Really, these videos speak for themselves. I got together with my buddy Ivon and we spent an afternoon sampling classic chips, chocolate, and candy. By the time we were done, I was exhausted and ready for bed.
At 4:00 p.m.
The chips…
The chocolates…
The candy…
I want to be there for the burger tasting! I’m on a never-ending search for the best burger. Right now the one served at Gordon Ramsay Burger in Las Vegas wins, but my research will continue throughout my lifetime (no matter how short it may be).
There is a place in Sacramento, CA you need to try: The Squeeze Inn (Actually, they’ve renamed themselves Squeeze Burger.) home of the Squeeze with Cheese. This is a monster of a burger with a “cheese skirt”.
Hm. So Ivon will do taste testing after all….
Wonderful job folks! When is the burger episode premiering?
Here’s some treats you’ve got to try, if you havent already.
Toffifay: Caramel cups filled with chocolate and a whole hazel nut in the middle.
Beware: They are terribly addictive.
Hot Tamales cinnamon candy: Not one of my favorites
but only because I remember them having too much of a kick
for my personal taste as a kid. Lots of my friends liked em though.
Seems you would as well.
Brachs butterscotch discs.
Even better than lifesavers butter rum.

If one of those burgers you’re going to test is from McDonalds, I don’t want to see Ivon eating a Big Mac. FREAK. Just kidding! Mostly. 🙂
Icy Squares were a big thing at our house at Christmas, too. It’s the hazelnut paste that really makes them, though oddly I hate Nutella, which is similar. Go figure.
There’s a store in Saint John called Freak Lunchbox, which sounds very similar to the place you guys visited. I feel the urge now to drop by there and pick up some junk food, though just the thought of all that sugar that you guys ate makes me a little queasy. I don’t have a 10 year old’s stomach anymore!
Great videos, they kinda made my day!
Also, you guys needed to try a Cherry Blossom! Don’t be shy!
Just thought of a couple more treats you might enjoy:
Mary Janes: https://www.oldtimecandy.com/mary-janes-container
Rootbeer barrels: https://www.oldtimecandy.com/root-beer-barrels-container
I’ve never been much into soda pop. Albeit
when I did indulge it was always
vanilla cream soda or Rootbeer floats topped with vanilla icecream.
Bring on the burger tour
and dont forget the chocolate chip cookies for dessert!
Those videos made my day. I hadn’t heard of most of those chips & candy etc. I hope it does not spoil your wonderful childhood memories, that you don’t like these anymore. I’m sure they changed the recipes anyway.
I felt you should have had a drink in between to wash down the taste/cleanse your palate.
Hopefully you’ve both recovered. What did you do with the load afterwards? It’s not like you can give them to random children.
Cheers, Chev
My favourites as a child were:
Twisties
White Knight chocolate bar
Fruit Tingles
Jelly Tots
Smarties (before M&Ms)
Wagon wheels
Golden Rough (high school)
Summer Roll (high school)
Burger Rings (high school)
Drinks would be Passiona (passion fruit), Creamy Soda or Sarsparilla.
Anyone had any of these?
Cheers, Chev
Plus Juicy Fruit gum and hard licorice. I’ve never really liked soft licorice.
Cheers, Chev
I can see you pitching a new show where each week you invite a guest over to eat candy. (It’s like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee meets Willy Wonka!) It practically sells itself!
3rd video was too cute… made me laugh out loud several times.
I don’t often eat candy or candy bars, but on the rare occasion I enjoy an Almond Joy or Peanut M&M’s.
Totally off topic
Could dark matter simply be gravity? Not individual gravity from a planet or star, but the gravity waves that eminate from bodies and intersect with other waves from other bodies? Kind of an observation that seems measurable but has no observable location or source?
I got diabetes just watching these videos !
Hi Joe, Hi Akemi, Hi Ivan, it’s been a while since I have commented but I do still read your blog, always entertaining. Holy Hannah you two brought back some fun memories, loved Pop Rocks!! and the Fun Dips, Pixie stix were always fun too and the lollipop rings. My all time favorite are still the Goetz Caramel Creams!!!
Hi kabra!! Missed you!
Chrome doesn’t like these videos but I get the gist. You guys are still kids.
How’s the weather up there? It’s hot, hot, hot down here. My thermostat reads 100F but the outside humidity is killer! I mowed today. Then I melted on the floor under the ceiling fan afterwards. I felt like I needed a pail, like Odo (Star Trek).
Loved the slow mo……
It’s a bit jarring, for some reason I thought Ivon had a super deep voice and sounded like a young Dolph Lundgren. Did I just imagine that? Or was I thinking of Holden-Ried? Now I must go eat candy.
Joe’s reaction to finding Deep Fried Snickers bars are only a block away; the glee!
