I pitched Akemi some of the character elements of my Untitled Awesome Project today and she is now bemoaning the fact that she can’t watch the show.  Yet!  She already has a favorite and some of the situations I describe had her laughing out loud.  Even my go-to onset producer, Ivon, is excited about it – and he only knows the basic premise.  Some major Dark Matter vibes in this one, thematic and tonal similarities that would make it ideal for crossover potential.

Tonight’s blog entry is late because I’ve been having way too much fun working on this series overview that is already 12 pages long.  It hopefully goes out next week for initial broadcaster consideration.  Also, apparently, I need to come up with an actual title for the show.  I’m stumped.  I throw it over to you guys.  Any ideas?

Speaking of overviews, I did a pass on one this afternoon for the series I’m currently showrunning, a polish on an impressive first draft written by our script coordinator, Sam.  It will also go out for broadcaster approval along with the pilot script I revised this morning and sent RT’s way.  Things are coming along nicely on this front.  The revised outlines for Episodes 3-5 are in play and it’s looks like fluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuiiiiiiid and siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilky sailing!

Should I succeed in finishing all my work well ahead of schedule, I may actually treat myself to a matinee tomorrow.  Halloween?  Venom?  Suspira? Can You Ever Forgive Me?    Burning?

Or will I just stay home, researching fantasy football and thinking about starting Haunting of Hill House?

P.S. I woke up to the sound of tremendous CRASH this morning.  Turns out one of the motorized blinds snagged and upended my bar holding my entire collection of Japanese whiskies.  Two crystal glasses shattered but I’m pleased to report that the Hibiki, Toki, Yoichi, Bush, Taketsuru, and Tokinoka survived the ordeal unscathed.

  1. I’d suggest “Wormhole Extreme!” but I think it’s been done already.

  2. Well, we don’t have much to go on, but here are a few names:
    Darker Matter
Dark Matter 2 : Seeing the Light
Dark Matter vs Predator ( my bet: Two wins)
Dark Matter vs Predator vs Alien ( Two still wins )

  3. I’m glad nothing too valuable broke – I have a large old oil lamp collection (every individual piece is over one hundred years old, including most of the chimneys; and shakings and crashes are always worrisome. For a title – hard to come up, esp not knowing all the particulars – but how about either “Across Space” or, even better, just “FTL” FTL might be catchy and embody the same sort of intensity as did the title “Dark Matter”. You know these things obviously much better than I do – but something simple and quick stays in peoples minds and “FTL” covers much possible ground. Whatever the title, I very much hope it goes – and a potential crossover show sounds exactly right. (Also, I always thought that Dark Matter had so much potential that spinoffs could easily have developed in time (no pun intended). Zack

  4. I took my mom to the beauty shop today and waited 2 hours while she got her hair cut and permed. All the ladies in there were talking about watching The Haunting of Hill House and how good it was. I may have to get Netflix. (I think that is where it is at)

Glad your whiskey is all okay.

  5. Without knowing much about the series, but hoping it has time travel in in, I’m going to suggest ‘Time-lapse’–which has pretty fair name recognition and suggests snapshots of events in time. In the event that the series is not about time travel, may I suggest changing it to fit my title. Regards, L.R.

  6. I’ve finished Daredevil and Sabrina (Which is excellent, BTW. I could image you writing for it, Joe. Comic book horror(ish). Or was that one of your possibles that fell through?) and will be looking for something new to watch. Maybe I’ll check out Haunting of Hill House.

As for show titles I’m afraid my imagination is lacking but it should be two words of no more than two syllables each, preferably less.

  7. Off the top of my head a name for the untitled show should be Suji’s heroes. Or Pulsar:Adventures in Deep Space. Or The Trouble with Hubble. I could go on.

  8. I’d stick with “Untitled Awesome Project”. It’s got a nice ring to it.

Wow, I’m glad the whisky/whiskey(ies) were not lost. That would have been truly tragic.

