September 9, 2009: Yep, it’s gremlins alright! Our semi-professional models show off the crew gifts! Actress Alaina Huffman! Stargate pics!
I knew it! I AM being terrorized by gremlins and/or the ghosts of gremlins! Now my laptop battery won’t re-charge! I plugged in my power cord this morning and had the “Low Battery” warning flash up before my computer shut down. After attempting several high-tech solutions (plugging my power cord into another outlet, checking to make sure the little green light was on, wiggling the cord, taking out the battery and putting it back in, shaking the laptop, etc.) the laptop powered up but my power meter read 0%. Five minutes later, I checked again and it was at 100%. Yeah, sure. 100%. That’s what they want me to think! To top things off, I still can’t transfer Google Maps onto my Garmin.
On the bright side, our crew gifts came in today – dashing SGU jackets available not only three different colors, but three different sizes! I, of course, always go with the women’s small, the better to show off my developing delts. Check out the Stargate models in action…
I’m a big fan of actress Alain Huffman. And I’m not the only one. Yes, you can count in the rest of the show’s producers who have been utterly delighted with her portrayal of SGU’s hard-luck Lieutenant Tamara “T.J.” Johansen, but you can also include my wife who, quite frankly, rarely weighs in on the actors I work with. The cast of SGU is an exception because they all received invites to my annual chocolate party earlier this year, an occasion that allowed Fondy to actually meet them in a relaxed setting. She had nothing but great things to say about all, but had particular praise for the gregarious Jamil Walker Smith (who walked in, strolled right up to a table full of strangers, and happily introduced himself with a: “Hi, I’m Jamil!!!”) and Alaina who was seated across from her for most of the evening and proved herself an exceptionally charming dinner guest alongside her equally charming husband John. Yes, we’re all fans of Alaina’s work, but we’re also huge fans of Alaina the person. She’s sweet, funny, incredibly down-to-Earth, and possessed of a commendable chocolate appetite. What more could you ask for?
Maybe a couple of pics from the Stargate: Atlantis vault? Okay…

I, of course, always go with the women’s extra tiny, the better to show off my developing delts. Anyway, check ’em out. Perfect for any mood or occasion –
On the go!
Casual!
Sporty!
Droll!
Sassy/Thuggy!

