To borrow a Gordon Ramsayism: “Stargate Atlantis Movie with satisfying conclusion…Done!”. Satisfying conclusion for who? Well, me for one. And, I suspect, for many fans as well although, of course, it goes without saying that you can’t please all of the people all of the time. Still, I’m very happy with the story we have and with our ending in particular. Some doors are opened, some slammed shut (rather violently), while others are left ajar for future exploration…in the next big adventure provided the fans support this one. Not quite as long as I expected but, given the action sequences, it still may clock in with a robust running time. Yes, all of the regulars and semi-regulars you’ve grown to know and love are in play – Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Ronon, Woolsey, Keller, Zelenka, Lorne, Beckett, Chuck, Banks, and Todd – in addition to a couple of surprise guest stars. But more on them as we draw closer to the that first day of principal photography. As for when that will be…no firm date yet but I’m still banking on a fall production alongside the SG-1 movie.

But this fall is a long way away. An even longer way away is Christmas 2009, yet Fondy has already booked our flight back to Montreal. All well and good provided we can find someone to watch the dogs. Failing that, I’ll be ringing in the New Year west coast style – sushi, chardonnay, and in bed by 11:00.

Tomorrow, I weigh in with my thoughts on this month’s final book of the month club selection: Poe: 19 New Tales Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, edited by Ellen Datlow. If you haven’t finished yet, get movin’. If you haven’t started yet – tsk, tsk. What’s your excuse?

Majorsal writes: “if you’re giving Deni B pictures of her daniel, how about pictures of my sam for me?”

Answer: Sorry, wasn’t on set to take pics of Amanda.

Dodecahedron writes: “1. Was that the real Ba’al who was extracted at the ceremony at the end of Continuum? If not, is the real Ba’al still alive?

2. If the 1st Atlantis movie doesn’t tie up the wraith storyline, will you guys eventually make a conclusion for the storyline? You know, the final defeat of the wraith like the ori and their followers had in AoT?

3. What’s with the lack of Ladon Radim in the second half of Atlantis’ series run (he hasn’t been around since episode 50). Do you think the Genii will ever have an important role in future movies?”

Answers: 1. In my mind, the real Ba’al is still out there. Brad may hold a different opinion though.

2. We’re not thinking past this first movie so am unable to answer that question.

3. Again, I can’t comment past this first movie.

PG15 writes: “Goodbye scene? Uh oh. Nothing good ever comes out of Goodbye scenes. Is it like “Goodbye, for I have to shuffle off my mortal coil” kinda thing?”

Answer: Could be a little of both.

2.Can you tell us how many people are there on the Destiny?30? 70? 100?”

Answers: 1.Yes, it’s certainly possible. 2. Nope.

Answer: Nope.

3. Is Andy Mikita directing Justice?

4. Will there ever be a Atlantis crossover in Universe?

5. Will Universe be more explicit(violence, language, sex etc…) than Atlantis and SG-1?”

Answers: 1.Although the air order remains the same, the production order has Life shooting next followed by Time. Rob is writing the script for the latter as we speak. Right, Rob?

2. That’s a question for Val Halverson, our Costume Designer.

3. Off the top of my head, I don’t know.

4. We have discussed the possibility.

5. Since all three air on the same network, they all follow the same network guidelines.

Suziesbluefeather writes: “My question is other than the obvious Foie Gras (I can’t do because we are going to be using them for breeding too so the raising method wont mess.) what ways do you like your duck and goose cooked?”

Answer: I like them roasted. The duck breast is especially good if you take the breast, score the fatty side, put some slivered garlic between the scored sections, season with sea salt, pepper, and thyme, then sear in a cast iron pan for a minute until golden brown and pop it in the oven to broil for about eight minutes. Once it’s done, set aside to rest and get rid of all but two tablespoons of the pan drippings. Toss in a chopped shallots, a couple of cloves chopped garlic, a cup of fresh pitted cherries and a cup of port. Cook over high heat until most of the liquid is cooked off – about ten minutes – then add a couple of cups of chicken stock. Reduce the heat to medium and let it cook for another 15 minutes until the sauce is thick. Add some butter, some salt and pepper, carve the duck, pour the sauce over top and voila = dinner!

  1. “Some doors are opened, some slammed shut (rather violently)…”

See…when I read stuff like that, I have to keep telling myself, “but Joe said, ‘I have a feeling you’ll especially enjoy the movie.'”

You better not be toying with me!!!

(Oh, and I discovered if I call the house phone with the cell phone, I can get on line! I am Wile E. Coyote – GENIUS!!! 😀 )

    Have a good evening, Joe.

    das

  2. Woo hoo!!! Its finished!!! Will be interesting to see where the story is taken, with the fact that Atlantis has come to earth… I guess the wraith get to earth… will be interesting to see how earth defends itself against them! I guess now Atlantis is on earth, there’s no reason we wont get to see some of the SG1 regulars!!!???

  3. Bonjour joseph!
    Vous allez bien? moi super!
Encore une journée bien remplit en ville pour moi, donc je me suis réveiller un peu plus tôt que d’habitude.

Alalaal sga me manque, j’espere que nous aurons vite une date pour le film.

