April 10, 2015: Check Out The Dark Matter Teaser Trailer!

It’s here!  It’s here!  The Dark Matter teaser trailer is finally out!  Share!  Share!  Share!

Head on over to IGN.com for the write-up and links:

When SyFy told us they wanted to produce a one minute teaser trailer for the show, my initial response was “Impossible!”.  We only had two locked episodes with no finished visual effects.  How could they possibly produce a compelling trailer?

Well, I stand corrected.  This first teaser trailer is pretty darn terrific.  A big thanks to Gary Morgenstein, Katherine Nelson, Bill Trojanowski, Samantha Agnoff and the rest of the gang at SyFy Publicity & Marketing!  Great job on this one and I look forward to the next VFX-laden trailers to come!

SyFyFridays returns to SyFy June 12th with an SF triple header!  A two part premiere of Defiance kicks things off at 8:00 p.m.  And Dark Matter has the 10:00 p.m. slot.

Circle the date on your calendars and SHARE THE HELL out of our trailer!

And here’s a little behind-the-scenes pic to tide you over until tomorrow.  Locked and loaded.

April 10, 2015: Check Out The Dark Matter Teaser Trailer!

Allow me to end today’s entry with a shout out for my long-time buddy, Lou Anders, who is about to publish the second book in his Thrones & Bones series (Nightborn hits the shelves July 14, 2015).  Meanwhile, Lou’s been keeping busy, touring.  And, apparently, his characters are going places as well: http://louanders.blogspot.com/2015/04/thrones-bones-characters-for-fate.html

Thanks, all.  And get the word out.  We’ve already got over 22k views and counting.  I want to reach 50k by Sunday!

  1. OMG I am so excited for June 12th to get here so I can watch this show. It looks absolutely amazing, and the cast looks great as well! SyFy did an amazing job coming up with a one minute trailer. You can almost feel the excitement of the show with just that little bit of a teaser.

  2. Looking good!

Love the “because we are dangerous” line.

    Love the cast photo.

Love Four and his trusty katana.

I had to stop reading the comments on IGN. People can certainly be narrow-minded jerks. How can you comment on a show before you see the first episode?

  3. @ Sparrow_hawk – I read through a lot of the comments on ign. They didn’t sound too bad to me. They are just talking. I think they are genuinely excited about a new space show and happy to see SyFy stepping it up. They do need to come here and read all about it and get the facts.

Joe, I am so excited for you! Good things come to those who wait.

  4. Love the cast photo. I’ve added a news piece to The Morton Report. Hopefully it makes it up on the site this weekend.

  5. @People can certainly be narrow-minded jerks

I saw that too, but it’s best not to give them a second thought. Some people can be negative just for the sake of being negative. It’s just who they are and nothing will change that unfortunately.

  6. Not that I would expect anything less, but the trailer is indeed awesome! I can’t wait to see the next one.

Heading out this morning for my annual trip to Grand Canyon. I’m actually on the plane now waiting for take off. Should be fun and of course I’ll have pictures.

@Sparrowhawk: because some people are just a-holes. They can’t help themselves.

  7. YEAH! Its finally here. Cannot wait. I would do a happy dance but I might throw out my back. Extreeeeeemly proud of you guys for this accomplishment. Hugs all around. The Cast and Sets look great and that trailer is a nice tease. I love that it is coming on after Defiance as I think the two shows will go well together. Will carve out the time slot to watch live for sure and tell everyone on my Facebook page, Scapers, Gaters, and everyone I know to watch too. Weeeeeeeeee I have been savoring all the morsels you’ve been dropping everyday leading up to the premier. Thank you for sharing with us fans of SciFi and you.

  8. Cutting a compelling trailer from limited material is a rare skill. I think they nailed it!

    That last line . . . brilliant!

What’s everyone doing for International Tabletop Day? I’m heading to Bath to play some games. If you’re not doing anything today you should find a local gaming group and play some games with new friends!

  9. If that’s the real and to be used DARK MATTER show logo.
(…similar enough..but differing slightly to the one used for the books.)

Why isn’t that the logo being used up on Syfy’s Dark Matter site/page?

    ====

Will there be some other “official” Dark Matter website?..or is the
Syfy website going to be it?

  10. Just nitpicking..and I know that there will be other trailers to come..and
I know that this first one cut by Syfy is only a minute long.

….but I think that the “FROM THE WRITER-PRODUCERS OF STARGATE”
part on screen should have maybe come a little bit earlier on in
    the trailer/promo.

