Finally, after days of searching, cutting, and pasting, that little side project I mentioned in yesterday’s entry is finally complete. If you’d like to check out all of Baron Destructo’s replies to email scammers, Cookie Monster’s lengthy correspondence with barrister James Williams, or the progression of Aloysius P. Hazzencockle’s dream home from phishing fantasy to meurtiere-outfitted sneaker-making orphan castle (and can’t be bothered to go through the time-consuming process of running a search on this blog) head here:

More slow and laborious progress on the Whispers script today, but I’m pleased to report that I am finally out of the Beckett -Porter scene. I was actually on a bit of a roll this morning (if half a page can be considered a roll – which, in my case, it can) only to be distracted by: 1) an impromptu gathering of the writers to spin four possible new story ideas including a sequel to that season 4 episode and the possibility of revisiting the SG-1-themed and shelved Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, 2) the unwelcome suggestion that we shoot parts of Whispers at Fantasy Gardens, 3) two guys unloading what appeared to be a stasis pod from their truck parked beneath my office window (pictured), 4) what the hobbits refer to as “second breakfast”, and 5) an interesting online article about the Pentagon’s plans to take out a 5 000 pound rogue spy satellite with a missile and prevent it from coming down on a populated area. Nice to know. Still, just in case, for most of early March I’ll be watching the sky and wearing my running shoes.

A quickie book club reminder. We begin discussion of Fast Forward 1, edited by Lou Anders, on Monday (February 18th). Come armed with opinions and questions for Lou will be swinging by to take on all comers. The following Monday (February 25th), we’ll be discussing Neil Gaiman’s Smoke and Mirrors. Then, the Monday after that (March 3rd) we’ll discuss the third book of our BOTM triumvirate: Children of the Night, by Dan Simmons.

  1. Huh. No comments yet? No mailbag? Not even a Happy Valentine?

Well, I hope that everyone’s Valentine’s Day was filled with yummy confections of whatever variety you prefer!

    wams352

  2. Here’s a poll/survey/question for the people commenting on the blog (can I have a poll please? if this is approved, I’ll assume that’s a yes)

Who are your top three favorite Stargate Atlantis characters?

    Thanks.

  3. Happy V-Day, Joe, even if Fondy is out of town for it.

    Can’t wait for season 5! 😀

  4. When is the next comment/contest/certain-number-of-visits-equals-a-prize thing?

  5. I look forward to reading the Baron’s replies to email scammers. 😀
Early entry today…Are you and Marty planning something special this evening? 😉

  6. Sweet new blog idea. I’ll check it out as soon as I’m done posting this.

By the way, can someone please inform me on this “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” stuff? Never heard of it before.

Speaking of which, I miss SG-1. Especially the earlier seasons.

  7. Hi Joe –

I can see some action figures on the shelves behind Leela – is this in your office? and what characters are they?

  8. Wow, a whole blog dedicated to spam! How ever will you keep up two?

Thanks for sharing the photos with us, and sorry to hear about the delayed progress today. Hope it was a good Valentine’s Day for you, anyway.

  9. Wow Joe,
You have been a little busy! Love the collection of spam quips and thanks for the all wonderful links! It kind of gives us a bit more incite into your quirky mind! Way Cool!

By the way, can you tell me if Carl Binder is married? I’ve searched the web for info on him and can’t seem to ascertain that one little detail. If he is not married, will you ask him he’ll be my Valentine!!!

    Thanks

    Patricia Lee

  10. I’ve been working crazy so I’ve been reading but no time to comment. But for a while I’ve been wondering…

Will there be an opening credit sequence set to music for the SG-1 movies (much like was done on the TV show)? Or will all the credits run at the end, like movies sometimes to do?

Thanks, Mr. M, for being awesome in many ways…

  11. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Hey, I’m reading Android Sheep right now, I’m really enjoying it and plan to read Old Man’s War next. Encouraging to see the author’s name on your website list. Thanks for the scene with Carter/Keller. You know the one.

