Headache.  Nausea.  Fatigue.  I’m either coming down with something, ate something that didn’t agree with me, or that painful ouchie I assumed was a splinter was actually the bite of some bizarre, possibly radioactive, spider.

1I forget now.  What were the symptoms Peter Parker experienced after his accident?  Headache, nausea and fatigue – and then eventually super-strength, super-agility, and wall crawling ability?  I don’t feel all that stronger.  In fact, just the opposite.  And I haven’t tested any new leaping ability for fear I may vomit.  Hey, maybe this is what spidey sense feels like.  Maybe it’s warning me about something…  Something. But what?

Maybe the fact that I’m coming down with something!

I took a little nap this afternoon and ended up experiencing a fever dream that, ironically, went – more or less – something like this:

Replace that insect guy with Zenith the albino and that was pretty much it.

Tonight, Akemi prepared dinner – the perfect meal for an ailing boyfriend with stomach problems:

Congee
Congee
And pork belly.
And pork belly.

Finally, we did manage to make it out for a few hours this morning so let’s cap this blog entry with some pics of the dogs at the park:

  1. sub quantum ultra vibrational healing thoughts your way. Sorry your weekend is being bummered out. Appreciate you managing to take the pictures of the dogs though. Bubba in particular looks like he’s having fun.

  2. Sorry you’re not feeling well, Joe. Get better soon.
Ever think that sometimes you just eat too much food?!
    ;-). Jo

  3. Get better soon Joe!

And I agree about Bubba, out of all the dogs, it looks like Bubba is smiling a ton. Looks verys happy there.

  4. Ugh. Sorry you’re sick, Joe. I’m sick, too, but with a double ear infection. In fact, I’m heading back to bed. Hope you’re on the mend soon.

  5. Sorry you feel like crap, might have been something you ate(hmmm), or was someone around you under the weather and shared. either way, I hope you are on the mend soon. I hear you have an excellent nursing staff at your house. Congee looks good for you.

  6. Oh my gosh are you alright now? After what all you ate on Akemi’s birthday, I’d be afraid you ate one of those worms Das is always talking about. Hope you get to feeling better. If not, don’t forget it could be a worm, so be sure to tell the emergency doctors that.

  7. I hope you’re feeling better soon, Joe! Bad oysters, perhaps? Although, I consider them ALL bad so maybe that’s not a good measure. Was there anything else that only you ate, if no one else seems affected? I hope it’s not the flu like I had a couple of months ago that almost had me convinced that I was, in fact, dying.

    Great dog pics!

  8. Holy crap!! That staircase was in my nightmares as a child… when it came on the screen I got goosebumps…

…and I must still have been recovering from that when I read “Finally, we did manage make out for a few hours” and I thought, “well that’s a little too much information there Mallozzi”… then I reread it *blushes*

Congee and pork belly look great, makin’ me hungry!!

    K

  9. You better hope I never come to Canada, because if I ever do, I’m taking Lulu home with me! She is soooo cute! Got to get me one of those dogs!

  10. Heh. 🙂

Zenith gave me a fever dream, too. But, ya know…I’m a girl. 😉 Oh, wait…did you read THAT story already?! 😮 Oh, my…that just might explain everything then… 😳

What kind of congee is that? I make a really good one with rice and chicken and about a 4″ piece of ginger, grated. Fixes ya up real good! (Sometimes I add a few veggies like diced celery and carrots, and maybe garlic, depending on my mood). I make mine a little thicker, one cup of rice to about 6 cups of water. When serving, I usually sprinkle a goodly amount of nanami togarashi on top to give it an added kick. It’s very yummy and I eat waaaaay more than I should in on sitting. 😛

(Quick question – what is the diff between shichimi & nanami togarashi, if any. Thankies!)

Hope you feel better, Joe. Believe it or not, when my belly isn’t happy I very slowly sip a little bit of Jäger. Veeeery slowly. But it really only works if your stomach is unhappy with something you ate. If it’s some sort of bug I wouldn’t risk it.

  11. G’day

I agree, it was something you ate. Maybe a bad oyster. You did seem to be having quite a few yesterday…mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm???

    or as majorsal said, pregnant.