….but then they also run the risk of some people thinking that it may actually
*be* a promo for some sort of actual new Stargate show.

  11. Oddly….my concerns about the green haired girl have diminished
slightly…while my concerns about the rest of the cast/crew have
    increased slightly.

    Need to see more.
    Will be seeing more.

I have had a concern that not all of the various elements will mix
    correctly/appropriately.
…or maybe they aren’t supposed to mix so “properly”..and that
much of the development to come spawns from such things.

The books showed us some things..
Our own imaginations show us many more things/(possibilities).
..and the actual show will end up being whatever it will be.

The books gave us such a nice launching pad for thoughts
    and possibilities.

Looking forward to the first episode(s).
Looking forward to the full season of episodes.
*Really* looking forward to the big season finale episode(s).

  12. That trailer was in one word AWESOME! Sharing it as much as possible and letting friends and family know about it! All I can say is that June 12th can’t come soon enough! Well done Joe to you and the rest of the crew!!! 😃

  13. Oooooh, looks great 😀
Seriously excited. Most excited I’ve been about a show in AGES!!
(Well, unless you count Better Call Saul, but that turned out to be a snoozefest.)

    PS : Boo, Hiss, IGN….
I could probably whinge about IGN, and their insistence on placing their great big watermark onto other people’s content, but I’ve done enough of that.. (Google : Jayenkai IGN)

  14. I’m so happy for all involved in this project. Can’t wait for the premiere!

Yes, I’m looking forward to Lou Anders sequel too. July is a long time!

  15. Even before you mentioned how the trailer was made from early footage and without all the VFX, I thought it looked great. Now, you have me really excited for the finished product!

I like that the trailer introduces us to each character and we get an idea of each character’s personality. I’m going to love each and every female character, especially the Kid and Android 🙂 Also, good to finally see Four and his blades in action!

    Well done.

Defiance + Killjoys + Dark Matter will make a great Friday lineup.

Oh, and I’m trying to ignore the racist/sexist remarks on IGN and Youtube. These same people hated all over 12 Monkeys before it aired – and now it has turned out to be a fine scifi series.

  16. Channel surfing this afternoon and I found Ark of Truth and Continuum on SyFy so I tuned in to watch. This is the first thing I’ve watched on SyFy since SGU was taken from us in its infancy. Thankfully it won’t be the last with Dark Matter on the horizon. Friday entertainment worth staying home for is so overdue. Akemi’s roomie (and dog parent extraordinaire) created something that made me eat my words and tune in to the network once again. Thanks to you and your crew for the hard work and making this old scifi addict a happy man. To be lost in space and see it’s full of stars again. Waxing nostalgic for the future.

  17. I have shared the trailer on my Facebook page and am drawing friends & family to share the excitement. Fortunately, many of these are fellow sci-fi geeks like me. I will also post the image & logo around my work cubicle and speak glowingly of it and the premiere date, to all who pass my cubicle.

Now excuse me, I have to go re-watch the trailer a few more (dozen) times.
    Huzzah!

    2cats

  18. My buddy from Fox 26 Houston saw it on my FB page and he said he loved it and he was in. He has a lot of friends, too. It looks fabulous. “I so excited…and I just can’t hide it….I’m about to lose control and I think I like it…”

  19. Reblogged this on Pbmom's Blog and commented:
If this 1-minute trailer is any indication, this show is going to be a huge success. I applaud Syfy for bringing back a space-based show. It has been away from its channel for FAR too long.

  20. at last another classic is about to emerge! long live Dark Matter !! was waiting for this one for since 2007 !! huge thank you!

Is more of the SG1 / SGA/ SGU cast going to pop in ? please do if you can! we love the team of course !!

also: would Akemi not like a role as a character in it? or Bubba ?

  21. I don’t know why, but that first pic at the top actually reminds me of Destiny in SGU. Maybe it’s the color of the metallic background of the ship.

I just want to reiterate what everyone else has already said. Dark Matter couldn’t come soon enough. Ever since SGU ended, there’s been a severe lack of space-based sci-fi shows. I mean, think of it, no Star Trek, no Stargate… seriously, what has aired since May 2011 when SGU ended? I think that Falling Skies is the only one, and technically it’s based 90% on the ground, only 10% in space. So that’s 4 years of non space-based science fiction TV programming.

I’m glad we’re back to the space shows. 😀
