March 3, 2016: Dark Matter Sneak Peeks And Comic Book Recommendations!

Director Jason Priestley was in action today, shooting Day 5 of (the as-of-yet-untitled) Episode 206.  He’s a crew favorite for his infectious enthusiasm and dynamic pacing.  Also, his heavenly shoulder massages.  The grips and electrics skip lunch just so they can get him to work their tired delts!

Also seeing action today was this stylin’ fashionista, THE agent of the future: Tabor Calchek (played by David Hewlett).  P.S. Check out the socks.  This season, Tabor finds himself an unlikely guest aboard The Raza.  And one of our crew members find themselves in the unenviable task of babysitting.

Uh oh.  Design by Victor Mare.

Speaking of Victor, he stopped me in the hall yesterday to ask about the Dark Matter comic that (seemingly) started it all – and we got on the topic of other titles we’re reading.  I promised to put together a list of some of my recent ongoing favorites – and here they are:

  1. I know you prefer the dark and horrific, but how about some graphics with. happy endings?

  2. Ohh snap, KathyC…!

Also, yay, David! But, it could be a flashback episode… hrm. Unless I missed something in spoilers

  3. Now that’s what I call a spoiler & a teaser. If I were to guess – Four would be a very interesting babysitter. I imagine he does not suffer fools easily. I believe Three would just shoot him & Two would beat the snot out of him especially after he betrayed the team in S1 Ep 12.

  4. Hats off to the Wardrobe dept, Tabor is yet again the rockin’, trendy fashionista (plus ‘matching’ socks!) 💛

I’m going to guess that Android is the crew member who will be babysitting him, but whoever has this task – bring on the snarkiness!

Victor’s design….? Looking forward to seeing another cool design in the context of the episode, so much happening in Season 2. Not long until air dates will be announced 👍

  5. @Tam I think when I try the recipe you sent me this weekend am also going to experiment with making chocolate-cherry brownies. I’lll make one batch with sliced bing cherries and 1 with maraschino bits and a touch of natural cherry juice. I’ll make the 1st two batches more cake-like and the next to batches more soft gooey and moist and see which ones come out better. Obviously I’ll have to be careful about not adding too much cherry so it doesn’t become too rich/sweet to eat. Albeit am thinking half and half or milk should do the trick for keeping them smooth and creamy (not overpowering) tasting?

@Chev: Hope you’re hanging in there! Sending positive thoughts, hugs and smiles your way today! xo Hey Mister! At the risk of sounding like a mothering hen -Have you made an appointment to find out your lab results yet?
No matter what’s going on with the job…. Your health should always come first!

    Speaking of which ….

@MaggieMayDay Feeling any better today? Sending plentiful virtual whiskey and dreams of brownies your way today. XO

@PBMom: Hi Hilda! 🙂 Welcome Back! 🙂 Hope you’re gonna stick around for a little while this time! 🙂

@Joe: I know you said we are gonna do another Q & A soon – albeit how ’bout a mid season periscope? Maybe? with you and some of the directors as previously suggested. Without giving way to spoilers, they could talk about and show us a little of what went into the making of the season 2 episodes they were charged with and set aside a few minutes for our educational questions.

Sounds like it would make for a very popular session to me, if you can get them to volunteer a little bit of their lunch hour time on a Saturday.
Albeit – I dont know for sure, eh.

What’dya think my lovely blog siblings? Anyone want to second this (periscope with Joe & Directors) motion??

  6. Oh Hey, BTW: I did not see that one coming, eh! So the crew “wasn’t” voting not to space SIX in ep 205. They were voting not to space ‘Tabor Calchek’?

That makes sense. That he was one of the corrupt handler/brokers involved with them he’d likely be on the run from the GA now that the RAZA crew has escaped from the thought to be inescapable Hyperion 8.

Should make for one heck of a comical episode!. Can’t Wait to see it! 😀

  7. Oh, David Hewlett! It’s always good seeing him.

You probably don’t realize this but I look forward to your book recommendations. Out of those you mentioned this time, I plan to check out “VISION”, “PLUTONA” and “ARCADIA”. Thank you!

If anyone is looking for a space adventure full of fun, I suggest they check out The Black Feet Trilogy by Joshua Dalzelle. I enjoyed all three of those. It reminded me of SGU because of the political maneuverings and the cool space ships.

Drea: Those sound like delicious distractions! I’ve made cookies with dried cherries and paired with bittersweet chocolate pieces. Those are awesome! Never tried cherries in brownies but how could it go wrong? Sending positive vibes!

PBMom: We all knew Peter was brilliant. Ask him where that teleporting machine is that he’s supposed to be working on for Narelle? 🙂 Please say Hi to him!.

Tomorrow, I work the karate tournament all day. It’s not hard work but for someone with ADD, paying attention for that long, is difficult! I’m packing chocolate and tea. 😉

    Have a good weekend everyone!!!

  8. I do love a good pair of socks. Hawt!

LOL, we have a city of Riverdale just south of us. It is the land of car dealerships, Wal-Mart, Applebees and Chilis. The land of Darkness indeed.

