Subject/Heading: A darker “continuation” twist: The Fürlin Mandate
”Hi Joe! Huge fan of your work and your dedication to the gate-family. With the new series on the horizon, I’ve been rewatching SG-1 and had a realization about the one big ‘unfinished’ mystery: The Furlings.
We’ve spent 20 years joking about ‘furry’ aliens, but what if that was a phonetic translation error for The Fürlin?
Instead of Ewoks, imagine the Fourth Race as a Muscular, Industrial, and Authoritarian Empire. They weren’t the ‘cute’ members of the Alliance; they were the Enforcers.
The Concept:
Industrial Dread: Think Man in the High Castle meets Andor. Their tech isn’t ‘crystal and light’ like the Ancients, but dark steel, heavy cogs, and brutalist architecture. The Spore Symbol: Looking at the Heliopolis glyph, it looks less like a leaf and more like a bioweapon dispersal unit. They were the masters of ‘biological order,’ using spores to ‘purify’ worlds—which is why the other three races eventually had to exile them. The Conflict: This gives the new series a ‘technocratic military’ threat that feels modern and high-stakes without being preachy. It’s Earth’s grit vs. an Empire that thinks it’s the ‘rightful heir’ to the galaxy.
Would love to see the Furlings finally revealed not as a gag, but as the ‘Great Mistake’ of the Alliance. Thanks for all you do for the fans!”
