Two down, one to go.  The Toronto and Vancouver second round casting sessions are in the books and only the L.A. session remains.  Be Vanessa and I won’t be able to attend, we’re going to live stream it to the production offices.  Theoretically anyway.  I imagine it’ll be sort of like those interactive video conferences that look so cool in the movies but never quite work out the way you want them to in real life, with participants dropping out, losing audio, losing video, the whole punctuated by the background caterwaul of children or dogs in desperate need of feeding.  Still, we’re going to give it the ole college try (let’s say more Devry than Harvard).  Festivities get underway at noon PST, which means we’ll be watching well into the twilight hours.  Guess we’ll be ordering pizza!

The plan is to have our selects, Top 3 for each of the seven roles, by early next week.  And that’s when the decision-making will get REALLY tough…

Paul delivered his first draft of episode #10, the first part of our late season two-parter.  He promises to have #11 to us before his weekend arrival – which means I’ll be able to do my pass on #12 (already written) have that out by early next week.  Leaving us with…only the grand (season one) finale to write.  Or, rather, finish since I’m already 15 pages in.

Meanwhile, no rest for our awesome construction crew who have been working their little tool belts off –

  1. Perhaps you should have turned this whole casting process into some sort of reality TV show, something like American Idol! Or maybe Survivor.

Anyway, of course I’ve shared, liked, and favourited all the Dark Matter social media stuff. I think I’ve even got some people I never would have thought were interested to be excited for it!

  2. So why is the Dark Matter twitter account following Rae Dawn Chong? Is that a casting hint? 😉

  3. The corridors are starting to look a bit NCC-1701-D. Is the Raza huge?

Is the name Raza loosely based on a Spanish verb?

  4. At work we have those interactive 2 hour video conference meetings all the time. I only wish the other end participants would drop out, lose audio, or lose video so we could end it and get back to the real work.

  5. Someone should have left a camera running… You already have the makings of a “Makings” show going on. I keep expecting to see MIKE HOLMES to show up for a cameo!

  6. So, top three for each of the seven roles, eh? Any chance of including Us for the vote? Mmmm, I didnt think so… I hope that Icheb from Voyager is one of the applicants – Manu interaymi.

  7. Once they’re done do you think the construction crew would be up for a trip to the UK? I need some bookshelves!

I’m off to Iceland for a week today. I’ll try to post some photos!

I’m sure someone has posted this before:

  8. What you need is some of those Ancient communication stones 🙂

And yep the Raza is looking really good, it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out once its all complete.

  9. We have hour long video conferences at work, too. Not a fan. But the team on the other end has gotten better at acknowledging that there is another group present (us) instead of interacting amongst themselves and completely ignoring us.

@das: I knew i could count on you to be a champion of bathrooms on the ship!

Ooh! Ooh! I think someone should vanish on the ship and have everyone desperately looking for them thinking maybe they stepped out of an airlock or are actually bad guys out to betray everyone only to have them step out of a nicely appointed bathroom refastening their belt.. or something.

  10. Das: SGU had a shower.

    Sparrow_hawk: 😆

    Line Noise: Safe travels!

    Fascinating look at building sets!

  11. News of Note – This morning I invented oatmeal-flavored wallpaper paste. 😛

@ Sparrowhawk – I am the Bafrum Champion! 😀 Also, have you picked up the latest Pendergast book, Blue Labyrinth, yet? So far, so good! I’m only 19 chapters in, but so far it’s reminding me of the earlier stories. However, that’s barely a fifth of the way in, and so much can change. Still, I have hopes it’ll be a satisfying tale based on the overall tone so far. Also, there is a kiss…that, for some reason, I found quite satisfying. (And that’s something coming from prudish ol’ me. 😉 )

  12. I have saws and a hammer and power tool. I may make 6-figures, but I some how wish I could get a job helping to build set. I too like the smell of freshly cut wood.
@ Sparrow-hawk, I believe in an answer to a previous question of mine, Joe stated there would be no bathrooms. I am thinking cat people.

  13. @ Line Noise – OMG that’s it!! I prefer taking those meetings at my desk so I can stand up and stretch constantly, eat, drink, lay my head down, roll my eyes and make faces and nobody sees me, talk to passersby (“I’m in a meeting, but go ahead, what did you need?”), or just work on other things. When I’m with a group in a large conference room, I sit the furthest away from the camera, and move my chair where I am just out of view hiding behind the person next to me. All the camera sees is an occasional arm reaching out for a sip of bottled water. Joe – enjoy your day!!

  14. Can’t wait to see the Galactic Authority Cruiser. Hopefully you can capture the monolithic feel the Legos design captured! 😉

  15. Das: A new Pendergast book?! How did I miss that? Thanks Das! I’ve been hoarding episodes of Lewis/Hathaway. I’ve finally had time to watch a few of them. Wonderful season!

What a feeling it must be !

  17. Very low ceiling on that bridge, so cool to see it all before movie magic and cool light up panels. Luck to all the actors, can’t wait to see the Raza crew together.