  12. Huh. Interesting stuff today (especially the spinning ideas about the SG-1 theme trio). And isn’t io9 an absolutely fabulous website? I can’t remember how I found it, but I can easily waste an hour there a day…

  13. Stasis pod or….stasis incubator hahah!

Couldn’t you hear what the two men were saying? The man holding onto the pod looks totally bemused by it all.

How about a caption of the day competition?
What was Bert saying to Ernie in photo seven?

    Pauline

  14. You have reached new levels of cool in my book. I love, as every space cadet should, the Astronomy Picture of the Day. You should check out the eclipse on February 20th.
Thanks for keeping us entertained with your wonderful blog.

  15. Ahh, a lovely valentine’s day present to your fans. Thanks for the investment in time and effort. Though you’ve not lost your Baron-ish touch at torture with the teasers on works in progress. Appreciate the glimpse into your favored websites. Having done so much work already, is there any way to set up a site for FAQs? That way myself and others might not belabor you with questions you’ve already answered, or you can indicate that you are not answering certain questions no matter how many times they are asked. Mind, I’d not want to distract you from your more important work of ensuring we get our needed doses of SGA episodes come the next season. You’ve already mentioned the tight schedule. But then, as busy as you already are, perhaps you have a clone? That would explain your ability to read so many books, work on the show, manage the blog, and still find time to have dinner when and where the fans can meet you…

  16. Hey Joe,

Isn’t that the “old” uniform — the one that bunches up under the arm — that Captain Vega is wearing?

    What’s up with that?

    WB

  17. That’s great that Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow is being revisited! When you first told us about it, it seemed like a really cool episode idea. I think it’s about time the Atlantis team dealt with some things out of the “SG-1 trifecta.”

My distraction right now instead of studying for a Political Science quiz: your blog and email.

  18. They are actually unloading parts of the windshield of Bat-bike we wanted to surprise you with for Valentine’s Day. (One for the bike, and one for the sidecar, of course.) Sadly, customs wouldn’t allow for it to be shipped whole…

  19. Question 1: Does McKay actually have hypoglycemia?

(Given his hypochondriac tendencies and the fact that I don’t recall any of the other characters mentioning it, I was not sure.)

Question 2: If so, what type? (e.g. postprandial, reactive, etc.?)

Question 3: If McKay does truly have hypoglycemia, given that some of the symptoms of that condition are the following, are they related to his behavior?
    Glucagon manifestation is hunger.

    Neuroglycopenic manifestations are:
    • Impaired judgement
    • Nonspecific dysphoria, anxiety, moodiness, depression,
    • Negativism, irritability, belligerence, combativeness, rage
    • Personality change, emotional lability
    • Fatigue, weakness, apathy,
    • Headache

That sounds like a lot of Rodney McKay’s less admirable attributes and thus I pondered whether his hypoglycemia is responsible for those or does the hypoglycemia merely compound those traits in McKay or does it have nothing to do with these character flaws?

    Thanks for everything.

  20. Oh yes, looks like the standard uniform, which isn’t really old as it’s just the ‘team’ that got the new stuff (and thankfully Shep’s still got his black BDUs, right, right??)

Do you have any indication as to when SciFi will start showing season 5? Summer or fall?

Oh wow, someone else visits The New Scientist site? It’s been in my bookmarks for ages. You’d probably like Wired too. They get some neat sci-fi type stuff every now and then.

  21. Awesome Sauce,

Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow was a story idea pitched out by Joe in the run up to season ten. It was a time travel story, naturally, but if memory serves me right it got killed by either Brad or Rob after it came down to a choice between it or the awesome The Road Not Taken. Boy, I’d do nigh anything for THAT Sam Carter on Atlantis.

  22. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I just have to mess with ya a little bit and ask if Capt. Alicia Vega falls at least slightly under the category of distraction. (I know, I know, you’ve posted many more pics of Martin G. et al. – not to mention Fondy. But with all of us women – many of us married or with SO’s – commenting on our fave Stargate males, it’s clear that we all love to check out the shiny window displays. *g*)

Stylin’ entry title. Still awaiting announcement about your forthcoming rap album.

Those are two very cool-looking tech toys, and it’s fun to enlarge the pics and check out the specs. Hubs enjoys those a lot.

Hobbits and their second breakfasts, gotta love ’em. One thing I especially appreciated about the movie version of LOTR (especially in the EE set) is Peter Jackson’s realization of the Shire.

Thank you SO much for giving us those links to a number of your favorite websites, and especially the funny email correspondence. I’ll have a great time checking all of it out when I should be slaving away at something else.

Not that I know from personal experience, but I understand that writing is difficult for perfectionists, so more wishes for good luck with your script. And happy Valentine’s Day!

  23. That’s a great list of regular reading and alternative news. Very fun for wasting the day. What would you say is the most expensive set piece (or set decoration) to ever cross your eyes on a Stargate production?

  24. After rewatching “Aurora”, stasis pods sound interesting. And any episode with SG-1 sounds very, very interesting.

And glancing at some of the websites you like to visit, is that a “yes” to my earlier question about whether today’s tech and modern marvels get any creative juices flowing?

  25. Lighting controls! That’s wonderful. I knew the room lights were not controlled mentally. Hah!

    Congratulations on the writing.

  26. Happy Valentine’s Day! The SG-1 themed story sounds interesting…maybe similar to the episode..1969.

  27. I refrained from commenting yesterday and there was still no mailbag. I feel better now knowing that I am most likely not the cause.

  28. Joe,

Would Atlantis’ Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow actually include SG-1? Or would the story idea just be rejiggered to fit the Atlantis cast?

    /Crosses fingers for SG-1 crossover!

  29. Hey Joe. I heard about the satellite this morning and it got me thinking – well sort of thinking.

According to various science magazines there is always the same amount of metal on the planet; hence why stocks in said materials continue to skyrocket.

However! There is hope that this satellite will be blown to smitherines before it enters our atmosphere so can we now say that there is always the same amount of metal on earth when a chunk of it is lost in space? – and I’m pretty sure the Voyager left our solar system a while ago with some on board.

What will this new revelation mean for the floundering stock market? Stay tuned.

Have a good weekend everyone – yay to it being Friday before almost everyone else. Brain signing off.

  30. Well, since everyone seems to be weighing in on how Ronon could lose his dreads, here’s my two cents:

He could cut them as a symbolic way of severing his last ties with Sateda and his former friends after Broken Ties.

  31. Did you see that Stephen Colbert had Neil deGrasse Tyson on last night…..

You guys can predict the future!!!!!

Quick, what are tonights winning numbers?

  32. You likely don’t know this, but I’m a sucker for time travel. Here’s to hoping Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow has better luck this go-round.

  33. It’s been approximately one year since I’ve begun reading your musings and visiting your blog. Since I don’t exactly remember, I shall declare that February 15th be the date.

    Here here for one year!

I read somewhere that means you get to send me an autographed photo. It doesn’t have to be a photo of you or anyone/anything you know, just an autographed photo.

And you’d like to take a moment to thank me for being so witty and charming and creative and thoughtful and engaging with my posts over the past year. Oh, you are too kind.

(and don’t worry…I won’t tell anyone how you pay me to hit ‘refresh’ 1,000 times a day to bring your hits numbers up…shhh)

  34. What about Ronon donating his dreads to a family in need of insulation and draughtproofing? Or a sponsored dread lopping session which raises funds for the Atlantis christmas orphans fund. Or he gets depressed and cuts his hair. He could always go out on the piss with Shepard and wakes up dreadless and dressed in womens clothing.
Why the hell am thinking of this crap at 6am? thats YOUR job!lol

  35. Quick question for when/if mailbag comes back – not to mention if the question is even slightly interesting.

You have mentioned previously that you are a fan of House. Were you a fan of Hugh Laurie beforehand in his Blackadder days?
“We’ve been sitting here since Christmas 1914, during which time millions of men have died, and we’ve moved no further than an asthmatic ant with heavy shopping”.
    So many fantastic one liners.

