  1. Tammy might be worth a look.

The Purge one….that concept or a very similar one was done in the days of Star Trek Classic. Planet where “Carnival” was celebrated for something like 12 or 24 hours and everyone just let loose the inhibitions of being decent people. Anyone outside was at risk. I think the entity worshipped was Landrew or similar.

  2. I haven’t seen any of the modern “Apes” movies.

Didn’t see the first “Purge” movie.

Can’t stand “Sword and Sandals” movies.

You had me at Luc Besson and Scarlett Johansson.

  3. Perhaps Besson meant Scarlet can’t use more then 10 percent of her brain?
I know, that’s not nice. I feel very bad about the joke, though I’m sure if she reads it she’ll get over it, what with all her money, good looks and fame.

  4. “Hercules? Who cares?”

Bwahahahaaa exactly! Actually I may skip all of those. Maybe I’m meant to clean out my garage this summer.

  5. Hubby can’t understand why I don’t wanna go to the moobies anymore. It’s because of stuff like this. Too many things out there that I just have no interest in – not even the latest X-Men movie or Godzilla, both of which 5 years ago I would have rushed out to see in a second. Now I will wait for DVD rentals, and save money and time in the process. As for the movies above, and the only one that even slightly grabs my attention IS Hercules. Come on, folks – it’s The Rock! And it’s The Rock looking all sweaty and feral! 😀

    ..

    .

Heck…I just might go see that one in the theater. 🙂

    das

  6. I like Melissa McCarthy and even though they stole my name for the title, it doesn’t look like a good rental or even a freebie. My hubby says I should demand royalties. 😉

I would see the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes . Loved the last one with David Hewlett. Watching the animal abuse bothered me but the effects were stunning. None of the other flicks you listed look that good to me.

    How are you feeling?

  7. Well maybe if the main character had red hair and the protagonist spoke with a Latin accent and was a front for something in the music industry, could that help?

  8. I invented a new type of scrambled eggs this morn – coffee eggs. Long story. 😛

    das

  9. I definitely will give an opportunity to:DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

    @ Mike from Canada
Im with you. Scarlet can’t use more then 10 percent of her brain.

  10. By the way, didn’t Stargate also use the “we only use 10% of our brain” trope?
    Or am I misremembering?

  11. Although The Purge was an okay movie, what it had going against it was the simple fact the low budget worked against it(And in some ways the writing too lol). With a bigger budget and a tighter script it could have been a fantastic movie.

  12. Oh and speaking of Hercules, I’ll watch it, but to me the best Hercules was the Kevin Sorbo one, the old tv series. It was corny but it was a good kind of corny. And in some ways enjoyable despite not being that serious.

  13. Talk about big shoes to fill, what about this!!??

I mean, he shot an arrow into the Sun and BLEW IT UP! Wait, that’s a terrible idea. (I wonder who they’re getting to play Newt?)

Yeah. Anyway, I’m disappointed that Morgan Friedman is attaching his name that that other movie – the one about the girl who’s “transporting” stuff. That Luc Besson name sounds familiar…

  14. Man I miss Herc, many fond memories of Herc/Xena saturdays. I went to a Sorbo panel and he was just so funny, so gracious to his fans and full of energy.

My brother forced me to watch The Purge and ended up liking it. If there really was a purge I wouldn’t last the first five minutes, mind you.

I’m up for Lucy and the Apes; Ceasar kicks ass. I see all of Luc Besson’s movies, always hoping for another Nikita, Professional or Taken. I hated Fifth Element but I still watch the whole thing everytime it airs.

  15. i’m probably one of the few people who thinks that melissa mccarthy just isn’t that funny.

What’s it’s got going against it: Hercules? Who cares?

another strike against it? dwayne “the former rock” johnson.

    to sylvia:
the name of that trek episode was the return of the archons.
    http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/The_Return_of_the_Archons_%28episode%29

    to Randomness &shinyhula:
the ’90s version of hercules was entertaining (except for the ones set in modern times. i hated those) as was xena. plus it had great locations in new zealand.

  16. I love. Melissa McCarthy, but you’re so right, she needs great material like Bridesmaids. She’s wonderful at adlibbing. But the premise still needs to be good.

Thanks for doing these previews, much appreciated! Apes is the one I’m most looking forward to, based on gone first one and the fact they don’t shrink from the ethical issues.

  17. oh Joe picking on a movie because it using 10% brain myth, something the stargate franchise use for the ancient, remember.