  12. Hope you’re feeling better soon. To tell you the truth, if I wasn’t ill, the fat in the pork bellies would soon fix that. You must have a very strong constitution and I’m sure it won’t be long before you’re out and about with Akemi and friends enjoying food again.

I am looking forward to the weather warming up. I thought we were well on the way, but this morning the temp dropped and we got a smattering of snow. Once the fairs and farmers’ markets start up, though, I will take a leaf out of your book and start enjoying all the food (well, some of it, anyway…) Let me know how to put pictures up.

  13. Early in a tummy bug your small intestine sheds its cilia in an effort to…this is where I spaced out while my doctor was talking. Anyway, it means you have to heal that back up before food moves surely in the right direction again. Taunting that mess with the bile that gets produced to digest fatty foods is foodie heroism.

  14. I’ve retired from attempting to diagnose other people’s symptoms. I’m almost always wrong. However, whatever it is, ginger helps. So good on you there. Hope you feel better soon. And I couldn’t think of a better personal nurse than Akemi.

  15. LOL@ Sal.

Hope you feel better soon Joe. <3 How lucky you are to have someone there to take care of you. 🙂

  16. Happy Birthday, Akemi! It looked like a fabulous day. But then every day looks great in your world! joe, when my stomach hurts, I eat yogurt as the cultures seems to soothe my stomach. Also I wonder if maybe you are stressed or facing a big decision? I remember reading these same symptoms like a year ago and then a few weeks later we learned you were offered a job in Toronto? mmmmmmmmm? I know that our stress can go right to the stomach. just saying.

  17. Feverish, headache, and fatigue are usually signs that the body is fighting an infection. Nausea could be from something you ate, not saying it’s food poisoning but just saying…

  18. I vote for pregnant. :p With Akemi as your nurse, I’m sure you will feel better in a jiffy.

  19. I would go with the suspicious evil oyster here as well… hope u recover soon ! such a pain, but at least it is Sunday and u can lie down in bed 🙂
Hey! Glad to see Jelly out and about!! yay!! I hope her adictive issues are over now 🙂 You two swapped roles here! 🙂
Take care and use it as an excuse to get spoiled by Akemi!! I am sure she loves spoiling you! 🙂 xox

  21. Sucks to be the sickie, I was ailing last month and it was no fun, feel better. Hot tea with cayenne and ginger, or lemon and ginger will soothe your throat.

Alyssa Milano is sick with envy at how fabulous Lulu looks in her sporty jersey . Btw my second attempt at sugar/carb free brownies was another flop. It tasted like those punishment loafs they serve to supermax prisoners who lose their meal priviledges.

I think the bug just came from being out and about; most everyone I know has a cold or is just getting over one.

  22. Hope you feel better today.
Cause ya gotta get busy with the other 13 days of birthday for Akemi. Especially after she took good care of you.

By the way, the 14 days of birthday are not necessarily consecutive. Birthday Girl can pick and choose.

By the way if you do discover you are pregnant, please call Ripley….there may be real money involved where you could then fund for your projects or something Stargate.

  23. How’s the belly feeling today, Joey? Still on rice and broth, or are you ready to tackle brains and gonads again?

If I didn’t know any better, based on your diet I’d swear you’re something right out of the X-Files

    😉

  24. Lulu is a Saints fan?!? I never would have guessed, but I guess I can see the logic of her not going for the Ravens (that whole small dog/bird of prey thing maybe?). And as for the Raiders, well they probably look just a little too much like mad dg catchers. And maybe Ivon is a Saints fan???

    @Joe:

I’m certainly praying you feel better. Get plenty of rest and get well soon! There seems to be a lot of bugs (stomach and otherwise) flying around this spring.

On fever dreams, mine are never about evil characters…mine are just stupid. Usually in my dream I’m trying to fix something (it’s mostly unclear what I’m trying to fix) and something nonsensical keeps me from doing it, like “I can’t fix this piece because I have soap in my pocket”. Must be some hidden engineer’s anxiety. 😉

  25. I hope this finds you progressing and not regressing (on Sunday). There seems to be two things going around. Patrick has caught both with a week break in between. Of course, I’m waiting to get the second thing he has having made it through the first thing he had. Agree that ginger is great for nausea. Sleep for the fatigue. Caffeine, acetaminophen, and/or ibuprofen for the headache. And hugs from all of us to you.