  36. I figured you would read Gizmodo, the snark flies fast and furious (and hilariously so) there! Have you ever read Engadget, or any of the blogs from that same network? (Luxist, Cinematical, TV Squad, etc.) The SGA reviewer on TV Squad actually seems pretty fair in his assessment of the show, unlike other “reviews” on other sites I’ve read where the critic clearly has some agenda (pro-Weir, anti-Carter, yadda yadda yadda) and always writes accordingly.

  37. Thanks for the list of websites that keep you occupied when you don’t have an idea to type. I’ve added several of them to my own bookmarks to provide me with new surfing sites when I don’t have an idea of how to start my writing for the day. I particularly love the astronomy site…great pic and education material for me.

  38. Hi, Joe.

Chris Judge was interviewed by TV Guide Online:

    http://www.tvguide.com/news/080215-02

    And mentioned your blog:

…[Producer] Joe Mallozzi is the world’s biggest
    blogger…

Interesting interview. In addition to Chris’ “Rage of Angels” project, apparently he has a second project in the works: “We also have a $20 million miniseries over at AMC. It’s based on an all-black regiment in World War I, made up of jazz musicians. They were sent to Europe to entertain the troops but we’re put on the front lines. They were celebrated throughout Europe and ignored when they came home.”

    Looking forward to Midway!

Thank YOU for the pics today.

    Morjana

  39. Glad to hear the garage door’s finally fixed! I’m curious, any chance the Atlantis team would get a chance to work with the whole SG-1 team, ever? A whole Shepard, Ronon, Teyla, Rodney, Mitchell, Vala, Carter, Teal’ C, O’Neil and Jackson episode?

As for the satellite, they’d be blowing up toxic fuel in space, I wonder how long before someone complains…and yes, running shoes.

  40. Hi Jo’ !

Waouh thanks a lot for the pictures !!!
Leela is very cute…what a smile ! I understant you ( when you were talking about yesterday ).
I think it was a very irritating day with noise etc…

  41. *waves*

Okay Mr M i’ve got a burning question for you, and no, it’s not caused by cystitis! I have a friend who is obsessed, OBSESSED, I tell you with the toilet facilities on the puddle jumper and given the clips we’ve seen and more *squeee* for Midway, a quick question is keeping her from getting a good night’s sleep! Please put her out of her misery! I know she’ll be eternally greatful for this most important question! I’ll obviously to preserve her dignity not mention her name!

So, asfter my long winded explanation, MR M, where the heck do they go to the toilet on the puddle jumper?

    *giggles*

There you go LINZ! I asked. Oh did I say her name out loud?

oh btw, between you me and the goalpost, Midway got a 50/10 for me! Absolutely fantastic and out of this world. Will say more tomorrow as I don’t want to spoil anyone. 😀 *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*

  42. Elizabeth Asked:

Who are your top three favourite Stargate Atlantis characters?

    1. John
    2. Rodney
    3. Radek

p.s. If I had a fourth choice it would be Evan 🙂

  43. I have to admit I have a bit dismayed about the addition of even more characters to SGA in season five when IMO the regular characters still don’t receive enough screentime or attention. Why not concentrate on them more and build them up to be stronger and more interesting characters rather than diluting the mix even more.

Keller has failed to interest me at all this season and I feel that she has had even more screentime than Teyla who is a regular. I’m putting this down to Rachel’s pregnancy and hoping it will change considerably in season five.

I fail to see what this new young captain can bring to the mix and why we need endless new young faces thrown in. What is wrong with more mature woman. Porter looks about 18 and Keller about 22 so I cannot find them believeable at all in their roles. It’s a shame Hollywood and the American TV industry has this obsession with the very young and cannot give more roles to mature interesting actresses.

