Today, we set aside an hour to talk stories – specifically, the back half of SGU’s first season. Okay, okay. I think that, this time, I’ve got it right. Space shoots next in the #11 slot, followed by Divided in the #12 slot, and then Faith in the #13 slot (Carl promises to have his pass out before week’s end). #14 is the Rush-centered freelance script that Rob will eventually jump on (as he’ll be assuming directing duties on this one). Marty G. is still working on the outline for #15. #16 is another freelancer script and, after much discussion, we’ve finally hammered out a structure for the story. #17 is the Rob-pitched idea that sounds like a story right up Brad’s alley. Still awaiting word on who’ll be doing the honors on this one. Carl steps into the #18 slot with the story we just discussed today. This one looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun and Carl is looking forward to it. Finally, Paul and I are going to start thinking about #19 and #20 as it now looks like we’ll be the ones to put the capper on SGU’s inaugural season.

Yesterday, we all gathered in the writers’ room to watch the opening credits to the premiere – and, more importantly, listen to Joel Goldsmith’s incredible score. An awe-inspiring effort by Mr. Goldsmith coupled with some kick-ass impressive visuals make for a stirring opening. Hey, Joel, if you‘re reading this – and chances are you just might be – congratulations and well done. Brian, David, and Louis were there to check it out as well and loved it too. Terrific.

So the other day, Director Peter Deluise forwarded me an email that had found its way into his inbox, figuring it might be the sort of thing I’d find interesting. It read:

“Hello,

How are you doing?hope all is well, I”m sorry that i didn’t inform you about my traveling to England for a Seminar.I need a favour from you as soon as you receive this e-mail because i misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel where my money is and other valuable things were kept, i will like you to assist me with a loan urgently. I will be needing the sum of 1000pounds to sort-out my hotel bills and get myself back home.I will appreciate whatever you can afford to help me with, i’ll pay you back as soon as i return.

Kindly let me know if you can be of help? so that i can send you the details.

Your reply will be greatly appreciated

Lee Ann”

Poor, poor Lee Ann. Unfortunately, I’m not really in a position to provide much help. Fortunately, I know someone who is and forwarded him Lee Ann’s plea. He wrote back:

“Hello Dere,

Cookie Monster not remember where know Lee Ann from. Me tinks it at Grover barBQ last summer but not sure becuz meet lot of prostitoots dat night. Which one you? Eiffel Tower, Reverse Cowgirl, Portugese Breakfast, Hot Buttered Popcorn (Trademark Grover, All Rights Reserved), Romanian Salt Shaker (Trademark Grover, All Rights Reserved), Ricky-Ticky-Turn-Table, Agitated U-Boat Commander Wit Twist of Lime (Trademark Grover, All Rights Reserve), or Peruvian Teeter-Totter? Cookie Monster no can remember.

Me can send money, but maybe better if drive down and give you lift instead. Cookie Monster could use vacation. Where you at? Iz hot? You recommend flipflops and shavedown? Let monster know.

Love,

Cookie Monster”

Cookie anxiously awaits her response.

Hey, I just brainstormed a brilliant food creation driving back from dinner tonight. It’s a doughnut with a nutella center. I’d call it a donutella. I’m looking for investors.

Finally, I’d like to present the award to best ever lyrics to Britney Spears for her song If U Seek Amy: “Ha ha hee hee ha ha ho.”. Seriously. It’s like it would’ve been too much trouble to come up with actual words that rhyme with “oh” and “go” so she just gave up: “Look, forget it. I’m hungry. Let’s just go with ha ha ho ho ha ha hee hee and go to Jack in the Box.”

Oh, and check out today’s video: Brie flushes Lulu out.

P.S. What did you think I was going to talk about?

77 thoughts on “June 3, 2009: Scrappy Dogs. Okay, I Think I Got It Right This Time. Well Done, Mr. Goldsmith. Cookie Monster’s Good Turn. The Donutella. And WTF is ha ha hee hee ha ha ho?

  1. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Universe sounds great. Now how about some update on that seemingly never-coming SG-1 movie?

  2. PS…Brie is adorable! When are you gonna puppynap her and keep her for yourself?

Okay – I have to admit – I don’t understand the appeal of nutella. Perhaps it’s because I don’t like nuts in my sweets (and peanut butter and jelly doesn’t count, since peanuts are a legume). But no nuts in my ice cream, cakes, cookies, brownies…nope, just doesn’t appeal to me. I eat nuts all the time – by themselves, or in salads. But not in my desserts!

