  1. I hope my TV is hooked back up by tomorrow night!!

One question – have you noticed an increase in blog visits since the premiere?

  2. Reminder if anyone needs/wants a refresher on Episode 1. On SyFy thursday/tonight at 9 pm central and 10 pm eastern.

  3. How are the pups settling in without Jelly? No questions about the show yet. We’re looking forward to the next episode here!

I’m definitely getting the Lou Anders sequel and probably buying a copy for a friend’s b-day too. I pre-bought a Scalzi book but it’s one of the Old Man’s war sequels.

The mom visit went well. My son drove the first leg of our trip back while I read a book. Big mistake because he passed our exit. We ended heading deeper into Mississippi rather than heading towards Memphis. Oops, we both learned a lesson and toured new areas of the south. No biggie, just spent more time together. I’m glad to be home though! Sorry, had no brain for FB earlier.

  4. I’ve noticed that Dark Horse Comics (Entertainment?) is listed in the end credits as (?). What is their relationship with the show? Yes I know they published the comic book series, but do they have a continued interest in the show?

  5. Joe, because I haven’t been reading the mailbag to avoid spoilers, I don’t know if this has been asked. if so, just point me to the answer. Anyway, what I’d like to know is how it made you feel to see your creation come to life on the screen? And has Paul shared any thoughts on the matter?

    Thankies.

  6. I was glad to hear Stargate writers were coming back with a new science fiction series, and am looking forward to seeing how the show develops!

I have one pretty major issue that’s really taking me out of the story though – the characters’ appearances. To preface, I’m in a rock band and routinely use all kinds of hair styling and makeup, am personally interested in fashion and like to buy neat clothes, so attractive people on TV or elsewhere is cool with me.

What isn’t so cool, is how distracting it is in every scene when this rogue team of hardened criminals marooned in space on their dingy rusted smuggling vessel emerge from an indeterminate amount of time in stasis and walk around like Calvin Klein models with perfectly curled-salon hair and mousse applied just-so.

It makes the otherwise well-conceived story difficult to take seriously because the characters appear so disconnected from their environment and unaffected by the circumstances of their life style that it’s aggressively self-defeating. It feels like you’re watching actors from the CW who wandered into the wrong television sets.

I don’t know if that’s just part of the intended (comic book?) aesthetic of the series, but it’s unfortunate to me, especially given that the characters in Stargate Universe felt extremely grounded in the difficult circumstances of space travel, which made the drama easy to invest in.

Dark Matter looks to be dealing with similarly dire subject matter, so that particular aspect of the production design looks to be a pretty serious miscalculation. I’ll just blame the network for now.

All that said, looking forward to the next episode and am very curious to see how the series expands. You guys are carrying the torch of hope for space on TV!

  7. I’m surprised that no one has mentioned the “save” Three did when they were sitting with the miners, and One started to spill that they don’t know who they are.
My question is: did Three do this to deflect suspicion away from themselves so the miners would be more forthcoming or to garner sympathy from the miners? One just went along with the flow.

    Thanks!

  8. @2cats: “I’m surprised that no one has mentioned the “save” Three did when they were sitting with the miners, and One started to spill that they don’t know who they are.”

Oh, I noticed that right off – he’s obviously very quick thinking.

I got my TV/Internet hooked up fine today. So, Dark Matter live tonight!

  9. Things I noticed on rewatching 101. The Zobot Zecurity system clearly viewed the woken up crew as a threat. Was her memory wiped as well and she went into default mode, or did she retain her memories (until actually wiped by two) and the new crew was viewed as an immediate threat? Hmm.

Also, her “bio-synthetic physiology is incredibly similar” to the ship’s outer hull. Does that mean the ship is self-repairing and actually pseudo-organic? Cool.
