I was planning to rant today about news I received on another project, but I’m not going to do that.  Nope, I’m going to keep things positive and won’t even bother expressing my irritation, anger, and general disappointment with a potential scenario that has presented itself today – despite the fact that the individual who pitched it to me presented it as a positive development.  I’m just going to put it out of my mind and focus on my upcoming trip.

I’m also going to ignore that managerial request that came my way today.  Like children, puppies, and cavemen who are defrosted from centuries’ slumber and forced to reintegrate into modern society, managers are generally oblivious to the ways of the real world – so I’m going to cut this guy some slack.

I’ll also ignore the fact that I was finally looking forward to trying out Gyoza Bar, Vancouver’s new gyoza and ramen restaurant.  It opened to much fanfare on Saturday and, two days later, I planned to have dinner there with Akemi and our friends Kathode and Catherine.  They don’t take reservations, so KC arrived early…only to discover:

September 9, 2014: Ranty Rant Rant!

Seriously?  Closed for a private function TWO DAYS after your grand opening?  Tell you what – I’ll come back and check out in the summer of 2015.  IF you’re still in business.  And not closed for a private function.

Picked up sis at the airport today.  She’ll be here for the next ten days, house-sitting and spending quality time with the dogs.  Oh, and hopefully updating this blog while I’m away.  No?

On the bright side, all goes well with that SF show.  Today we discussed playback – and then, coincidentally, I ran into our old Stargate Playback Supervisor Krista McLean!

Also got preliminary shooting schedules for episodes #1-3.  There are some fairly ambitious days in the opening two-parter and I suspect things will even out once everyone has had time to digest those first four scripts and we make a decision on what goes on which stage.  I’m thinking that having the shuttle on a separate stage may open up more 2nd unit opportunities.  Whaddya think?

Alright.  Off to hit the waiver wires.  Then bed.  Big travel day tomorrow.  Are you guys packed?

  1. All packed! 😀 Well…not quite…in fact, I still have a load of underdrawers and socks to wash…

Hey – this is weird but when I go back to Sept. 8th, the new entry for Sept. 9 doesn’t show up on the right under Max’s picture, so I can’t link to it, but instead have to reload the homepage.

In other words, you break’ed somefing, Joey! 🙂

  2. Hmmm… Separate stage, hand off to second unit, save money and time, and blow it all on a massive space battle during the finale! Or spend it on a tricked out office chair. Either way, sounds like a solid plan. Since you asked.

  3. the place closed for a party two days after opening?!
they were probably having a party to congratulate themselves on opening the place. the irony is they probably pissed off so many potential customers that the place will fold-up in less than 6 months.

  4. G’day

Sis is fursitting. At least you know they are in good hands. So who is fursitting Sis’ furbabies?

    Packed…? Are you inviting?

    Safe travels.

  5. Safe journey!, Do you get jetlag that way, or is it on the trip back? How long is the flight? Hope it is all good, relax, have fun, takes lots of pictures and eat many desserts. ~~ Hi to Sis at Joes!! {{(waves)}}

  6. Im with you, keep things positive. 🙂 The only thing that matters is enjoy the travel & your time outside normal business.
Some times let sleep a matter to amplify the meaning of the things you do is of greater effect. 😈

Sis controlling the blog, well, more pictures of dogs and some unexpected information leak. 😛

  7. You should save money and and have everything, even the second unit, on one set. Dub the sound later when the daycare is having nap time.

  8. Das: My cat is old and fat. I clean his butt with wet wipes. Being my cat would be a peaceful vacation from reality…

Rant away Mr. M. but really, your approach of positivity is the best way, I think. Why let others bring you down? I’m trying to take that approach but it’s tough. Like walking in mud tough.

Safe travels to both of you!

  9. I just unpacked from Burning Man, in fact, I will be unpacking, cleaning and repacking for some time yet. Already updating the idea/want/need list for next year. That began while we were waiting to get into the event. So yeah, no, I am not packed.

My cats are on the bed, backs to me. I can tell they are disgusted. Trixie, the 5 pound, 18 year old little lady cat I inherited, has decided she can ignore the big boys and sleep in the sun spot on the big pink cat bed in the middle of my bed. Oide and Harry are resigned, but resentful.

  10. It’s not that they closed for a party (even though I’d wait a few months after the grand opening before shutting down for a day), what surprises me is they closed ALL day. Just how much are these people going to eat anyway? And I think they need a sectioned off area/room for large gatherings and parties. I guess I’m too sensible to own a restaurant.

If you want to leave your computer at home with your sister, that is okay. We can talk to her. It would be fun.

If you won’t rant, can I? Come on people! Quit sitting on your hands and lets get it done! Move it! Have you noticed what we have to watch out there? Reality TV, full of egotistical, self absorbed idiots! If I want to watch that, I’ll just go outside.

I got them excited at work today. This one girl’s husband came to work with her for the second day in a row. WTH? Who does that? Why would you do that? I work in a extremely confidential area. I can’t even tell you where I work. And her husband is in there all day. I asked if he was working there now and if I could bring my dog up there. Maggie would be much more entertaining than that husband!

Well I guess you are safely in Tokyo now. Hope you had a good flight. What are we going to do first?