Well, except for dark chocolate-covered almonds…those things are to DIE for! And pecan pie. And dates, stuffed with walnuts and rolled in sugar…and…

okay – so I do like SOME nuttysweet combos. Heh. Must be why I like you, Joe. 🙂 Have a good evening, sir!

  3. Thank you for so NOT deciding to talk about what seems to be the latest buzz about a certain show and two gentlemen sharing a common first name. though come to think of it, perhaps the video is your way of addressing the latest comments. Leaving it to the viewers to determine which of the dogs is a surrogate for who and what all the yapping and running about really mean…
Always glad to see Cookie Monster making an appearance. As for investing in your donutella idea, I would, but I’m busy polishing off the fine points of my own culinary invention, the Stewffle. I’ve settled on lamb stew to go with the chocolate souffle. Just some minor issues about cooking the lamb adequately, and keeping the souffle from collapsing with the stew in the center….
thanks for the video and the laughs. Oh, yea, and for the Universe updates. Though to be honest, my eyes just start glazing over at this point. I’ll just wait till the show finally airs and then regret not paying attention…

  4. “P.S. What did you think I was going to talk about?”

I didn’t say a word. Did you even notice?

  5. Why, food, of course! And, hoped for some pixies of the little ones, and you delivered! That twitter entry is priceless. Now to try a Donutella, which should be scrumptuous.

  6. P.S. What did you think I was going to talk about?”

As I posted right before this entry went up, I knew it was something GOOD.

And it was! Thank you for all the SGU info! Funny story: I thought I’d stop asking about SGU for a bit just so I don’t overreach, but you ended up answering what I wanted to ask anyway! It’s a good day!

Holy crap, the Donutella; not only does it have a build in fanbase of Donut-lovers, nutella-lovers, and hard-of-hearing-Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtle-lovers, it also sounds heavenly! If I had money, I would totally endorse it. It’s about time donuts are filled with something other than just jam! Or Purple!

    Ok, questions:

    1. Is episode 16 the “story in limbo” you talked about on May 30th? And is it written by yet another freelancer, different from those who wrote #13 and #14?

    2. Is Paul writing the season finale?

    3. Got any more episode titles you can reveal to us?

    4. Will “Air” have a different open credit sequence than the rest of the season, ala. Rising and the rest of SGA Season 1?

    5. That video was very cute (the pugs were like, “WTF are those hyper little guys doing now?!” before kinda joining in themselves), but do you ever worry that they’ll hurt themselves like this? I mean, I see a lot of biting and gnawing and stuff like that; what if they break the skin or something?

Sorry, I’m just naturally pessimistic when it comes health matters. Das will understand. 😉

  7. Cute vid of the dogs, Joe, shall we find out someday the mysterious owner of Brie?
I can’t wait for fall now, I loved Joel Goldsmith’s music for Atlantis. But a clarification, was the opening you watched special just for the premiere (like the Rising opening), or the opening for all the regular episodes?
And looking at the other comments, I suspect there’s something wacky going on the world. Or it’s global warming. Or a touchstone. Anyways, I wouldn’t have thought it’d be so hot up in Vancouver. Especially when it was cold down here near Los Angeles. And cloudy. And grey. And there was rain and thunder and lightning! Hope you’re keeping cool up there.

  8. Hot in Vancouver? I’m sorry. Here in beautiful Central California is was in the low 80’s with a light breeze. My neighbor called it “Chamber of Commerce” weather. If it would only last all summer. I am sure the farmers wouldn’t care for it too much, but the rest of us would have the best summer ever. We just can’t wait for those >100 degree days.
Anyway, the dogs are too cute. How are they with cats or have they had that experience yet?
Loved your review of the Asian restuarant. Sounds like my kind of food.
    Thanks Joe, BlondieChemGirl

  9. LMAO! Trying to get investors for Donutella. Go ahead, make my day. — No, really, it’s Cookie Monster’s email to Lee Ann; it’s hilarious. (Shame on me, because now I can’t get an X-rated version of Sesame Street puppetry [and their swinging friends, The Muppets] out of my head. But it’s your fault.) And after you quoted the Britney Spears lyrics, I had to wonder if Lee Ann and Britney might be related. It sounds like I’m missing out on a lot, and should consider changing my car’s radio-station presets. Mm-hmm. Ha ha hee hee ha ha ho! Put a pause before that final “ho,” and Eminem could do a cover version.

