Got word today that my O-1 visa has been approved. It will apparently take them a week to process, then 1-3 days to deliver it after which it’ll be…smooth sailing!
We’re scheduled to fly out January 16th, but we bought flexible tickets so we can leave earlier (or later), depending on when the final pieces fall into place. Also today, picked up my new passport, got some extended travel insurance, ensured I have the right cell phone plan in place, and dropped off my suits at the dry cleaner. Not sure about the dress code for the writers room but I assume it will be business casual so I’m thinking of bringing three suits and an assortment of dress shirts and cufflinks.
We also have a place in a very nice walkable neighborhood, so Akemi and Sharky should be happy while I’m busy spinning story ideas. Our place won’t be available until the 17th, so we’ll likely have a day (or two or more) at a dog-friendly hotel. I’m sure Sharky will be thrilled to be out of cold weather Toronto and back to his former sunny stomping grounds. Interestingly, we’ve had three different rescues reach out to us ahead of our arrival, offering to arrange meet-ups with some of their current fosters. I’d love to adopt them all but, in the end, Sharky will decide on the best fit for our home.
Spent yesterday and today reviewing the Martin Gero’s Stargate pilot script as well as the 20+ page series overview (trimmed down from its former 35 page format). Lots to absorb and discuss!
Also read my first book of 2026, a sci-fi novel that sounded very interesting but, in the end, failed to deliver on its terrific premise. I may adopt a three strikes and out approach to this year’s reading game plan.
A couple of behind-the-scenes snaps from the gold old SGA days…