A Q&A with Alaina would prolly be too much to ask for, eh? I imagine her family and kids take up a lot of her time! But she seems to be an awesome people among awesome people, and the more I hear about this cast, the more I can’t wait for October 2nd (it is the 2nd, right? TV guide says the 9th) to get here!!! I’m running a 10K the saturday before that, so watching SGU will be my carrot on a stick that I’ll be thinking about while I’m struggling up those hills!
question for Brian J. Smith: do you see yourself as a ladies man 🙂 🙂 🙂 :)?
yeah sue me lol, i dont know what else to ask him now. oh and that pic should be very helpful to the folks at gateworld who are trying to find out how many made it to destiny. wait another question for Brian J. Smith: what do you think about the negative fan reaction?
Oooooh, those are some nice jackets! Me wants!!! (size L hint hint nudge nudge) …and maybe there’s a birthday-gift in it for you if an address is given… XD
Joe, I think you live in a technology black hole like I do. For some reason I having similar glitches as you. If I step into my bedroom, the cordless phone stops working properly (although the base is located there) and my cell phone looses all signal. STRANGE!
You know what just dawned on me? I shop at Lulu Lemon too much. In the first pic of Carl I could tell it as a Lulu hoodie…LOL *looks at self in running clothes* I’m currently head to toe Lulu….yep I have a problem. Also, I noticed that Lulu was used in SGA a lot for Teyla and Dr. Weir. Good choices.
Ok, your gremlins have moved on to eating my posts before I can submit them for moderation. I’ve already stayed up past my bedtime, so no promises on how this, the third try, will go.
First, thanks for the photos. Such talent at Bridge studio, what with the hitherto unknown pro models showing off the latest in sci fi outfits. Also pleased to see that the Universe crowd of actors seems to be following in the tradition of their predeccesors in terms of professionalism and likablilty. So when do we get the word on which are the flatulence specialists, the gag pullers, and the seemingly innocent but actually instigators of all pranks simple and devious?
Just close with one last sad notification. I’ve heard that the US has gotten the UN to go along with cancelling October 16 of this year, as a way to save money and help balance budgets. So, alas, it seems all your birthday plans have been nullified. Howerer, you should be able to take consolation that all your co-workers, as well as Marty G. will all be aging a year while you get to remain at your current age for one more year. I hope this information will allow you to plan on what you will not be doing on that non day….
I, of course, always go with the women’s extra tiny, the better to show off my developing delts.
Haha. Pretty much the same principle as push-up bras, I think . . . Or maybe you just enjoy wearing stuff like that – how would I know? o.O 😉
Is there any limit to Carl’s talents? Seriously. From writing Pocahontas to being the Main Man of Mannequins. (Narelle, LOL @ your comment about him scratching his butt.) And Ashleigh looks ready to strut down the catwalk.
Narelle – I hadn’t really understood about everything your family is going through. Lots of good vibes and wishes for the best possible outcome for all those affected. . .
Microsoft’s repetitive nature is what makes HoloLeia so perfect! If it makes you feel any better, my forehead is getting flatter by the day from the continual head/desking I do due to working in the IT industry.
I wonder how long it will be until Google becomes a God and has its own religion? I seek all of my answers from the Great All Knowing Google.
It just occurred to me that HoloLeia is such a Hawaiian name. *sniffles* And my husband isn’t interested in the tropics. *tears up* I’ll have to approach Google with what it craves — information it doesn’t yet possess — and ask it if it’s time for the “Way-Married Separate Vacation.” I mean, Hawaii was my home. – Oh well. — Yeah, believe me, I can relate to your head-desking. I had a friend who traveled a lot, like you, fixing corporate systems; and he had some pretty interesting stories about how things went wrong, and how ineptly people had tried to fix pc’s, thus further screwing them up. *tries not to look guilty*
You might need to pick out a new laptop for your birthday.
Hmm. That battery thing happened to me one day also. Freaked me out because I thought I wouldn’t have enough time to back up my files before the computer just shut down. I think that there was about 10 minutes of battery life left. It wouldn’t charge. Finally, it decided to start charging again, after I did all the things that you did.
Nice jacket. Glad you were able to get a supermodel to show it off.
You have a Home Theater????….now I am really jealous…if I ever had a house I would have one room as my ‘cinema’ room…with lovely big sofas to lie on…mmmmm
I must say trying to load a comment 10 times was an exercise in fun. 😮 I did finally give up. That is the last time I ever split a comment into two.
Show-N-Tell was wonderful. Please pass specials thanks to the models that were very convincing. Obviously the designer and photographer deserve thanks too.
Love the picture of Brian. That could be close to my fav.
Best subject ever.
Brian: After a long day working, do you turn on music, TV or computer…or maybe all three? Oh, games..almost forgot that. What is your favorite of each? That’s a big one huh?
Great pix, just on my second infusion of caffeine before tackling the youngest’s bedroom………dig through the detritus to get in the door, bung it all in a skip, remove shelves from wall, fill in holes, decorate, lay carpet, install new bed and furniture……collapse in a heap!
What? A woman’s extra tiny? Oh come one now… you’re at least a medium. Ha ha! 😆
You DO have jackets for all of us on your blog right? I’ll take whatever size you took. Just kidding! I’m grumpy from lack of sleep last night. *glares at Annabelle*
Anyway… maybe for your birthday I can package a ghost from St. Augustine to go kick the ass of the ghost/gremlins bothering you again. We’ll see.
@Gilder: Prayers coming up for your mom-in-law. And as for Joe’s b-day present… I say: sweater!!! And he should model it for us! 😀
Joe–sounds like your laptop battery may be worn out. (Sure, they’re rechargeable, but only for a finite number of cycles.) For her to be a guy?? 😉
Although I have found a new ‘love’ in DS Hathaway (from Lewis, for any who have trouble keeping up with my obsessions 😛 ), I do hope there is a male* character in SGU that I find equally appealing to me (*see all previous comments about being shallow). Age doesn’t matter, though I do prefer ‘younger’ over ‘older’, but that’s probably because I still haven’t gotten it through my thick head that I’m not 19 anymore. 😛 I’m pickier about looks – I tend to like interesting faces more than ‘beautiful’ faces, and I must admit to preferring thin and chiselled over soft features, or a muscular build. Still not sure why I’ve fallen for this Hathaway feller…not exactly ‘chiselled’, but certainly thin. Maybe that’s it. I love a guy who looks like he needs to be fed. 🙂 And he IS pale…
But in the end it’s impossible to know how I’ll respond to an actor until I see him in action. Pictures don’t tell me, nor can I judge how I’ll take to someone based on the opinions of others. For me, it’s all about the personality, including the body language, the facial expressions, and sometimes even the voice. Broody and tormented usually wins out over comedic or macho…but that also depends on a lot of factors.
It always surprises me when I fall for a character. Why the arrogant Wraith, and not Sheppard…who is not only easy on the eyes, but is also my favorite ‘type’ – a broody, self-destructive loner? Maybe it was all about the hair. But if so, then why this Hathaway character, who doesn’t even have hair! (For that matter, why John Druitt, as well? Maybe I love completely shorn as much as I love the long locks. One extreme or the other – no middle ground for me!) Yeah…it’s always a big shocker when a character hooks me.
I guess I’ll find out if someone appeals to me when I watch SGU. I’m hoping someone does…and if not, at least maybe the show as a whole will…I mean, there ARE shows that I watch where I don’t ‘fall in love’ with a character, such as NCIS. So, maybe – as with that show – SGU will appeal to me on the ‘ensemble cast’ level…which is what I’m hoping for. It makes the show more enjoyable overall (since we all know how pissy I got with SGA when my fellers kept getting punked by the Lanteans 🙄 ).
Oh well, time will tell…
Sorry for the ‘I really don’t know why this came up and where I was going with it’ ramble. 😛 Have a good day, sir!
Just looked on iTunes, and I see that the season pass for Stargate Universe is priced….somewhat higher than the other frachise series were. Kiss one sale goodbye, I can understand raising prices for an established successful series, but I really question this marketting decision. (And I realize you have no say in this matter, but I figured mentioning it here might help bring it to the attention of those who do have some say.
I just finished getting caught up on 6 days worth of your blog. I was to busy having a blast at DRAGON*CON to check in. Seeing Rachel, Joe, Jason & Paul was too much fun. : ) It would be soooooooo cool if you could make it to Atlanta some day. : )
I am going to be late with reading the Sept book. I don’t recall you mentioning it before but then I have had a busy summer. I also gave up on your club for a while because the local library never seem to have a copy of the books you list.
I just check to see if the library has HEROES DIE and they do. So I put it on hold and should get it in the next week or so. If I am lucky I might get it started in time for Oct. ; )
SPACE is finally getting around to advertising the Oct 2/09 premiere of SGU. I am really looking forward to it.
-_-‘
Merci encore pour tout cela!
Je repasse demain.
Bisou, bonne journée!
I’m with AndreaFWhite – can we huh? Pretty Please, with sugar on top???,please, please, please.
I just realized Niall Matter not only is in Eureka, he did 2 episodes of SGA . Is the sci fi world that tight ?- oh and and was Mothman in the Watchman.
Hi! I’m about 2 weeks behind in reading your blog (I know, the horror, right?!) but I just just learned about 2 new sites that you may or may not be interested in & wanted to share them with you, & any aspiring writers who read your blog.
First: http://mashable.com/2008/11/19/fortychapters/
Here’s some info on FortyChapters, a site that’s designed for novel writers. It’s only free for the first month & then $10/month afterward. Looks like a useful tool though for anyone who’s committed to really writing their novel.
Second: http://www.protagonize.com/
Protagonize is a social network for short story writers & always free. I think I may join this one.
I learned about these today, so I don’t have a personal testimony of using them, but just wanted to share 🙂

“Should Al Davis be allowed to trade anymore?” For comedy’s sake? Yes. For the Patriots’ sake? Yes. For the competitiveness of the league? No. In the past two years, the Patriots have turned Richard Seymour, a No. 4 and a No. 2 into Randy Moss, Derrick Burgess and a 2011 No. 1 pick thanks to Al … and even I don’t think Al should be allowed to trade or sign players. It’s just wrong. There is a professional sports precedent: Former Cavs owner Ted Stepien made so many awful trades that David Stern created “The Stepien Rule,” which prevented teams from trading No. 1s in consecutive years. Well, Al Davis is “Dead Stepien.” So something needs to happen. Soon. For the love of God.
i’m recently back from dragon con & many people would like to see you there mr. mallozzi. you and any other writers or directors/costumers/make-up or stunt people.
so is there any chance you’ll be a guest at dragon con?
The interview said that Amanda Tapping thought the new SG-1 movie may shoot after SGU wraps up. Is there any truth to this?My thirst for all things Stargate is unquenchable.
Love the glamour photos of the new fashions! ,Carl is so shy?!! He really needs to come out of his shell.
Joe , what kind of computer do you have or is it just the battery that is kaput?( I ask, so I won’t buy one,,,)
Ahh, the swirling emotions brought on by a dying projector. So sad, and yet – new projector! I find myself heading over to the avs forum at the first sign of impending doom. It makes it the slow fade into darkness much easier to bear
Check your computer manufacturer’s support website. If you have an HP laptop like mine, the battery was defective and they will replace it if it is still under warranty.