Thanks Drea. Things have gone downhill physically, I get to see the surgeon next Tuesday and find out if the new stuff can wait, or if I need some cuttin’. Yippee. I will dream of brownies. Whiskey, not so much, but I’ll double down on the dream rum and imaginary absinthe.

  9. Thanks Joe, for your recommendations! I shall check them out…. Think I’ll give digital a try too! 😶
Spooky timing though – received my first copy of Monstress today…. Like WOW! Also reading Mezolith (Ben Haggarty/Adam Brook). Gorgeous, gorgeous illustrations. Thanks for the recent tweet. 😊 I’m finding this amazing fun!

Back to DM … and can’t figure out what
‘Uh oh’ (Victor Mare’s intriguing design) could be. Looks serious enough to be worrying though….. much like that shirt and sox combo!

And lastly, but certainly not least,
@Drea… You’re asking how everyone else is doing, how about you?

  10. Curious….fashionista Tabor has what looks like a huge safety pin on his pant cuff. Is this the fashion trend?

Hope you will be able to swing additional set visits. COOOOOL.

  11. speaking of socks, what ever happened to pics of Natalies? She had some epic socks! Does the crew still do cat shirt Thursday?

  12. One look at Archie and I’m whisked back in time to the Stop and Shop comics rack. Gotta love a spot that sells gasoline, comics, diapers and Pop Rocks,

Arcadia looks good, some interesting pics here. I had to zoom in to see the lens in Jason’s hand. It’s great to have before those snowballs start flying at that cool fort One built.

  13. I can’t say that I’m a fan of any of those comic suggestions, but they sound interesting. But some anime suggestions from me that I’ve watched recently. Luck and Logic, Active Raid(I love this show, it’s a Cop show, and cheesy), Hai to Gensou no Grimgar(Based in a videogame world, quite serious and slow at times), Gate(Pretty fun fantasy series, that involves the JSDF in another world), Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!(Probably the funniest fantasy anime series I’ve ever seen, the main character dies and is reincarnated in a video game world).

  14. Any chance you can persuade Jason to do a cameo in this episode? Yay, David’s back! Yeah, that shirt…

The Archie book sounds dark and grim. They killed Hot Dog?? Whatever happened to the innocence of the comics when the most sinister thing the gang had to worry about was Moose getting cranky, and what the girls were going to wear to the school dance? Sounds like Riverdale is turning into Sunnydale. The Hellmouth will be opening soon. Where’s Giles when you need him?

  15. Re: the Matcha from yesterday, which looks like it could light up a room, I have some Japanese matcha that I’ve tried to drink a few times and have put in my morning smoothies. It always gives me heartburn. I only use a third of a teaspoon. Any tips on how to consume it without resorting to an esophageal transplant?

  16. Awe a shoulder massage sounds so good. I had a supervisor once who would come up behind you and do that. I’d turn to jelly in a split second. That fashionista is so cute.

  17. Oh, and also, agree with glowyzoey (of course), yes please get Jason to do a cameo, walk on, bit part, guest star, recurring role, or better yet, he could be the mysterious SEVEN they find back on the ship in a stasis pod, who they forgot to wake up! 😆 Please? Oh please oh please oh pleeeease!

  18. Wait wait wait wait wait wait!!! Sorry, I was thinking Jason Momoa! Oh dopey me! One track mind. I guess glowyzoey was referring to Jason Priestley. Which is also a great idea. But getting Jason Momoa would be awesome!! Make it happen Joe!

  19. Ya know, I could catch up and be #1 commenter again, or at least make the top 5… Much to your chagrin!

  20. Maybe I could do it on this one blog entry. Naw. Okay, I’m going away now. Moving on to your next entry…he he he he. 😛

  21. I’m trying to play catch up guys and I’m gaining traction here. I didn’t realize I’ve missed more than a month’s worth of blogs. I guess I’ve begun the binge-blog trend. I can’t really engage in anything that requires a length of time this week because Patrick is home on spring break, so when he darts to his room, I’m jumping on and off.

@maggiemayday I am so sorry to hear you are still dealing with stuff. It is so difficult to work so hard to make progress to hear that something else comes up. It is an energy drainer.

@Drea I still have been looking at the comments trying to see if you got the results of your biopsy. Have been worried for you since reading about that earlier today.

@TamDixon Definitely will send your hellos to Peter. I’ll ask him to stop by so we can say hello to him. It’s always feels nice to be missed (and thank you guys for missing me–if you notice I haven’t had much time for FB or Twitter either).

    Love Tabor’s socks.

  22. ‘Mask’ (Peter Bogdanovich, 1985)
    ‘The Goonies’ (Richard Donner, 1985)
‘Big Man on Campus’ (Jeremy Kagan, 1989)
‘The Toxic Avenger’ (Lloyd Kaufman & Michael Herz, 1984)
‘This is Water’ (David Foster Wallace, 2009)
‘The Year of Magical Thinking’ (Joan Didian, 2005)
