  3. Love those art dept. prints and the designs for the various parts of the ship. Really cool. If I had that much money to spare I’d be using it to finance another season of SGU!

Heading down in the Grand Canyon for four days starting tomorrow!! Should be fun.

  4. Wow, Those are some impressive schematics! I never even realized that the crew quarters and the observation deck were actually the same room. And now that I see it, The storage room does look oddly like a gateroom. Thanks for sharing Joe!

  5. Thank you for posting the schematics and photos of the SGU sets. It’s too bad the Destiny set was off limits in 2009 during the last set tours via Creation.

  6. Those were fun to study. I’m impressed how the completed sets look so close to the concept. A lot of talented people worked on that set!

How is Jelly? Hopefully, she is more comfortable.

    G’night all!

  7. not everything you need.
there is still plans and designs for all the little details for consoles and such.
…I think I have a lot of them around here somewhere.
drat, no UNIVERSE font on here.

  8. @LEWIS
Try CANADIAN TIRE. — BTW, naquadah, it’s actually made from beaver-tail poutine, eh? 😀

  9. My favorite is Mike’s red penalty card. How funny. The lighting shot of Destiny’s corridors is breathtaking. Looks like a light from heaven.

  10. Awesome! The magic of television is really the hard work and skill of many.

  11. There is a Destiny built on a site…along with an Atlantis and Stagate Command. I’ve stepped through all three gates, used the rings to transport and even have uniforms for my character in each place. It truly is a labor of love…and so spectacular! I’ve even taken a ride in a puddle jumper.

  12. Joe, why does Louis Ferreira look like a Spanish Conquistador?

I had the great pleasure to be permitted a set tour on the Destiny set courtesy of Jamil Walker Smith. You weren’t there. Were you hiding from me again? I swear, Joe, that restraining order was a mistake…

Anyway, one of the things that truly impressed me was the detail in the set. The crew responsible for putting it together must be the best in the business. You can see that they really love their work. I am sure that the actors must have really enjoyed working there. I was also amazed at the staircase on either side of the gate. On screen, it does not look as steep as it is in reality. It looked almost like a ladder in steepness, and not something I was going to attempt to climb.

We also were able to watch the armaments team fire off some squibs, the bullet bursts that are shown on screen. What an awesome job for people who like to blow up stuff. These guys also seemed to really enjoy their jobs.

We had the great pleasure of meeting most of the cast in the series, but we also got to meet James Bamford, the Stunt and Fight Coordinator, John G. Lenic, who took us for a golf cart ride, and Andy Mikita, the Director Extraordinaire, who is now working with Lenic on a new show called Motive, who also happens to star the aforementioned Louis Ferreira. So glad that many of your alumni have found jobs elsewhere.

So, if your American readers are missing the people who brought Stargate to television, shows like Motive, Continuum, Arrow, Arctic Air and Primevel New World, all from Vancouver, can accommodate them. They are all great shows, by the way.

By the way, I won’t be building any Destiny sets in the near future. That is, not until I can get the cast and crew together to operate the Destiny in the way it should be controlled. Letters of request are ongoing. Yours will be in the mail this week. 😉

  13. Cherluvya,….What site is that? I’m still devastated over Stargate Worlds geting cancelled…..I was hoping it would of been finished and even put on Consoles Systems, such as Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It could’ve been updated as time goes along. With new stuff added like Destiny Missions and Crew, Stargate Atlantis City, Missions, Team, and everything that goes along with that show. Also the entire SGC, City of Atlantis, Daedalus, and Prometheus. With a complete game full of missions for space battles etc, with the Daedalus or Prometheus, or puddle jumpers and F302s. A complete online world or Universe reather. lol That could be updated with new missions and complete campaigns for just space battle junkies or home base junkies or all of the aboce. Where you could do a SGC camaign with SG-1 or your own team throughout the entire game or Atlantis team or Destiny team. You know. WHat ever you prefer. I’d of been grateful to pay 15 or 20 bucks for a new campaign to download into my Stargate Worlds Game! and so on over and over again. An entire Universe in a game. It could be a never ending game! That would be my one wish if i had it. lol One wish to change something in that scenerio. It wouldn’t of needed a show that was still running to make it. As many years and seasons that Stargate has under it’s belt, It would’ve and could’ve been bigger than Startrek etc. It deserves it’s own Game! And a Entire World Online Game at that! lol Sorry I get compassionate or nuts rather when i speak of such things lol

  14. Glad everyone enjoyed my anniversary story I posted yesterday. I have since been informed that it counts for not just our 23rd, but also our 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th AND 28th. 😛

    das

  15. These are absolutely beautiful, Joe, thanks so much for posting them. For those of us that got outbid on every single auction it’s a lovely way to still have access to the layouts. Thanks again!

  16. You know I’ve started rewatching Stargate SG-1 (again) and I always notice how the show really starts to improve in season 2. By season 3 everything has really come together, the actors have become a team, the writing has gotten top notch, the sets and special effects are good. The music isn’t overdone, it’s hitting just the right highs and lows at just the right times. And everything continues to get better through the entire series.

When I move on to Atlantis or Universe I can see the writing, sets, music start off high quality and then improve throughout their runs. I think all three series are examples of quality work and those involved have reason to be proud of their work.

  17. Wow those take me back; so happy I was able to spend time on that amazingly cool set. Miss SGU a lot, but thankful you were able to do what you did. Thanks Joe!

  18. Hi Joe and all SG fans, I was so sad of the whole cancelation thing and I missed (and still miss) SGU and Destiny so badly, that I decied to build my own Destiny ship. You can see progress on my page destiny-project ‘dot’ com

PS: I hope SGU will return to us someday 🙂 Hopefully before I die 😀