Hello Joe, I have not posted a question in a while but the SGA photos are making me nostalgic. Can we get a Q& A with Kavin Smith or Rachel Luttrell?
Questions for Brian J. Smith:
Are you from Ky.? If so, how Kentucky are you?
For reference, I’m somewhere between knowing what to do with every part of poke and not hearing my first real cuss word until the fifth grade.
Oooooh, those are some nice jackets! Me wants!!! (size L hint hint nudge nudge) …and maybe there’s a birthday-gift in it for you if an address is given… XD

Loving all these pics, thanks for posting.

Joe said: Reminder #3: My birthday is October 16th. You should start planning now.
Be careful what you wish for, Joe. I still have leftover squares from the Asgard Afghan (2003). Hmm…wall hanging? pillow? lap robe? sweater?
Mom-in-law’s condition slightly worse today. Prayers appreciated.

Will be that great SGU press kit available for normal fans on Amazon or somewhere else?

@Gilder, thoughts and prayers on the way.

Nice gateroom assembly!
I’d like to know who the two characters/actors who appear with TJ/Alaina are.
Hi Mr M!
I presume that you have already heard about this, I got it from John Lenic:
SGU: In fine voice!!!
http://bit.ly/HbbQ0 It’s hilarious!!!!
Best to all!
S’n’T
Hey Joe,
Ok… I have packing to do. *grumble*

Giler: I hope your MIL lives close by? Sending good health vibes your way.
I’m still sore from cleaning the catteries yesterday. Too many cats!

You know you are only getting ghost gremlins because you not releasing enough spoilers of SGU
I hear the only way to get rid of them would be to release more spoilers. May be so nice pictures of the destiny.
You should see this post in Google Reader – Gremlins indeed.

Weird. I had the same thing happen with my phone. Never did find out what was wrong.
Naurelle: So sorry to hear about your families problems! Wishing good health vibes to you and yours. I’m so glad your family is close by. It was very difficult on all of us traveling to help out.
That is the one big thing I’ve learned through all of this is “Have no regrets”. So we really pushed ourselves to be there and give all we could. I can look back with a clear conscious.

Hi.
Coucou 🙂

Go Seahawks!!!
i’m recently back from dragon con & many people would like to see you there mr. mallozzi. you and any other writers or directors/costumers/make-up or stunt people.
so is there any chance you’ll be a guest at dragon con?
@Das: Hey Chica, have been emailing you but everything is returned, so drop me a line and I’ll send you the shoulder stuff 😉
I just read an interview at:
http://scifiwire.com/2009/09/amanda-tapping-new-starga.php
The interview said that Amanda Tapping thought the new SG-1 movie may shoot after SGU wraps up. Is there any truth to this?My thirst for all things Stargate is unquenchable.
Love the glamour photos of the new fashions! ,Carl is so shy?!! He really needs to come out of his shell.
Joe , what kind of computer do you have or is it just the battery that is kaput?( I ask, so I won’t buy one,,,)
@Airelle – That’s not how gremlins work.
Ahh, the swirling emotions brought on by a dying projector. So sad, and yet – new projector! I find myself heading over to the avs forum at the first sign of impending doom. It makes it the slow fade into darkness much easier to bear
@ Deni – I obediently did as you requested…which is kinda sorta unusual for me, being a rebellious sort and all…
(Well, not really rebellious – more like lazy and easily distracted… 😛 )

Check your computer manufacturer’s support website. If you have an HP laptop like mine, the battery was defective and they will replace it if it is still under warranty.