I’ll gladly second Thornyrose’s gratitude for your declining to discuss a steadily declining discussion. I don’t follow all that stuff too closely; just don’t see any point in doing so. It makes me feel like Clouseau’s boss in the Pink Panther movies. (Besides, my OCD drive is already full.)

If Thornyrose can perfect her Stewffle recipe — and may I say that it sounds like a winner to me — you two should probably start up something in the frozen-food line. “We know you want to give your family the comfort food they crave with the touch of elegance YOU deserve,” etc. (Entitlement is everything these days. – Oh yeah, you already knew that. Sorry.) But maybe you should wait until the government finishes bailing out everyone else, just in case.

Love the pooches. Looks like Lulu’s met another alpha female.

  10. Hey Joe,

When you put ‘wtf does ha ha ha ho ho ho hee hee’ mean’ in the title, I thought you were going to talk about that very cryptic post you put up about your discussion with SyFy and the apparant ban on new SGU photos. I’m still puzzled over that one.

    details details details….

In the SG-1 S.7 episode ‘Fragile Balance’ w/ the O’Neill clone, Thor mentions how O’Neill is the next step of the human evolutionary path, presumably because of the Ancient gene he does posses, but Thor allllso said that they hadn’t found a human quite advanced genetically yet that would be the real help to the Asgard… or Loki… ORRRRR the rebel Asgard.

Presuming that the Atlantis movie will be rebel Asgard focussed (you’ve leaked the replicator story is at rest, and that the movie will not be Wraith focused, and Michael is presumed dead and it would be a HUGE stretch to return him for a film, that leaves only one logical choice), a few questions arise –

Is Sheppard the person “advanced” enough in the rebel Asgard’s eyes to be of significant importance to them?

(small hope for a spoiler) Will Sheppard be confronted by the Asgard?

  11. RE: the weather
Today in Vancouver it was in the low 30’s, which, for all you southern neighbours, is about the low 90’s I think. It’s not super humid though, which is nice, and there’s often a nice breeze off the water. Still rather odd, but I’m not complaining 😀

@Quade: RE twitter, you mentioned Strom, which I hadn’t picked up, and isn’t he the head of the IOA? The guy who’s going to be played by Carlo Rota (24)?

    Joe,

    Odd story today:
It started sunday afternoon when we noticed that we could smell smoke up near our house, and a while later it started being very visible – origninating at some house below us in the BP’s… And this wasn’t just a little bit if smoke: it was actually obscuring Vancouver, and went on for *hours*. Well, they had a story in the North Shore News, and it turs out (this is where it gets kind of weird) that the people had started a fire in their fireplace that morning and it spread.
Now, for everyone who wasn’t in Vancouver, it was pretty damn hot on sunday!
So who in the world starts a fire in very hot, sunny weather?!?! My guess is they were burning evidence. Or roasting marshmallows. On a sunday morning.
Anyway, they’d put the fire out, but apparently an ember got out of the chimney onto the roof, and they saw the fire on the roof and put it out with a hose then noticed fire sounds coming from the ceiling and called the Fire Dept.
The West Van Fire Dept. knew it was bad and called in off-duty firemen *and* district of North Van firemen. They ended up with 25 firemen with 7 trucks, and it took them 3 hours to get the blaze out. Firefighters were on-scene until 8am *monday* continuing to put out small blazes.

Did you know provincial building codes say everyone’s supposed to get their chimney(s) inspected once a year? Apparently the fire started because the chimney was out of code.

So not only is there > $400 000 dollars damage to the house, but, as per West Van bylaw, they may end up also paying the Firefighters’ overtime….

Moral of the story: get your chimneys checked. And don’t start a fire in the middle of the summer

  12. Is it just me or do they dogs look like rabbits at one point…*shakes head*…must remember to wake up before watching vids…LOL

    Kriss 🙂

  13. Wow.. and that’s what I get for missing out on reading for a few days >.>

Nutella: – one of man’s most ingenious creations. Maybe if you dipped the Destiny and her Crew in a vat of the stuff, i’d be tempted to sample the new show? 😀

“P.S. What did you think I was going to talk about?” – Oh, I don’t know.. How about Japan’s use of research when substantiating their growing number of Whale culls? Or the French snubbing of Queenie and her offspring? Or perhaps even that we’re due to vote on our MEP’s today and (for the majority of the population) can see a resurrection of Guy Fawkes on the cards?

    No?

    How about Rugby then?

Das: Did you see any of the World Sevens Series?

Actually, Joe.. I do have a question. And despite your – as yet – unbroken track record in ignoring them, i’m still gonna ask: In “Letters from Pegasus”, we see a huge, steady beam that seems to be emanating from one of the Hives in orbit and centering on the planet being culled. What’s this for? Is it some kind of Wraith elevator/fireman shoot, that allows them quick and easy access to the planet? Or, do the Drones on the ground perhaps use it to pick up their unwitting Victims and toss them blithely into? I know Shep goes to investigate it, but we never get a definative result on what he finds. And howcome it’s never mentioned again in any other episode or season?

Oh.. and for the record: Joe v Joe..

One’s too suave and sophisticated. And the other’s simply too cool. Mud Wrestling in a tub of Nutella, guys.. 😉

  14. I cant wait to see the premiere of Stargate Universe.

Ive been a die hard Atlantis fan since its launched and obviously not happy when it was cancelled, but im willing to give universe a chance.

    Any more sneak peaks Joe?

  15. Here’s a question I can’t recall if you’ve answered (so pardon if you have!): will the SGU premiere be two hours as SG1 and SGA’s were? And do you know if it will air continously, or as separate episodes (I wasn’t watching at the airing of the previous two’s premieres to know the precedent)?

    Your dogs are so cute!!

  16. Questions:

    1. You said previously that you aren’t up on the progress of the Stargate Worlds game…Does this mean you’ve heard nothing about them promoting/sponsoring during the launch of SGU (not that I have, but it’d make sense marketing wise)?

    2. Were you ever brought in as a sort of creative consultant early in the game’s development?

    3. How damn awesome is it working with Robert Carlyle?! He’s legitimately one of my favourite actors, a brilliant choice in my book.

    4. This may be a repeat…but will the elusive ‘Furlings’ make any kind of appearance in SGU, be it reference or otherwise?

  17. Didn’t think about what you were going to write as I didn’t really thorouly read that long headline. I was more interested in the clip 😛
I so love cookie monsters replies to certain EMails that tend to find heir way into our boxes. I’m way to scared to answer them. No idea what I could do by answering. Had to many internetmishaps to be that bold 😉
Anyways I really hope there’s going to be an answer from Lee Ann 😉

  18. Hey Joe,

I hope Cookie Monster gets a response.

Lou Diamond Phillips is on that show, “I’m A Celebrity! Get Me Out of Here!” He actually stuck his hand in a jar to grab a star and was bitten by rats several times.

Did you happen to watch that?

    Trish

  19. Is LuLu much older than Brie? She had a face on her like my dog used to when young wippersnappers came up and wanted to play with her. The ‘I really cannot be bothered with this. HELP ME!’ face. Love it!

  20. @Tammy: OK. Maybe you have a roach phobia but it’s for good reason. That’s a terrifying story. Roaches falling out of ceiling tiles? Ew! Ew! Ew!

I don’t think I could have been made to go back in there. You are braver than I am! But now I’m wondering if roaches really are faster than spiders. My problem with some spiders is that they’re not only huge (we grow ’em big in Florida) but they can be really fast. I suppose roaches are usually moving faster than spiders, though.

Basically, I see your point. 🙂

@Nadine: My dogs are mountain dogs built for sitting out in the snow. I sometimes feel guilty for making them live in Florida. They would be thrilled to live in Vancouver where I could take them to the mountains to see snow. They’ve never seen snow or mountains. However, as soon as I feel guilty about that, one of them will flop onto a comfy spot somewhere, flip onto his or her back and groan with pleasure. Then I realize they are spoiled rotten monsters fully enjoying the A/C. 😀

And yes, it’s great you’ve come to the party that is sci-fi. 😀 Better late than never.

  21. Hi Mr M!!

Love the idea of a donut-ella…very nice indeed. Thanks for the updates re: SGU…and speaking of Mr Goldsmith…Any sign of the Q and A??? I know he is probably INSANELY busy at the mo with all the projects…

    Best to all

    Shirt’n’Tie

  22. Cute vid. Brie certainly enjoys chewing on Lulu (who doesn’t seem to mind a bit.)

And I’ll have to try the email approach to sorting out my bills after my next vacation.

  23. Thanks for the video, Joe! Brie is a riot, demanding that Lulu come out and play NOW! Does she prefer to play with Lulu or is Lulu the only one willing to engage in puppy play?

