From the onset, I promised viewers, twists, turns, surprises and shocks over the course of Dark Matter’s first season.  There have been plenty in these first 11 episodes and there are a couple of more BIG ones to come.  So, as we barrel toward our big double episode finale (this Friday night on SyFy and SpaceChannel 6 pm PST, 10 pm EST/PST), I thought I’d take a moment to offer up my take on Dark Matter’s Biggest Holy Sh%t Moments this season…

#1 = The closing seconds of our season finale (Episode 113)

Yes, we’ve had some mighty shocking moments in the series to date but, really, nothing beats the closing seconds of our season finale.  In the words of Melissa O’Neil (Dark Matter’s TWO): “It will blow your mind.”

  1. I can’t argue with any of those, they were all great moments. I think the ones that drew the biggest visceral reaction from me were the stabbing of Akita (I actually said “Whoa!”) and when TWO got spaced. The Derrick Moss revelation along with the supposed murderer was way up there too.

I can’t imagine what the season closer is going to be like to out do those. I’m can’t wait, and worse is that I’ll have to wait until Sunday to see them.

Speaking of which, I’m off to NH tomorrow, but I’ll be around an internet connection until Friday morning as I’m just doing a day hike on Thursday. Looking forward to that too, since the terribly humid weather we’ve been having is supposed to finally break to be cooler, drier, and clear. I hope.

  2. I thought the Ferrous Corp launching a nuke at the Raza and Two ordering that they fly the ship straight towards it was one of those moments too. It was pure Kamikaze, and had Ferrous not backed down at the last moment, it would have been bye bye Raza lol.

Unrelated, been watching some Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace lately and this series is crazy. It’s a detective series, and some of the stuff they cover I found kinda shocking, well within the opening few minutes the main character awakens in his classroom to find his teacher dead(dismembered) and the murder weapon in his hand. It’s well worth checking out, some of the cases are quite dark I’d say.

  3. Friday’s season finale will no doubt be a Cliffhanger….its the only way to go…..

  4. We are loving the show! I enjoy season finales but it’s bittersweet. It will be months before we get new episodes (I’m thinking positive).

Do you have any favorite new shows this season?

    Lulu news?

    Have a good night All!

  5. How is Dark Matter performing?

Well, a look at the numbers here: http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/syfy-tv-show-ratings-updated-33879/ tells you it’s performing above average compared to other original scripted shows on SyFy.

Its 0.25 18-49 demo average puts it in a tie for #4th place among the 12 SyFy original shows.

Its 1.02 overall viewers puts it in #3rd place among the 12 SyFy original shows.

A formula that has proven very accurate in predicting renewals says that:

    – Shows that perform well above, above, or right at the average of a network’s original programming in the 18-49 demo get picked up.

    – Shows that perform well below the average of a network’s original scripted programming in the 18-49 demo get cancelled.

    – Shows that perform slightly below the average of a network’s original scripted programming in the 18-49 demo are considered on the bubble.

If you analyze the averages for SyFy scripted programming, the average in the demo is 0.2358 (rounded up to 0.24)

Dark Matter’s demo average to date is 0.25, above the average – which predicts renewal for the show.

But it gets even better. The seriestvfinale link lists shows that aired in 2014. Broadcasters have been seeing a drop in viewership year to year and you can see this play out in shows like Defiance and Dominion that were averaging about 0.45 in the demo last year and are now averaging closer 0.25.

So, running the numbers again, comparing Dark Matter’s demo average only to the average of the SyFy original programming that aired in 2015:

    Dark Matter averages 0.25

    The network average is 0.21

Dark Matter is performing well ABOVE the average. This is good news for Killjoys too.

If you look at the last show SyFy picked-up: 12 Monkeys also averaged 0.25 in the 18-49 but with only 0.79 overall viewers.

12 Monkeys was already picked up for a second season and averaged a 0.20 over it’s last four episodes in the demo. In its past four episodes, Dark Matter has averaged 0.24. Over its last five episodes, 12 Monkeys averaged 0.21 in the demo. In its last five episodes Dark Matter is averaging 0.25.

The numbers don’t lie. Dark Matter will be getting a season 2 renewal. And, if not, there are going to be a lot of angry fans and a network with a lot of explaining to do.

PLEASE SHARE! The numbers don’t lie.

  6. Here’s hoping DesitnyRider is right. I’m crossing my fingers for Dark Matter, Defiance and KillJoys – the combination of these shows have made me look forward to SyFy programming again for the first time since SGU went off the air.

  7. Wow Joe, this show is such a wonderful ride, every week, new twists and turn and really exciting, what a hot crew of the Raza!! There will be a S2 or heads will roll, just give 4 his sword!! (just kidding)(maybe)…
How is baby Lulu? and Bubba, ? Any more luck sorting thru your stash of collectibles? I know how hard it is to throw away anything, I am getting really good (well better) at donating and recycling, and using items for other purposes. It is not a fast process… We have stuff and it’s our stuff,,,,so on we go…good luck.

  8. I am beginning to feel a bit trepidatious about the shows season finale. While I have no doubt that it will awesome, I have a feeling at the end I will be yelling “what the hell Joe” at my TV. My brother is almost caught up for this Friday and the further along he gets the more he is enjoying the show. I have got my fingers crossed that SyFy will announce a season 2 pick up soon!!! Also hoping all is well with Lulu. I still need to get caught up on the blog. I feel out of the loop. On a side note, check out MY love STORY on Crunchyroll. It is a Shoujo set from the guys perspective. I am loving it more and more every episode and it is in my top 5 animes. It’s about the different types of relationships poeple go through. It’s very simple and sweet. Also please forget I ever mentioned No Game No Life. While the show is great, I forgot just how WRONG it got. Well for me anyways, it completely crossed the line of what I normally watch. Apparently i did a really good job of blocking it all.

  9. Commenting way after the finale, I agree the season finale had me screaming at the TV. My second favorite was the stabbing of Akita.
