It was just the boys today, Anthony Lemke (THREE) and Marc Bendavid (ONE), in for some anti-gravity fun and stunts.  Later, at the craft service table, they both had a special request: more Zero-G sequences!  I’ll see what we can do for them.

While we were chatting, I couldn’t help but notice Anthony playing with his guns. And not for the first time either.  Every chance he gets, he’s practicing: holstering and unholstering his sidearms, twirling them forward, twirling them back.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see him out and about with his wife – she, shopping, him following a few steps behind – holstering, unholstering, twirling.

I’ve got some great behind-the-scenes pics and videos I’m holding off on posting for now – including a first-time inertial dampener fail run-thru.  Can’t wait to show you.

In the meantime, here are some photos I CAN share…

January 10, 2015: Dark Matter, Episode #101, Second Unit Day #1!

Director T.J. Scott and 1st A.D. Brandon Tataryn all revved up for another early morning start.

Design on the back of the bridge chairs.  This was my seat for most of the morning.  Sadly, I had to give it up for one of those run-of-the-mill director’s chairs when we moved video village to the sub-zero section of the stage.

  1. The gun twirling reminds me of a story I think I remember from the SGA DVDs, telling how Jason Momoa used to do the same thing all the time. There’s always one in every crowd, I guess! 🙂

That “space waste” can doesn’t happen to be right below the ship’s head, does it?

Wow, the “look” of that “contemplating his options” shot is just fantastic. If that’s what we can expect, we really are in for a treat!

  2. Wow! I love that last picture!

@ gforce – Yep, Jason Momoa was a big gun twirler. He had it down pat but I believe it was the, um, er, producers who made him tone it down some. Don’t deny it Joe or I will go back and find either the blog or the DVD that told the story.

  3. I also would like to welcome any newbies, Sci-Fi lovers looking for a new home, and returning old timers to Joe’s Blog. It is awesome to have you here. But careful, it is addictive. You’ll never leave. Reminds me of that Eagles’ Song…

But you can never leave! ”

    Welcome everyone!

  4. Ooh! Ooh! Is that one of the hazardous waste sticker designs? Very cool! Especially the skull and cross-bones at the top. I can’t really see the pictures and text at the bottom. I need the figure out how to enlarge stuff.

Welcome, new fans! Joe is a very gracious host and very generous with his time and behind the scene pictures. Like the ones above. And yesterday and the day before.

Enjoy! And what Ponytail says is true – it’s addictive.

  5. @Contemplating his options.

This is a really great picture, you really outdid yourself there.

    @The Raza’s one-armed bandit.

It needs Pac man on it! 🙂

  6. You telling us you have video, and picture footage we can’t see makes us want to see it more…THANKS for that!! 🙂

WELCOME to all the new reader’s of Joe’s blog, you’ve read possibly one out of 3000 posts, have fun!

  7. I pity the foo…

I mean, WELCOME NEW BLOG FOLLOWERS!!! 😀

It’s very important to know a few things…

    1. Joey is afeared of heights, and maybe snakes and clowns.

    2. Joey doesn’t particularly like being called Joey.

    3. Joey loves chocolate.

    4. Joey is not a fan of mint.

    5. Joey loves awful offal.

    6. Joey loves hot Asian chicks anime.

    7. Joey loves good books and good food.

    8. Joey sometimes suffers from mysterious aches and pains that can most likely be attributed to farts caught crosswise. We don’t ever take any of it too seriously (even when he comes up with things like ‘cracked ribs’ 🙄 ).

    9. Joey loves dogs, and hates anyone who is cruel to our furry friends.

    10. Joey plays this thing called ‘fantasy football’, at which time most of us just ignore the blog entries and instead just talk amongst ourselves. 😉

Now, ist back and enjoy the Joseph Mallozzi blog experience, it’s the best around! 😀

    das

  8. Joe, I gotta ask or it’ll bug me… shouldn’t this be day #2? I thought maybe you would count up to 90 days, since you said production would last 90 days.

  9. See, you can tell you know what you are doing when it comes to making a sci-fi show!

  10. I like the standup arcade game looking thing with the #6 on it. It reminds me of a Zaxxon arcade game we used to have in the living room. Happy filming!

  11. I’ve just been going through my recently bought dvds of Season 1 of “BLACK SAILS” and noticed that a couple of eps were directed by “T.J. SCOTT”… — If your T.J. is that T.J., all I can say is “..holy ****! You sure SCORED!!”

BLACK SAILS is awesome! – [sort of VIKINGS: “The Next Generation”-ish, but in a tropical setting] – And soooooo **NOT** “DISNEY”!!

  12. It’s exciting seeing the behind-the-scenes pics. I can’t wait to see videos and the cast in costume.

With TCA continuing this upcoming week, is Syfy going to reveal anything about Dark Matter, or will that be held off until closer to the premier date?

  13. I wish you could have posted all the pictures you took! It’s getting exciting!!! Any idea when it will air?

Welcome all new comers. To like this blog, you have to love Sci-fi, food, and treat your pets like children. 🙂 Also, please post! Speaking for myself, I love to read comments from such a diverse group of people.

I’m halfway through Red Country. Very good but bloody. I had a moment of panic this weekend when my Kindle paperwhite locked up. Thankfully, my tech guy (son) got it working again. Whew! It was a tense few minutes for me though. 🙁

Off to eat my tea and scones (apple cheddar, yum!). G’day to All!

  14. Wow. All that lovely wood transmogrified into futuristic alloys and carbon based fibers materials. Joe, you really seem to enjoy dark stage settings. How do the DP and Directors feel about its effects in filming compared to other types of background colorization?

  15. Oh my, 3000 blog posts on WordPress!! But, wait, you also blogged elsewhere back in the dimly lit past – yes? So, how many posts all together Joe?

Dark Matter coming at you fierce and strong! Can’t wait to see more behind the scenes.

    @das…LOL, your post.

A humble welcome ALL new blog readers! This is by far, the best blog on the Internet! Prepare to be amazed, enthralled, entertained, and gob-smacked (not necessarily in that order or exclusively).

    2cats =^-^=

  16. @JustLookAtTheFlowers

It’s far too early for that level of promotion, It’ll happen though.

@10. Joey plays this thing called ‘fantasy football’, at which time most of us just ignore the blog entries and instead just talk amongst ourselves.

True that, but I think it’s more a case of people not being sure what to say about it. I don’t mind reading about it though.

@A humble welcome ALL new blog readers!

Echoing all of this, welcome one and all to Joes blog 🙂

  17. Oh and by the way Joe, it looks like Ghost in the Shell Arise is getting a TV series for Spring 2015. I quite enjoyed the OAVs, though I’m disappointed that they won’t be doing a Stand Alone Complex 3rd Gig, this new universe is interesting enough. There’s also another movie too, it’s the 25 anniversary of the franchise, which is pretty cool.

  18. Well that is weird. Typed this long comment and it wouldn’t post. Using my new Surface Pro 3. Test went through though. Welcome to everyone new. Das has a great travel guide to the important things to know. You may even make some friends along the way. 😊
