Hey, notice a pattern with the episode titles?  Yes, they’re drawn from actual lines of scripted dialogue.  I say “scripted dialogue” instead of just plain “dialogue” because, in a couple of cases, the “scripted dialogue” didn’t make the final cut.

When it came to deciding on an appropriate title for each episode, I simply drew from a given episode’s “scripted dialogue” and had you, the fans, vote.  In some cases, the titles are on point (“Welcome To You New Home” or “We Were Family”). Other times, they’re a little less so (“Kill Them All” and “We Voted Not To Space You”).  In the case of this Friday’s episode, “We Should Have Seen This Coming”, it’s the former.  Well done, crew.  Check out the promo:

A few things about our last episode, “We Voted Not To Space You”:

This story was actually slotted much later in the season but was moved up after we received some emphatic requests to do so.

In an earlier draft of the script, the Android sets off the door alarm and, when the guard approaches, knocks him down, forcing him to arrest her.  When it came time for me to do a late production pass, I made the encounter a little more humorous, drawing on actress Zoie Palmer’s delightful comic timing.  I loved the idea of the Android trying to get arrested, only to be thwarted by a disinterested security guard, and wanted to culminate it in that shirt rip.  We had two re-sets for the tear-away shirt, meaning we could only do the gag three times.  On the first take, the shirt didn’t rip properly.  On the second, it ripped, but it didn’t fall away to expose his chest.  On the third gag – same thing EXCEPT Zoie saved it by slapping the hanging material aside to reveal his chest…which was even funnier!

  1. @Joe:

I loved Zoe Palmer’s “uninhibited” Android! And while I’m not a shipper, her playing off opposite Anthony Lemke was delightful! Hopefully we see more scenes like that in the future.

    @Drea yesterday:

Camping went well. AirVenture gets incredibly busy and this year was even busier as I was working the show for my GPS and UAV engineering projects and meeting with customers and business partners. Camping on the grounds and having electrical and water hookups made the daily commute much easier, plus we got to watch the afternoon airshows (including the Canadian Snowbirds). A fun week, but exhausting! I’ve been recovering since Sunday and just today I feel like I’m finally back to a normal energy level.

  2. DM has been a joy this season. Really loved the Android going undercover. Hope she gets to do it again. It was fun to watch. 🙂 Thank you for letting us vote on the titles. It feels like we’re all a part of the making of the show.

Hi to Bob Picardo, one of my favourite actors and a real standout from SG and Voyager. Love his tweets about his travels. He seems to take such great enjoyment out of meeting people and experiencing new things. Also, he’s just a regular down-to-earth kind of fella. 😀

Belated Happy Birthday to Andria! Somebody else has one coming up soooon! (sing songy)

  3. Oh! So thaaats what that sketch was for eh?! And here was me thinking it was a personal drawing you had made to post as a warning to the construction crew showing that is how one of them would end up if they didn’t stop dumping debris n their lunch trash on your patio.

Sending my daily dose of hugs love n laughter to you Akemi Bubba n Lulu.
Hope you are all hanging in there this week and doing better. xo

Well I’m ready to go kick some butt n take no prisoners today!
Albeit if my schedule doesn’t slow down here soon – It may very well be my turn to have a neural bust.
Between ongoing interviews for the book Ben & I are writing as tribute to our childhood mentor Eubie, writing & rewriting – new songs for Jim’s album plus + 2 Sci Ed work projects I am coordinating simultaneously, I’m back to working 16 hour days this week! (Yup! It’s just like last year!
    – Wonder when I’m finally gonna learn to just say no to people once in a while).

By the way: Sent ya a link on twitter to show Akemi.
Its to a really cool project in development at MIT.

hmmmmmmm. Gee Joe. Am thinking – Your christmas VR gift giving could prove just a wee teeny tiny tad bit pricey this year when all is said n done, eh?!
    😀

  4. @Jeff W. Kinda jealous you got to watch the air shows.
I enjoy getting to see rocket launches at KSC here but I’ve not seen a really good air show in long while.

Being neither of us are familiar with that aviation series I sent ya the link to
Am thinking maybe? we should just both download a couple different episodes each. If the ones I watch are any good I’ll let you know and vice versa.

If it proves worthwhile -I will buy the whole series for binge watching in the wee hours when I finally get some down time.

(sleep?? oh yeah. I uh …think I may have heard of it, once
    in the distant past.
-Isn’t it that ‘thing’ normal folks do when they’re tired?)

  5. On a side note the other two choices for titles for this weeks episode were:
“Everyone Has Secrets” and “We Are The Future”.

Very intriguing indeed. After reading Aimee Hicks preview for this week’s show I’m even more excited! Sounds like this episode is setting up the tone that will take us and the crew into the last half of the season.

  6. @glowyzoey Happy birthday in advance. (just in case mee middle aged brain decides to fart n forget later) When is it?

  7. I thought FOUR’s conversation topic with “Kiva” had more potential to get him closer to seeing her as a person.

  8. So, tell us more, tell us more, Joe!
What were the reasons for moving this particular storyline up to the #5 slot? Who was behind the emphatic request?
It’s no wonder you had such grief with rewriting this episode and subsequent ones!
All I can say is (again) top marks! Don’t know how you do it?!

  9. @Drea Sorry. No, I meant Joe will be having a birthday this month (unless I’m badly mistaken). Mine was in April. But thank you for the good wishes from your middle-aged brain. I can totally relate! 🙂

  10. Is it Friday yet? Sigh….

That caulk drawing reminds me of Ponytail. Remember when she said that was a crime scene outline from the balcony of the first Toronto apartment? That still makes me smile. Funny lady! 🙂

  11. @glowyzoey Joe’s birthday is in October.
    I don’t remember when Akemi’s birthday is…eeeek. Terrible memory.

  12. Great BTS stuff! Friday’s episode looks intriguing as always, but I couldn’t see the extended promo. Geo-locked, maybe?

I wanted to say that I was really impressed with the Raza’s rendering last episode. I love that it’s got so much more surface detail. That makes such a difference.

@glowyzoey: Joe’s birthday is in Oct. But *mine* is in September! 🙂

  13. @drea:

The airshows were fun, but it’d be great to see a Delta launch from Kennedy!

On the Aviator series, I’ll go ahead and buy Season 1 but it may take a bit for me to get around to watching it. August is a busy month for me as I’m doing a lot of GPS design reviews as customers get ready their products ready to ship for Christmas. I’m hoping to get to the Aviators (among other things) in September.

  14. When I heard she chose “Kiva” as her first name, I was transported back to Stargate Universe’s Commander Kiva. She was ruthless. I’ll say it again–I loved this episode. I look forward to the further evolution of Android.