I hope to see season five with more team eps and more emhasis on the friendship and bonds that have developed between them. Fluffy and cheesy characters like Larrin or the constant need for pretty young faces are not what attract me to SGA at all.

I’d rather see more mature and interesting fleshed out characters and the focus on the team. Overall I have enjoyed season four and hope the attention comes back to the team in season five and we don’t just flit from one new young hot babe of the week and neglet the core of the show which for me is the team.

I am looking forward to seeing Woolsey, though with some trepidation, but if nothing else he is a complete change from the previous leaders and this alone should lead to some interesting moments.

  44. oooooooo thanks for the piccies Mallozzimeister. So where’s the pic of the food? Are you not eating? (or are tuna sandwiches not worth photographing?)

Give your pugkids a big kish from me.. I’m going to check out those links and get a laugh out of reading your spammer torturing antics. As Dick Emery used to say ‘Oh you are awful..but I like you!”

  45. He could cut them as a symbolic way of severing his last ties with Sateda and his former friends after Broken Ties

Gosh cat that’s a brilliant one. I can so see him just staring angrily ahead, growling and then (seeing flashes of his past on the screen ) cutting them off in a couple of foul swoops (I almost typed fowl)..

But now you’ve mentioned it, Joe can’t use it!

  46. Thanks for links. I have bookmarked the Nasa one. Awesome pics.

So is “That Season 4” ep that you might do a sequel for from the first half or last half of the season?

  47. Bon matin Joseph,

  48. and 5) an interesting online article about the Pentagon’s plans to take out a 5 000 pound rogue spy satellite with a missile and prevent it from coming down on a populated area. Nice to know. Still, just in case, for most of early March I’ll be watching the sky and wearing my running shoes.

Leave it to the White House to concoct such an stupid plan. Maybe someone should take away those DVDs of “Armageddon” from Bush’s DVD library… 😉

  49. Aaaargh, the irony!

Only imagine what we could have achieved if the internet had never been invented. YOURS is one of the blogs I’M constantly reading when I really should be writing.

    Aaaaargh, I’m doing it now!

  50. Hi,

Tried posting on your other blog, have you stopped using that one now, it only goes up till 6-7th feb?

Anyway, the question was how many episodes will Robert Picardo be in next season, in every single one or on a format like Amanda Tappings run in season 4?

  51. Hmmm, I seem to be a day late. Happy Valentine’s Day, belatedly.

My V-Day involved jewelry, hence my prolonged absence form the interwebs. “Diamonds, she pretty much has to.” Ah, I adore romance!

  52. ***Midway spoilers for those who haven’t seen it yet***

Joe, Midaway was my favourite ep of the season. Not only was there a second mention of Chuck’s name (the betting part was excellent), but Sheppard had the funniest scene I can remember in a long time at the end. The fight between Ronon & Teal’c was awesome (kudos to Bambam) and Ronon’s “I hate you” line was priceless, as was Sheppard’s disgust at Kavanagh’s fainting.
The only thing missing in my opinion was a healthy dose of Lorne, but I’m sure we’ll get plenty more of that next season…right? 😉

Thanks for a great ep, my congrats to all involved.

  53. Hey!

Happy belated Valentine’s Day, hope the crew treated you well and got you some chocolate!

Thanks again for the neat images, and that ‘Alien Incubation Pod Thingy’ (As Drew Carey on Price is Right would call it) looks neat. 🙂

And thanks as well for that neat website project you put up, definitely provides a great laugh!

    As always,

    – Enzo Aquarius

  54. Joe, have you ever thought about writing in a scene or episode where Rodney actually has an allegeric reaction and goes into anaphylactic shock?

Love your Cookie Monster movie reviews. The review of Snakes on a Plane had me ROFLOL. I recently flew and observed people who still don’t know you have to take off your shoes. And there was the poor older Asian gentleman that didn’t speak English who didn’t take off his belt, setting off the alarms. Not understanding what was being requested of him by the various hand motions the TSA agent was making, began to strip in front of us all, prompting a chorus of frantic, No, No, Nos, and more wild hand motions.