I always have enjoyed Joel Goldsmith’s scores and I’m looking forward to hearing this one too.

@das: Have you ever tried Nutella? It has a wonderfully smooth creamy texture with a delightful hazelnut chocolate taste. If you like the flavor but not the texture of nuts you might want to give it a try.

@ Joe: I put Nutella in my croissants, but inside donuts might be good, too – as long as the donut batter isn’t too sweet. Could you whip up a batch and bring them on down to Chicago? I couldn’t possibly invest without sampling the product. 🙂

  24. I heard about a similar lost wallet story that was posted on someone’s facebook page.

    http://wjz.com/local/facebook.scam.2.932119.html

I believe, Criminals would be successful if they just applied all that creativitiy/diligence to a legal career.

    Cute vd!

It’s rainy/chilly 81 degrees (F) temp here. Weird, it’s usually close to 100 degrees this time of year in the south.

I feel awful this morning. Time for an aleve tablet and to work out this soreness in the pool.

Hope everyone has a good Thursday (or whatever day it is where you are).
    Tam

  25. Hi Joe, the pups are adorable – I love the way Jelly and Bubba just look on while Lulu’s getting slammed by Brie. We had a little dog incident here last night. Remember Flannery the”dying” Greyhound? Well, she’s put most of the weight she’d lost back on and is 100% piss and vinegar. Poor Molly, who had a dental and some minor surgery last week, spend a terrible few days with strangers coming in and out of the house (tiling the bedrooms), furniture getting moved, that sort of thing. She was a rescue from a puppy mill and has issues with loud noises and strangers, but is otherwise a healthy, happy girl. Last night, my son came over to help us move the bedroom furniture back into the bedrooms and made the huge mistake of dropping something, causing a semi-loud noise. Molly ran into Flannery’s bed, Flannery didn’t like it, grabbed Molly by the head and gave her a good shake-down. I freaked out, grabbed the Greyhound and literally held her jaws open while I shook out the Cocker. Molly was screaming (or as much as she can scream, seeing how those bastards at the puppy mill “de-bark” dogs as a regular thing) and I’m thinking howlong it’ll take us to get to the emergency room. Thankfully, all was well, nobody got hurt, but it sure looked awful. The Wraith should fear old Greyhounds, I tell ya!

I’d missed a couple of days of really reading the blog (just skimmed) because I was basically living in the Batcave (all furniture and contents of both bedrooms in living and dining rooms) and was surprised to see how quickly things can change. The whole Joe Flanigan thing was a bit unsetlting. As I recall, not too long ago you said you had always worked with really nice people, so I guess I don’t understand where any of this is coming from. Glad I didn’t bid on having cocktails with him in Chicago, I can just imagine the conversations that will be going on there. No, thanks! Instead, I’ll be having lunch with Michael and dinner with Connor. Easy! Oh yeah, if you see Michael, please tell him to be gentle with me 😉 Have a good day!

  26. Hmm, episode 13 is Faith… that’s the perfect setup for a lame superstition related joke.
(And if I’d ever watched a certain show (which I haven’t, nor do I have any interest in watching) then I might make a humourous reference to Eliza Dushku. Vampires really aren’t my thing. Though I don’t mind Nikola Tesla… uh oh, I’m about to start rambling unless I stop typing now. Maybe I should close the parenthesis and submit the comment before… oops, completing this sentence will just add to the rambling and therefore… nevermind.)

  27. “listen to Joel Goldsmith’s incredible score”

Joel Goldsmith? Son of Jerry Goldsmith? He’s the composer for Stargate?

    See what I miss when I don’t slavishly study every credit… 🙂

  28. I am totally convinced that pg15 is on a one-man mission to update Stargate’s wiki pages on a daily basis.

    😉

    das

  29. Hello Joe!
I just have a quick questions…are Lulu and Brie’s tails docked? If so, is that still legal in Canada?? Here in Australia we aren’t allowed to dock our dogs tails anymore…which is a pity considering the damage my dog Bill’s tail does when it hits not only ourselves but the walls. Bill is a Mastiff cross so I guess technically he isn’t one of those breeds that would normally have their tails docked but I have the bruises to show how dangerous his tail can be.
Ok, I guess that questions wasn’t as quick as I thought. Sorry.
Love the dog videos though. Keep em coming.
    Cheers,
    Chelle

  30. Hi Joe, a few questions.

How is a freelance writers script able to fit in the main themes/arcs of the show? Can I assume a freelance script will be more of a standalone episode? Do the freelancers get to read the script that lead up to their episode? How do they know the characters well enough to write for them, considering the show is more serialized than the previous two Stargates.

