To quote Akemi: “Dennit!”. I prepped my weekly Amazing Covers post last night to save time today but between yesterday and this afternoon, it seems to have completely disappeared. Wordpress ate my homework!
Amazon is keeping a tight lid on news out of the Stargate writers’ room, but I can report that we ordered Thai for lunch today and that the crispy pork belly that accompanied by Ga-Prao was a little bouncy. Also, two new hot sauces were added to the kitchen arsenal today.
I spoke to Martin Gero, our showrunner, today and can let you know information is coming! You just need to be a little more patient…
In other news of note, yesterday a homeless man threatened to stab me. Not sure why, exactly, but I suspect it may have been a case of mistaken identity. To be fair, it was a little late (around 5 pm which, in L.A., is the new 10 pm) so I should be mindful the time next time I venture out.
Criminal threatening aside, we’re really enjoying L.A.and have even established a little routine that sees us get up at the crack of dawn to take Sharky for a walk and visit a dog-friendly cafe every morning before I head to work. Meanwhile, I’ve abandoned Uber in favor of Waymo, the autonomous driving service that felt weird my first ride but has quickly become my favorite mode of travel. I look forward to a future where I can travel anywhere without having to socialize with a single human being.
Speaking of socializing, tomorrow, we’ll be having lunch with two of our favorite locals, Yael Tygiel and Tauri Jay Miller. Looking forward to catching up with them.
Finally, I’m struggling through my tenth 2026 sci-fi release. Yet another underwhelming read. Given the slog, I think 100 will end up being a respectable reading goal for this year. As always, if you come across an awesome 2026 sci-fi release you loved, do tell!

Chris Hadfield’s The Apollo Murders series is a fun read. It’s not brand new but the third book in the series just came out a few months ago
Will the new series deliberately feature a younger cast in order to attract younger audience?
I love Waymo !!! LOL
Used it several times in SF … Addicted. LOL
Ooo gawd that sounds scary. Maybe the homeless man isn’t a fan of Stargate… have Akemi and Sharky been in a Waymo too?
I’m horrified about the casual I-was-almost-stabbed part…. Ahhhh!!
OK. I’m trusting Martin Gero and Amazon to keep us in suspense. I’m a very patient person.
Be careful with Waymo. Can you jump out of it as it’s moving if you need to? Waymo and California have been in the news lately. Something about it casually turning onto a street that the police were currently having a shoot-out with an armed suspect. Oh, and the most recent story of one hitting a little girl running for the school bus. She was not crossing at the crosswalk so maybe that was a contributing factor. Just be careful!
The more tourists and pedestrians on the streets dilutes the crazy around you in LA, stay safe.
I’ve had panhandlers say “I will kill you” just to shake up the daily panhandling grind by scaring folks, but every once in a while they kinda mean it.
Ruby Dixon’s Fireblood Dragons is an addictive spicy apocalypse series.
Be sure to check the backseat of your Waymo for stowaways:
