Today, we kicked off official prep on this new sci-fi series with a good old-fashioned concept meeting.  In attendance: show creator/director/Executive Producer R.T. Thorne, myself, and a bunch of familiar faces from my Dark Matter days (including Production Manager Catherine Lang, Production Designer Ian Brock, Art Director Kelly Diamond, Graphics Roxanne Borris, Costume Designer Noreen Landry, Props Master Victoria Klein, Line Producer Robbie David, and On Set Producer Ivon Bartok).  I welcomed everyone back after a refreshing two year hiatus and then we rolled right into our first two episodes, touching on everything from force shields to holograms, night shoots to mealworms.  We went from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., stopping only for a quick lunch and a conference call with the network to discuss music, casting, and genetics.

Tomorrow, the Wardrobe and Art Department convene for the big palette meeting.

I shit you not.

It’s gonna be a big month!

  1. I’m glad to hear that most of the gang is back together again! I have to admit I’m also hoping Ian has something for me to do. I think I’m done shoveling snow for a couple of days. Oh wait… nevermind.. I guess there’s more snow tomorrow. 🙂

  2. Wow, that is so cool. Nice to see it is coming along nicely, whatever it is!

    1. Only insofar as there’s construction happening on our old stages. The look, story, and tone of this show is totally different. And while I helped develop, I’m not the creator.

  3. Sorry, I was very unclear in my comment. I only meant that set construction in a familiar place plus familiar names getting it done with you there in your business attire reminded me of the Dark Matter days. I see how my vague comment could be taken as implying the show would have similarities.

Nope! Just me getting excited again.

But I must apologize again because I’m unable to reply to a comment or to a reply so the only other choice I had was to leave it as a regular comment. This inability is across all browsers & on my android phone on a couple of browsers I’ve loaded there. I think your blog hates me, or is at least a bit suspicious.

  4. Glad to see everything’s looking good and going smoothly so far.
Very nice outfit. Very dapper with a nice geeky detail touch here and here. Someone knows how to dress up.

  5. I have been hit and miss on the comments, you know life,, catching up on my reading of the blog.. How are you sleeping? any better> I agree to get a massage. You are so busy, need to breathe, relax when you can. I hope it is getting better, we need you to take care of yourself and Akemi and Lulu and Suji. Enjoy reading your day to day… adventures. thanks for sharing.

  6. Watch out Norm will come and steal those whiskey glasses ! He is jealous that he doesn’t have a pair! Lol

  7. @Colleen Scott:

Where can I get my own Dark Matter whiskey glass?

In this case, Things Remembered: https://www.thingsremembered.com/

    It was a custom order…

    @Joe:

Hey! A (modified) Irish toast to the Dark Matter Whiskey Club! (Seemed fitting coming into St. Patrick’s Day)…

May the saddest day of this new production be as the happiest day of Dark Matter!

I still haven’t found Writer’s Tears in the Chicago (or Detroit) areas, so when I have a break from traveling, I’ll look for an online shipper. Worse comes to worse, I may have to visit the dreaded LCBO on my next trip to Toronto (if that’s where you get your supply).

  8. Whoo Hoo! So good to see you (and your Whiskey) back in your office!

  9. Wow, I can’t believe you were able to get all those awesome Dark Matter workers back again. This is gonna be good! You must be serious now since you are wearing your suits. Now i know why you could not sleep…. anticipation!

  10. I’m thrilled for all involved in this new show! Fingers crossed and such.

I’m really bummed out about Luke Perry. When they stated he had a stroke, I was hoping it was a mild one. Treatments have gotten so good for strokes…. I just assumed it would be okay. Very sad for his family and friends. It’s weird seeing people younger than myself pass on. 🙁

  11. The snazzy suit makes it so real, this is happening, woo hoo! Saludos to the team on R.T.’s creation, now I need to know what those cool yet gigantic earrings are for. Will there be giant huntresses styling those earrings? The ninja cat socks portend the ides of Cat tee Thursdays, can’t wait.

  12. Any chance of getting cowboy Bruce in on this production, as well?
That would definitely be fun for all, eh.

Perty socks ya got there. Can hardly wait till mid season of this production when everyone starts to get a bit tired and cranky so you’ll have the perfect excuse to throw on a pair of Ed’s for work! 😀

  13. I am so looking forward to this project coming to our screens. You have done a fantastic job of getting us all excited about it. Hopefully we see it soon!