  31. Gee I don’t know Joe that If U Seek Amy could beat Life by Des’ree:

    I’m afraid of the dark,
‘specially when I’m in a park
    And there’s no-one else around,
    Ooh, I get the shivers
    I don’t want to see a ghost,
    It’s a sight that I fear most
I’d rather have a piece of toast
    And watch the evening news

Someone got a rhyming dictionary for Christmas? I loathe that song.

I can’t wait for the reply from Lee Ann. You know if the short story doesn’t work out you could have a future developing Sesame Street After Dark. Agitated U-boat commander – do I even wanna know?

Joel rocks – I’m sure the music will be awesome. Are there lyrics? I kinda like these ones:

Just sit right back & you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailing man, The skipper brave & sure.
Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour,
    A three hour tour

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
    The Minnow would be lost,
    The Minnow would be lost.

The ship’s a-ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
    With Gilligan,
    The Skipper too,
    The millionaire and his wife,
    The movie star
    The Professor and Mary Ann
    Here on Gilligan’s Isle.

    Cheers, Chev

p.s. Why does Lulu put up with that rubbish? She should have put Brie in her place, shouldn’t she? Got me wondering, what is the pack order with your lot? Note: This is all coming from a non dog owner.

  32. Bonjour Joseph! ça va ? Moi oui!!

  33. Bonjour,

Sorry if my translation are bad…

Tout d’abord sachez que même en France des gens suivent votre blog! Comme moi…

First know that even in France people follow your blog! As me…

1- Est ce que le générique de Universe seras court comme celui parodié dans l’épisode 200 de SG-1 ou la fin de la saison 5 d’Atlantis, ou un ”long” comme SG-1?

9-I love your dogs, specially Maximus, and the photos which you take of your meals are tempting!!

    Merci Bonne continuation!

  34. Hallo Joe,
I don’t know what you was going to talk about, but I have a few more questions.

    1. Are there any news when atlantis movie will be shoot?
    2. Will Larin be in the movie?

    I really enjoy your blog!

    Have a nice day!

    Kathi

  35. @ David – 😆 I’ve always wondered if you do shake hands with a Wraith, would their feeding thingy try to suck on your palm, kinda like little kisses? Hey, JOE – maybe YOU can answer that!! 😀

@ Perragrin – *huggles* Good to see ya! I’ve been watching a bit of rugby – but that darn Joe has me reading BOOKS, and so all of my tv viewing is down. I recorded a couple matches last weekend, haven’t gotten to them yet. And no, I didn’t watch the World 7s, but saw it was on. Just no time right now. And my satellite channel (Setanta Sports) is showing a lot of Aussie Rules right now – and the State of Origin (rugby league) match – I did watch that yesterday morning as I was getting ready for work. Not as found of rugby league, but State of Origin is awesome!

@ Sparrow_hawk – Oh, I LOVE nuts…but mostly, as nuts. By the handfuls, out of a can/jar/bag…or from a big basket, where I can break them open and nibble on them throughout the evening. Love hazelnuts – out of the shell. But I don’t care for hazelnut-flavored things…like coffee, and desserts. I’ve had nutella, and I wasn’t impressed.

However, I do love MINT…especially with chocolate! 😀

    das

  36. *fond…not as FOND of rugby league…

‘Tis the week for typos. 😛

    das

  37. @Das: Their “feeding thingy” should have a name, no? Curious to see what you would call it 🙂

  38. @das: Then you can eat my share of the chocolate mint and I’ll eat your share of the chocolate hazelnut stuff!

I understand that there is a different formula for Nutella in Europe. I may have to pick up a jar while I’m in Germany, if they have it there.

  39. Brie is so tiny yet she managed to pin poor Lulu like a WWF champ! Brie is just all kinds of cute. Are you dogs especially cute and playful or are all french pugs just naturally adorable? With my luck I’d get one at it would turn out to be the son of Cujo.

  40. Trish: Leaving the company was a definite possibility but they were trying to take care of the pest problem. Not only did we set off roach bombs but we had three different pest control companies (in succession) spray the building. It was unreal how many roaches were killed! Spiders are bad too, though. Florida has mega bugs of all kinds!