  9. Whew, the whiskey is safe.

A title? Well, Glitter Monkey Rodeo is my go to for unnamed events. Glitter Monkey Robot Rodeo in Space? No? Hmmm, random word name: Backsplash. Why not?

  10. Bit tough to come up with a title when I don’t know what the series is about…. but here goes… you never know if one might spark an idea

    The Kepler Effect
    Infrared
    Maximum Force
    The Trust
    Alternation
    Outlier

Hope that helps spark something, Joe….

    Cheers, Chev

  11. I enjoyed “The Haunting of Hill House” and liked the way events connected at the end. The boys thought it was too slow. Let us know your verdict.

Can you tell us which network your projects are going to be on?

Sorry about the whiskey! Expensive. 🙁

  12. I checked replies first, thinking mine had already been suggested. “White Matter” seemed obvious, without knowing exactly details but knowing it was simular. My other suggestion would pay homage to my favorite Star Trek version “Voyager”, not sure if any writes are protected, “Fluid Space”.

  13. You never realize how much blinds suck until they conk out. My new bathroom blinds are still dangling from the remnants of the previous blind’s prongs. I keep forgetting to try to assemble the brackets, and I’ll pull the string and have it tumble down on me. I do have an idea for your show, I was reading an article on a new guidance system and the phrase “Guided by Stars” stuck in my head. It’s kinda long though.

  14. That is one wicked strong blind! Looks like your favorites made it through which is good. Not sure on the show name, however nicknaming one of the ship’s Snow Monkey’s would be awesome.

  15. O’ Goodness Graciousness!
    Fluff a Duck!
    And Sweet Jiminy’s Crickets!
    There you go again!!

When you die, your fans will sneak
    into the cemetery
and replace the headstone for your grave
    with one that reads:
    Here lies Joseph Mallozzi.
    Forever, such a tease.
    Yep. This is it folks.
    He’s really dead and gone!!
    … Or Is he????

    Give us some better clues
and we’ll put some slightly more serious thought
into helping you with your title dilemma, eh?!.
Until then: My go to suggestions for the unnamed project
would be something to do with nature vs nurture,
    multiverse, bio-engineering, or technological revolution.

    You could call it:
    Reboot.
    Fractured.
    Neural Resolution.
    Hyper Leap.
    Hyper Loops
    or
    Perfect Pretense.

By the way: I will forgive you for the latest lame tease if
your new story also takes place in space as DM did
and your ships mascot is either lovable fur baby Lulu
with a super powerful AI brain in her
    or Ed The Sock.

  17. Totally random titles

    Space Popcorn
    On a Space Shooting Trail
    Critically Triangular

  18. It’s hard to name the project without knowing anything about it. Provided its about a ship in space, following the same kind of format as Dark matter it could be named the same as the main ship. That’s always a classic title albeit overdone in my opinion. Alternatively a character name, or team name if said characters are part of a team. It could even be environmental such as the name of a star system or region of space. There are just too many unknowns to make a decent idea as a fan, I think the ball has to be thrown back into your court.

  19. I suggest you stick with the sexy cosmology theme. How about “Supersymmetry”?
Too bad “The Big Bang Theory” is taken…

  20. Can’t wait for that show. We’re so excited about it. It’s a nice addition it’s potentially set in the DM universe. That’d be fun!

  21. Always looking forward to all from you. I just watched the entire Atlantis series – AGAIN – and am back to where I’d been a few yrs ago after my last go-through. There are SO many possibilities that could have come after the last episode. It was just a pile of question marks! I just loved that show. Thanks again for it and the great characters.

  22. BTW, since I just posted mentioning Atlantis, I thought I should mention that on my way back from the market a few minutes, I saw a cloud that looked JUST LIKE a Hive ship.

  23. I’m very late on this but here are my title suggestions :
    – FTL (because “Faster Than Light” AND ALSO “For The Love”)
    – Luminic
    – Eons
    – Starcrash

Well, maybe not the last one.