And there was the femme fatale infront of me who had a 2 quart plastic bag of make up and nail polish and was told she could not take it all unless it fit into 1 quart (little bigger than a sandwich bag) plastic bag. She held us all up while she crammed the bag full and vowed to make it all fit in! While muttering she absolutely needed all that stuff. The agent just shook his head as he said the bag had to be sealed closed. Thankfully, I was waved around as it was taking her a while. Yes, I made my flight with time to spare – at least I was amused before the flight took off!

  55. Better for Jason to cut his hair than risk a permanent neck injury.
An extra 6lbs of weight is a lot to carry on such a delicate structure as the Atlanto-Occipital joint.

The Han people of China wore their hair long but when the Manchus invaded in 1644 the ‘Queue order’ was given to cut their hair. The Manchus wanted to erase the Han peoples pride, identity and culture, and achieve psychological enslavement.

Is this how you see Ronon losing his dreads, may be at Michael’s hands or some other Wraith faction?

Or will he just take a pair of scissors to his dreads one day in a super-ego make-over?

Which ever way you go just let them go with some dignity!!

    Pauline

Oy, that would break the budget! But it would be really cool 🙂

Well ok, when I mentioned this in a chat to you this morning concerning a certain episode I watched last night, I didn’t quite expect you to ask Joe about it! 😯 😳 Seriously the troubling question did keep me awake periodically throughout the night!

I’m not going to say anything about Midway in detail yet because I’d hate to spoil anyone. However I absolutely LOVED it to bits. Wonderful, wonderful Stargate at its best. Please pass on my admiration and fangirliness to Carl Binder. When folks have seen the eppie on SciFi I’ll post my thoughts! 🙂

  58. Elizabeth to answer your question my faves are:

    1. McKay
    2. Sheppard
    3. Weir/Carter/Teyla (can’t choose between them)

  59. Hey! I’ve been having such a great day, Its my 21st birthday on Sunday, so all my workmates named a star after me which was cool, I’m now left wondering if any of the stargate teams have visited the solar system in which my star lives.
Also, my super brilliant mum has made me a cake in the shape of a stargate and it looks great.
As a birthday favour, could you please post up pics of joe flanigan when you see him?

  60. To Elizabeth:

    In no paricluar order:

    John, Elizabeth, Teyla.

Those were the three characters that really caught me when I first saw Rising, and though pretty much everyone else has grown on me and each of the new charcters has won a place in my heart, so to speak, I admit I still have a major soft spot for the original three.

  61. Mr Mallozi For the love of God stop destroying the few resources that can expedition with such sacrifice, Midway was a great episode, but it was necessary blasting the station?
Now someone to be able to travel to the Earth, they will have to spend the zpm (which in Sg1 was the largest source of energy of the universe, but in EMS appears to have been made in Paraguay, because last unless some alkaline batteries) or staying in 3 weeks Daedalus.
Please do not destroy the Daedalus tbm episode Daedalus Variations in the 5 th season, as every episode with name of something, this thing explodes

Is launched the “Save the Daedalus”

  63. Hey Joe

At that convention you were at with the gang in San Diego last summer you had a Video Camera in your hands. If you are tired of it I could take it off your hands for you?

What make is it? It’s so wee and cute.

  64. I was thinking back to SG-1 during most of its run, and its cast of supporting characters. Would you agree that while SG1’s supporting cast was generally limited more often than not (Dr. Frazier, Sgt. Siler, Walter, Jacob/Selmak, and later Dr. Lee) whereas it seems SGA is almost more an ensemble show (Shepherd’s team, plus Lorne, Zelenka, Keller (through now), Beckett, Heightmeyer, Katie, Weir/Carter). Do you feel the dynamic of the SGA cast has contributed to the different feel the show has than SG-1, or is that difference more negligible than im making it out to be?