    Tam

  41. @ Deni – The unofficial name for the feeding thingy is ‘handgina’ – not sure who came up with that…

I will tell you why it is especially appropriate, based on one Wraith in particular. But, for the sake of the children, I’ll tell you in e-mail…

    😉

@ Sparrow_hawk – DEAL! And while you’re in Germany – pick me up some beer! 😀

    das

  42. Never thought I would say this, but…poor Lulu! Looks like Brie has an axe to grind with her. And Brie gets the others, (even Jelly – I’m shocked!) to join in and gang up on poor Lulu. What did Lulu do to deserve that? She was only laying in the shade probable eating bugs, and then she gets an earful of that big bark little pest. Lulu needs to have a “come to Jesus” meeting with Brie and let her know who will dish it out and who will take it.

These videos are the cutiest. I could watch them all day.(Brie’s getting big)

  43. Thanks for the cute video of the pups. Looks like it is pay back time for Lulu. I bet the other dogs are amused. So what is the status of Brie? Is she now a permanent resident? A frequent visitor on her way to become a permanent resident? Or just a frequent visitor?

  44. “Hey, I just brainstormed a brilliant food creation driving back from dinner tonight. It’s a doughnut with a nutella center. I’d call it a donutella. I’m looking for investors.”

Dude! Don’t reveal your awesome doughtnut idea on a public blog. Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme could be watching, Not to mention the entire vancouver Police Department. You’re now in danger of getting kidnapped and brought to some sort of evil underground doughnut factory where your brain will be probed to reveal The Secret Of The Donutella!!! 😮 (Is it strange I see a movie plot in all this nonsense?)

  45. Hi Joe,
I’ve been ready you blog since May, enjoy reading it, I think you have a great sence of humour.

Also think that you’re doing a marvelous job answering the mail especially when it comes to handle bad comments posted about the new project SGU and other. I admire the “coolness” of some of your answers.

    Re: SGU,
    1. how long is the filming of the first season expected to last?
2.Is it planned to start filming season 2 immediately after the filming of season 1 is completed?
    3. From what I could read, the actors have been working on the episodes since the beginning of February. If the filming of episode 11 has just started, ( meaning approximately 2 episodes and a 1/2 being shot each month), how do they avoid information overflow ?(doesn’t it feel at one point that it’s too much information to learn in such a short period of time. Assuming of course that each episode’s script is fairly long) .

  46. Donutellas: baked or deep-friend? Cake batter or risen yeast dough?

Cookie seem like fun! Such a thoughtful gentleman. Does he date robust and rotund older ladies whose husbands are out of town?

  47. @Chevron 7: ROFL!! 😆 Now I’ve got that song stuck in my head and will forever pair it with SGU. Soooo worth it. 😀

    @Tammy: You’re a braver woman than I am. 😯

  48. @ Das: *huggles backatcha*.. Missed ya too 😉

    What’s this with BOOKS?!!

I swear, you’re going soft on me, Das.. Letting Joe talk you into reading, rather than watching grown men scrabbling after balls. Still, I have to admit that I didn’t get to watch as much of the 7’s as i’d have liked. Things have been pretty hectic around here too – climbing season’s back and Jenks is just chewing his way through the front door, ready to find that perfect waterfall to drown in 😀 Aaaand, then there’s all the getting ready for Barcelona. Can’t believe I had to pay £72 for a new passport! AND I had to hand all that personal info over to the Government, just so they could lose it again. Meh..

Still want Chabal? Or will any long-haired Frenchie do? 😛

  49. Seriously, what are you supposed to do if Lulu wants to relax but Brie won’t leave her alone? Does Lulu have to stand up for herself or do you as Alpha Dog have to step in?

  50. @Le Francais

No need to provide English translations, though I guess that would save Joe time if he answers your questions.
(He usually provides a french to english translation for the readers here if somethings asked in french)

  51. Whenever I have nutella, I keep thinking I need more things I could put it on.

Update on Cookie’s character arc: Cookies are a “sometimes food” now. His memory seems pretty good to me, remember all those names, but, you know how folks are – able to remember what interests them.

@Das – I cannot express how disappointed I am to learn that about sharks. There’s a quest I should rewrite based on this information, but I choose to put my fingers in my ears and hum (drama trumps realism).

