Yesterday, we were up early so that we could do a little more strolling and try our luck against the scorching heat.

Akemi Presents…The Artwork!

We headed over to Caesar’s for another lunch at Joe’s Stone Crab.  We were a little early and Akemi needed to use the facilities.  I consulted the handy mall map and their directions to the restrooms led me here:

I wasn’t sure which was the Men’s and which one was the Women’s. I ended up using the one on the right.
Whenever we go out to dinner, Akemi is so hungry that she polishes off the bread basket and then complains about the fact that she’s too full to eat dinner. This morning, she made me promise to turn away the bread basket at our next meal. So I did – much to her displeasure. I reminded her that she’d told me to turn it away – but she didn’t want to hear it.
The stone crab!

Then, it was off to the Bellagio for dessert at Jean-Philippe Patisserie…

The Snickers Bar (left) and the Red Velvet Cupcake (right).
Trio: Creme brûlée, Peanut Butter pop, Rose-Raspberry Macaron.

Akemi works off lunch and dessert with her Xtreme Twirling routine:

We capped off our day with a great dinner at Michael Mina in the Bellagio.  Some of the highlights:

The Hors D’Oeuvres. From left to right: Foie Gras PB&J, Cured Salmon, Crab BLT, and the Steak Tartare. Three out of four were terrific. The BLT was a bit of a letdown.
The Foie Gras Forbidden Rice.
The Root Beer Float with sassafras ice cream and warn chocolate pecan cookies.

Special mention should also be made of the heavenly succotash and exceptional service.

Spoke to my agent today.  Looks like Paul and I are L.A.-bound in a couple of weeks.  Apparently, we’ve got shows to pitch!

  1. Yum, yum on the desserts!! Especially the root beer float. I guess it’s lucky I just had a pack of M&M’s to tide me over. 🙂 And nice of you to put that bit about the LA trip at the end. You teaser! 🙂 Does one of the shows happen to be Dark Matter??

    Have a great afternoon!!

  2. Amazing, wonderful,,shows to pitch,,yippee, congrats to Joe and Paul!!
Akemi is making me dizzy, and what the heck, let them stare, its Vegas!! ,hah, Joe if that is your version of a pole dance, well, uh, close.. Love the yellow on Akemi, so pretty. and thanks for the food pictures, I always love the dessert ones especially. Is that Robbie the robot, where did you find him> Safe travels home. Dogs are barking already.(take treats)

  3. The food is beautiful and so is Akemi. I’ve been to Vegas so many times and never seen food like that. You really do find the best.

  4. Was that Robbie The Robot?!

I’d take the Chewy Pecan Cookie and the Red Velvet cupcake. Yum, they looked delicious!

    Safe travels!!!

  5. Yay for the pitches! Wish you luck.

Akemi’s awesome, not many people’d be willing to go along with that public video. Though, turn away the bread?! Never! Though I’m such a picky eater that at places like that it’s sometimes all I can eat (unless there’s garlic involved). Next time, hold the bread basked back to have WITH the meal. 😉

  6. Also, maybe I’m an idiot, but what is going on with that Snickers Bar?! Usually a safe choice, but huh?

  7. Sorry to hear about your bad hotel experience. Being a hotel Manager myself it frustrates the crap out of me when I travel and find incompetent employees and even more so when they work for me! By the way if you want to see the sites just out side of Vegas the hotel I manage is located 3 hours outside of Vegas and is surrounded by 4 national parks. PS love Dark Matter!

  8. “Spoke to my agent today. Looks like Paul and I are L.A.-bound in a couple of weeks. Apparently, we’ve got shows to pitch!:

Awesome. 🙂 Any of them scifi?

  9. 1. I looooove forbidden rice (sans foie gras)! Very nutty. Like me! 😀

    2. That twirling pic of Akemi? Now you know what she’ll look like pregnant…with four legs. 😉

    3. Joey, Never, EVER do what a woman says, especially when it comes to food! It will always come back to bite you on the ass.

    ..

    .

But then again, you might like that. 😉

    4. Akemi, I do the same thing at a restaurant – I dive right into that bread basket. Mmmmmm! But so does Mr. Das (he’s a carbaholic), and that helps prevent me from filling up on bread before a meal. Still, we will usually polish off the first basket and then request a second. Oddly enough, I rarely eat bread at home, unless it’s a sandwich or I’m making something Italian-y. 🙂

    5. Now I know why elevators always smell like pee. 😛

    6. Steak Tartare? Hear that, Sparrowhawk?! Our dear Joey and our dear Aloysius have something in common. 🙂

    7. Going to L.A.??! I know you can shovel, Joe, but I sure hope you know how to pitch! 😉

  10. Is that a worm in your Foie Gras Forbidden Rice? I guess a bit of extra protein won’t go astray.

Love the tornado water feature. I wonder how they do that?

  11. My 7 year old son requests more videos of the water vortices. Those are way bigger than the ones he makes (so far).

If your video gets a disturbing number of views, that’s just my kid. He looks at vortices for hours a day. He’s chasing toys with his drawing of a tornado right now. But I can’t promise he won’t fall in love with your girlfriend if he concludes from the video that she likes vortices as much as he.

  12. How dare you finally mention the bread basket and not have any pictures! Have you no shame?! I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for a picture of a bread cart, or basket, or even just a piece of bread on a plate. But noooooooo! Last time you went to Las Vegas there was tons of bread. This time, nada, nothing, zelch, too bad, so sad! Boo!

You know Joe, when a famous chef creates a signature dish to have at his very own restaurant, I’m kinda thinking he should be able to say, no changing up my dish. He probably wants you to eat it like he invisioned it or choose something else on the menu. Just think if you spent a month perfecting your own ultimate dish and then somebody came into your fine restaurant and said “add ketchup”. You’d go crazy, I’m sure. Then you’d say, “go to Burger King jerk, and have it your way!”. So I can see why that fancy restaurant you were in did not change your order. BUT, they should have told you up front that “Chef Yahoo gets insulted if you change it, and will come after you with a butcher knife, so don’t even go there.” Blame the sad waiter not the restaurant.

  13. YAY!

You’re coming to LA. Best of luck with pitching shows. 🙂

And hope you enjoyed Vegas. I went there right before I started classes at USC. Such a blast.

    Major D.

  14. Akemi is cho, cho kawaii!!!!!!! You must be happy every day when you wake up and remember you get to spend it with her. ^__^Y

  15. I’m an idiot. I just realized that the ‘picture’ of Akemi with the water thingys is actually a video. Sometimes I just don’t know where my head is. 😛

    das

  16. Wow, I’m jealous of the stone crab. I’m also a little curious as to its origins. Here in Florida stone crab season is October – May and we’re in the hideous withdrawal part of the year. Do you prefer warm with butter or chilled with a mustard sauce?

  17. Ho Hello there!

shows to pitch? Horror or Sci-FI? hopefully sci-fi?
Did you see Miss Black at comic-con?

  18. @sg1efc

You’re welcome! Are you going to build one?

I’d consider it myself, but I already have too many half-done projects on my plate…

    Cheers,

    Jeff

  19. @The Snickers Bar (left) and the Red Velvet Cupcake (right).

    Looks yummy. Lol.

Vegas seems good for food Joe.

  20. @JeffW:

Well the robot from Lost In Space does look cool, but I always thought that Robbie The Robot looked even cooler. If time and money ever permits, yes, I’d like to build both robots and program them to function autonomously, to fight each other to the death. May the best robot win. 🙂

  21. The first picture made me cry out: Danger, Will Robinson. The desserts look terrific. Akemi looks beautiful, as always. Congrats and good luck on the news.