  65. Hi! I know it’s a couple of days late, but just a comment on the problems you were having with your garage door. I’ve had similar problems with my garage doors before and it may or may not have something to do with sunlight (at least that’s what I finally figured was wrong with my sensors after years of my garage door going up and down like a yoyo on me). Whenever there was sunlight hitting my sensors at a certain angle, my door would also come down until about a foot off the ground and then bounce right back up again. My solution? I re-routed the sensors so that they’re both off to the same side, facing about an inch away from each other and I haven’t had a single problem since. Just something you might want to consider.

  67. Cher Joseph,

  68. Hey Joe…..So we haven’t had all that much of Teyla this season,i know it was probably unavoidable with Rachel’s pregnancy but i really hope we see ALOT more of her in Season 5…No Teyla for 3 weeks on the trot and it was sheer torture…Anywho is there gonna be any Teyla centric eps next season?

Also is there gonna be any Teyla Whump and if so will it be Physical or Emotional or maybe both? 😉

Please tell me Teyla is gonna be in all the eps next season,i really miss her when she’s not there?

Are we gonna learn more about Teyla and/or her people?

And to answer Elizabeths Question about favourite characters..
    1. Teyla
    2. John
    3. Ronon

  69. Caesia Said:
    Does McKay actually have hypoglycemia?
If McKay does truly have hypoglycemia, given that some of the symptoms of that condition are the following, are they related to his behavior?
    Glucagon manifestation is hunger.

    Neuroglycopenic manifestations are:
    • Impaired judgement
    • Nonspecific dysphoria, anxiety, moodiness, depression,
    • Negativism, irritability, belligerence, combativeness, rage
    • Personality change, emotional lability
    • Fatigue, weakness, apathy,
    • Headache

That sounds like a lot of Rodney McKay’s less admirable attributes and thus I pondered whether his hypoglycemia is responsible for those or does the hypoglycemia merely compound those traits in McKay or does it have nothing to do with these character flaws?

I love your post! If he really is hypoglycemic, that would make sense that his snarky/whiny side would come out more when he isn’t eating correctly.

    Joe, I second those questions!

    And one of my own:
Is McKay really allergic to citrus? If so, does he carry an EpiPen around in case he ingests some?
Or does he just think he is allergic, due to some other reason?(maybe had a bad reaction to something he ate with citrus once and assumes he’s actually allergic…or his parents led him to believe he’s allergic…etc)
Or does he just REALLY HATE citrus and doesn’t want to eat it?

It would be interesting to have a story line that involves him ingesting citrus. Since I’m not really certain anyone actually believes he’s really allergic to citrus, it would be intriguing to see the reactions of his co-workers/teammates if he accidentally ingested some and had a bad reaction.

Or if someone spiked his food with it to either
    A. really try to kill him or
    B. show he’s not really allergic to it.
(you can’t kill him off!..but you could pretend he’s dead to catch the culprit)

It could also be funny if he ISN’T allergic to it and eats some and thinks he’s gonna die…and then has no reaction. I should really write fanfiction to get all these ideas out of my head…but it just seems like such hard work for no pay….darn my lazy, procrastinating side! I’m so good at work…but I come home and boom…my alter-ego “Lazybones” comes out! 😉

    Happy Belated Valentines Day Joe!
    And to everyone else also.

  70. Hey Joe!

Is there a reason why Leela Savasta’s getting fitted for an older uniform top, or are both jackets going to get used this season?

    Thanks!

  71. Wow, I’ve gotten five responses to the poll so far! (Wolfenm, Aqualegia, JoJoB, MarkB, and kdvb1 responded). I think I’m in shock. Well, it’s either that or I haven’t gotten over my cold yet.

  72. Howdy Joe…

Very disappointed to hear about Torri’s non-participation… so is that the end of negotiations with her or will the issue be pursued, sort of a last attempt….. just for the fans?

And thanks muchly for the Sam/Jack allusion, shame it didn’t make it…

Sorry I didn’t respond earlier, Elizabeth, but I didn’t see your comnent.