  52. @Trish: Do you get those big, thick spiders that move at warp speed? I found one in the tub in our old house (fracking woods, never again), had the courage to sort of hit it with something (yeah, I’m mean that way), grabbed a wad of TP and thinking it was dead, threw it in the toilet. The thing was all curled up and all of a sudden flew at me. Remember Goldie Hawn’s cockroach scene in the shower in “Bird on a Wire”? That was me.

  53. Trish (aka whovian) said:

@Chevron 7: ROFL!! 😆 Now I’ve got that song stuck in my head and will forever pair it with SGU. Soooo worth it. 😀

Just picturing a whole bunch of people watching the premiere and the opening credits roll and they start singing Gilligan’s Island theme. Something for the fan vid people. I’m sure you could easily tweak the lyrics.

    Cheers, Chev

    p.s. I knew you’d appreciate it.

  54. @ GateFanSamJack – Yeah…just imagine…all Jaws really wanted was a hug. 🙁

@ Perragrin – I miss Chabal – caught a match about a month (give or take) ago with him – and FINALLY saw my all-time fav, Justin Marshall, on whatever team he’s playing for now (he’s switched about 3 or 4 times since moving north from NZ).

As far as Frenchmen go – long hair and good looks work for me! Of course, my idea of good looks isn’t the same as most people 🙄 , but…well…you get the basic idea. Long hair, skinny, and kinda-sorta sickly looking…lol. Of course, I do like some guys with muscles – like Chabal – but usually muscly guys are a big turn-off for me…they look…smelly. Now, if I expect the guy to be smelly – like a rugby player, or Wolverine – that’s fine. But the average guy walking down the street? Nah…a muscle-bound guy rarely – if ever – catches my eye. But that guy who looks like this… *dies*:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/dasNdanger/longhair.jpg

    ONLY if he’s over 18, that is…

    (I truly forget how old I am sometimes… 😛 )

    Where was I???

Love the video, but I’m worried about Lulu being off alone and hiding behind the plants. Was it just because it was a hot day, or is she still feeling icky? I wish we could get another dog. I think it would be so much fun. Being that I got bad news about my job on Friday, the job I’ve had for 20 years, getting another dog would not be a frugal choice. So I’ll just enjoy yours. Thank you for sharing their antics.

  56. @ ChelleDeBoer : If I may answer that question: usually French Bulldogs (like Lulu and Brie) naturally have really short, curled-up tails, so it just looks like they’ve been docked. Our English Bulldog has the same thing. Her tail is so short you’d think it had been docked…

    @Trish:
Bella is *super* funny in the snow: this year we got a massive snowfall, and when Bella went out in the snow it was way taller than she is so she’d have to literally *swim* through it. She’d kind of go bounding along and each time she’d jump up she’d sink back down. Really amusing in powder 😀
I have a pic on my twitterpic thing of how much snow we had. I think it was probably the most snow we’ve ever had here. My dad is 6ft2 and when we shoveled the driveway he had to lift the shovels of snow up and over the banks because they were at least a foot or two taller than he is. The damn stuff lasted for *months*.
And I grew up watching Star Wars and stuff, ’cause my Dad’s always been a sci-fi fan, but like I said I only really came into it on my own recently. Have you always been a fan? When did you first start watching Stargate?

  57. The PS gets a gold star, I’m sure you’re overjoyed about it and are currently hanging it on an imaginary wall.

How about instead of a pizza with a cheese stuffed crust, that they put the same kind of filling that they put in doughnuts into it – that way once you’ve eaten the pizza you get to end on dessert. Once you’ve finished the microchip installed in the pizza box activates and remote dials for an ambulance – a whole nights entertainment rolled into one.

  58. Hey Joe, whatever happened to Joel’s Q&A? Are we still going to get it? I don’t want to be a pain, just wondering if/when. Have a good night 🙂

  59. Be honest now, Joe. How much has the latest from JF dampened your enthusiasm for the Atlantis movie?

  60. @ dovil – We had something like that in Kentucky. Pocket pie – dinner in one end, dessert in the other.

The trick would be finding a sweet filling that can handle the heat needed to bake pizza dough correctly. I’ve been experimenting with pizza dough and the sweet stuff candies or chars.

  61. did you guys see that sgu preview segment just shown on scifi (or whatever its called now). I am interested very interested.

  62. Joe – it is done. 😉 Thanks, much!

@ Narelle – Wait. Wot? Broken ribs?? Did I miss something??!

    das

  63. You should try asking Donatella for endorsement–The Donutella Versace!

Are there any plans to write unoffical lyrics to the SGU credits?
