March 19, 2016: Comic Con!Akemi and I had walked two block past the convention center and one block down when I realized that the cosplayer we were following was actually a garishly dressed homeless man.  We doubled back, found the correct entrance and we were at Comic Con!

A quick visual rundown of the 37 minutes I spent there…

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

I pass Jabba the Hutt on my way to the coat check.  I think he misplaced his car keys.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

Caught these two guys smoking outside the coat check.  They quickly butted out when they saw me.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

The extended Spiderman family argue over directions to the bathroom.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

I think they were some kind of forest royalty.  Princesses Loosestrife and Sapodilla.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

I never watched Sailor Moon growing up so I can’t be sure, but I thought Sailor Moon was blond.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

And slightly less hirsute.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

Toronto’s Open carry law is limited to large bladed weapons.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

Even Batman’s a fanboy.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

Batman can’t believe the roaming charges.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

Spock gets an elf’s phone number.  The guy is smooth!

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

It wasn’t until they returned home that John and Sara discovered their purse and wallet were missing.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

I don’t tend to give money to drifters but this guy was unusually persistent.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

I thought the pink feather boa was a tad O.T.T.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

On our way out, we stopped by the entrance to Room 801 a half hour before the Dark Matter panel.  Looked like a pretty impressive early turnout.

March 19, 2016: Comic Con!

Celebrity spotting at the panel!  Director Peter DeLuise!

Who went?  How was it?  Spoilers?

  1. Thanks for the tour of Comic Con, Joe … I haven’t laughed so much in ages! Gosh, I wish I’d been there 😂
Hope our Raza crew had a great time too…

  2. Wish I could have gone. Alas, there’s this whole Atlantic Ocean thing in the way.

  3. How do you only do Comic Con for 37 minutes? And why 37 minutes? Was someone holding a Stargate open for you and you had to get back before it shut down? What did you go to the Con for?

  4. Awww…those pictures make me miss NYCC; I wish they would invite Dark Matter to come. 🙁 But, if they do, I’m sure that it would be a day other than the one I have a ticket for. I wish we knew in advance who was when, so we could buy the tickets accordingly.

If wishes were horses…sigh. Oh well.

  5. Hope everyone had fun at the con! 🙂

    @Tam Thanks!

@PonyTail: Glad to hear your dad is finally home. Hope your stomach issues clear up and you begin to feel better soon. Keeping you and your family in my heart and prayers always. xo

  6. From Princess Leia headgear to some guy (PeterD) photobombing your photo, thanks for the pics. Hope you had fun! Missed the periscope, hope it gets posted sometime. Don’t know about you but when I see a Dalek, it just makes me smile. “Exterminate”.

  7. Sounds like it was a fun, albeit brief time. Wish I could have made it!

That Sailor Moon guy is… something. And those forest princesses almost look like they could be the Nox!

Are you sure that was Peter D.? That could be anyone traveling incognito behind those shades!

  8. You two are adorable, coifed as you are in your chromatically-challenged Cinnabon headgear. 🙂

  9. Cute picture of you and Akemi. Did Princess Leia ever have a day old beard? Couple of those costumed people in the pictures are cool looking. Some of them I just want to yell at. And not nice things.

@Drea – Thank you! Wishing the best for you too.
    @ Tam – Thank you!

  10. hmm… I wonder if PINK BOA GIRL was wearing “depends”..? ‘Cause, seriously, getting in & out of bathroom stalls is difficult enough WITHOUT “wings”, never mind 4, plus the TAIL!!

So Joe. Did *ANYONE* recognize you??!

  11. I wish I could have been there!!!

Seeing Spock with the Elf made me think of how my grandmother explained who Spock was to me as a four year old. You see, she figured this character had to be introduced to me in a “Chilld friendly way”. So she explained him to me like this:

“Mr.Spock is a really big pixie who is very very smart, but doesn’t know how to express himself, coming across as a cold fish. He really is quite alright though….”

Yes, my grandmother was a….unique individual 😉

  12. @motownfilly hahaha you win the comments 😊😂

@joe I love your captions… Looks like you had fun… Hope you picked up some great comics…. Although 37 mins doesn’t leave much time to browse the vendor booths.

I wish I could have watched the Periscope but I was asleep.

    Cheers, Chev

    Cheers

  13. Great pictures! I’ve never gone to a Con. Maybe one day….

If anyone remembers Narelle, her Ralphie is very sick. Narelle is on twitter if anyone wants to send good wishes @narellefromaus . She’s talked so much about Ralph during his Ninja (o)possum attack several years ago, I feel like I know him. I’m just praying the news is good.

  14. Nice pictures. Thanks!

My brother was called Spock in high school, to the point it was on play programs and his yearbook. He had the same haircut, just coincidentally. Also, Star Trek was in prime time then. So when I see a Spock, I can get a little misty. I miss my brother.

  15. That looks fun. Love all your captions to the photos. I missed the Periscope, too. I did my pet sitting thing yesterday and then Patrick, Jeff and I went out to Cheesecake Factory to celebrate my birthday. I was SHOCKED at the number of people at the mall. We had a cold front come through and drop our temperatures from an unseasonal high 80’s to close to 90 degrees (about 20 degrees above our norm for this time of year) down to a high in the low 60’s and it was cloudy so everyone did their beach thing at the beginning part of spring break and then did this I guess for the second part. We were supposed to go to a movie (Jeff and I) in the morning but our babysitter had a family issue she had to deal with. We decided to go about 3 PM so we would be in between the lunch and dinner crowds but that didn’t do much for us. We still had a 20-minute wait. Patrick did well though.

Oh no about @narelle and Ralphie.

    @maggiemayday Awww. <>

    @Jorie Funny story

Love the pic of you and Akemi.

  16. I like conventions, it’s a great place for people to show their passion for stuff they love, be it TV, Movie, Anime, Manga, Comic etc characters. Especially those who make their costumes from scratch, it’s like a labor of love.