    My top three SGA characters:

    1. John Sheppard

    2. Rodney McKay

    3. Ronon Dex

(Carter is my favourite female one, but the boys just win! I thought she deserved a special mention! )

  74. Hi Joe, I was wondering if Baron Destructo and his gang took commisssions for ‘having a quiet word’ with people?? The gang done have to go to the bother of actually eliminating this person, but the person that wrote my economics exam filled it long explanations before askign a question and there were so many calculations to do!!

To answer Elizabeth’s question – I dont really have a particular favourite character as I feel that all have the strengths and weaknesses.

  75. Annie from Fremantle Said:
He could cut them as a symbolic way of severing his last ties with Sateda and his former friends after Broken Ties

Gosh cat that’s a brilliant one. But now you’ve mentioned it, Joe can’t use it!

I thought general ideas could be used, but actual dialogue or writing could not. We had this discussion on here a while ago, and I think someone commented and said you can’t copyright ideas.

Ok…I looked it up and hope wikipedia is correct!! 😉 I almost quoted them…and now I’m wondering if I can do that?…lol I guess no one’s making money for it so maybe yes? To be on the safe side, here’s the website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright

So if wikipedia is correct, then Joe can use any “idea” we put here. And if it’s wrong, I for one, give Joe permission to use any ideas I comment on. I would even sign papers on it, if need be.

But, this is all for naught…I doubt he wants any of our ideas anyway…as wonderful as we all think they are! 😀

    My answer:

    1. Sheppard
    2. McKay

    Tie for first: Sheppard McKay

  78. Just saw a couple of piccies from Kindred. If the TV business goes bust you could always try creating a range of maternity clothing. The tops that Rachel is wearing are brilliant, suppose it helps to have a great body!

If she ever leaves the show can I get her wig? (I really hope it’s a wig now that I have said it!) My hair is supposed to sit like that, but usually goes curly instead.

    My favourite characters would be:

    Carson

    Lorne

    Zelenka

and the rest of the ‘boys’

  79. McKay is more likely to be suffering from Munchausen syndrome than hypoglycaemia.

As someone who has diabetes and has had hypoglycaemic attacks quite often, the fact that McKay’s annoying personality is defined as or put down to low blood sugar is annoying.

I don’t think I’m snarky or whiny or maybe this post proves that I am.

Anyway the point I’m trying to make is that most of the traits McKay exhibits could fit in with other conditions such as PMT/PMS.

Hey that’s it McKay has PMT how could we have missed that one?

And you failed to list the biggie the inability to concentrate which as McKay is usually the one who works out the major problems and come up with a solution. When everyone else is running around shooting the place up, goes someway to enhancing my PMT theory.

Pauline. Who now feels dysphoric, anxious, moody, depressed, irritable, belligerent, enraged, emotional and apathetic!! Sh*t need sugar now!

  81. ok I know it’s yesterday’s blog.

    My three fave characters

    JOhn Sheppard
    Rodney Mckay
    Ronon Dex
    Carson BEckett..

    Ok so it’s 4.

I’m a woman… double ewe oh oh em ay enn… we can break the rules hehehe.

  82. Darn fine episode, that “Midway”. One more reason to be thrilled that Carl Binder is back! Kudos to Jason Momoa and Chris Judge also, they did a great job.

  83. I liked Beckett a lot, but I can’t say it prevented me in the least from enjoying the show. The preview for “Kindred I” has a lot of my friends (aka Beckett fans) bubbling over, and their excitement is so infectious, I myself can hardly wait to see the triumphant return of “the great Scot”. For the fans, the “nobody ever dies” part has to be one of the top five best things about sci-fi. But I got to ask, does it ever get difficult coming up with new, clever ways to bring back Lazurus?

  84. Bonjour Joe !
    Comment allez-vous ? Bien j’espère ?
Je voulais savoir si vous comptez prendre une actrice française ou un acteur français pour jouer dans la série et quel serait votre choix.

    Bonne journée à vous