    Question:

Certains personnages de SG1 vont apparaitre dans SGU, est t’il prévu que des personnages de SGA jouent aussi dans SGU?

    Bonne journée! Bisou

  4. The Atlantis movie is written and there may be more “provided the fans support this one”. No problem. Just tell me how much for the DVD and I’m first in line. I’m all in. I’m sure it will be great.

  5. Hey Das – Are you using a router by any chance??? We have the opposite problem… When the phone is in use, I cant use my computer… Has something to do with the cordless phone using the same frequency as the router, and so the router drops out when the phone is on use…

    Stupid hey!!!

    Dan

  6. Congratulations on the script!

Once it’s given the final okay, when would you need to know that the show’s a go, in order for the actors, director and crew to be signed on, and pre-production to start? In other words, how much longer do Atlantis fans have to be tortured waiting?

  7. joe/Answer: Sorry, wasn’t on set to take pics of Amanda.

oh, that’s alright, joe. you’ve gifted the fans with *many* amanda photos in the past, and i’ll always appreciate that. 🙂

  8. @ Daniel Willis – I have a dsl modem and a wireless router. The problem is with the modem – it just won’t stay connected to the dsl unless I have the phone on – and NOT the old-fashioned hard-wired line, but the wireless ‘walk-around-the-house’ line. It makes NO sense!

In the past I have been disconnected at times from the internet when a phone call comes in, but that’s because I don’t have the dsl filter-thingy on the phone line. Now I’m glad I don’t, or I’d never be able to connect! I…I think…

Of course, the modem did get knocked off the desk by a furryarsed putty tat this morning 🙄 , which might explain things. Still…why would it connect when the phone IS in use, and not when the phone line is free and clear?! It’s crazy, I tell ya! (I think Joe sent some of his spazzytech voodoo my way for bustin’ on him about his blackberry. 😛 )

  9. Oooh, I love the sound of slamming doors. Anticipating.

I just might try the enticing duck recipe, we have one decent meat market in town that will have duck. My herb garden is already loaded with thyme. Fresh cherries this time of year? Hmmm, you big city types sure are spoiled. Maybe I’ll wait a few months until we’ll have cherries out the wazoo at every roadside stand. No, cherries out the wazoo only cost extra in San Francisco.

Did read the book, how can I not read inspired by Poe? Just need to collect my thoughts. Rarer than fresh cherries these days, are my thoughts.

Couchsurfers from Oregon arrived this evening, bearing smoked fish and Tilamook cheese. Offering the guest room to random strangers off the internet is entertaining, intriguing and a little weird. I like it.

Do you have any good recipes involving fresh chives? Even this early, they’re up and naturalizing the northeast corner of my garden. Even the rhubarb is scared of them.

  10. Silly questions, here goes:

How long does it usually take you to finish a draft of a script? The one you just talked about seemed to go very fast. Also, if the script is mostly dialogue (at least to start with), how many words/pages are in a script of yours? One more: Do you conceptualize episodes/films as scripts or books/stories?

PS. Have you heard anything on who’ll be writing/directing the MacGyver movie? My fingers are crossed for someone (maybe you!) from the SG writing team.

  11. Das- That little bit has me worried too. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner, but the Wraith remind me of the Borg only with much more personality. OoO I gotta talk to you about an Atlantis episode I saw the other day. It has me totally confused about how the Wraith reproduce.

“Not quite as long as I expected but, given the action sequences, it still may clock in with a robust running time.”

Joe, when you say robust, how long are you talking? I think 3 hours would be cool so long as I’m kept on the edge of my seat.

  12. I, “fearless fans/potential volunteer”, volunteer to watch the dogs not just so you can get to Montreal , but if it allows you to get more SG stuff done, take over the world, and all the things along those lines, YAY!! This candidate is “honest, intelligent” (at least that’s what people say) but not “good with laser rifles” (is this going to disqualify me?) 🙂

  13. Ditto what Ponytail said: No problem. Just tell me how much for the DVD and I’m first in line. I’m all in. I’m sure it will be great. Or at lleast second in line behind Ponytail.

    Thanks for the update.
    The recipe sounds scrumptuous..yum!
Still trying to erase the images you posted the other day of your disaster lunch. You shudda took pics of the chocolate INSTEAD.

  14. Can we expect any RDA pics when you’re allowed to show some set pics? Pretty please with cream on top?

Also you may wanna get ready for that musical, not to jinx it or anything, but the Canucks are doing so much better than the Habs. 😉

  15. Woohoo! SGA movie great!

I can’t wait till Universe, I really hope it is more intense but I am glad it will still follow guidelines. Otherwise my family will not watch it (I probably would not either, and that would make me sad. :*-(
I personally am a fan of the Baal character. I really hope the human him will show up. Not so excited by the Goa’uld but I would like to see the actor again.

  16. Your news about the SGA movie sounds wonderful.
    8)
Something to look forward to, at last.

Thanks for the duck breast recipe, will try that one. I feel tempted to put some ginger in it, along with the garlic and cloves – what do you think?

  17. Not only count me in for the dvd, but I’ll be buying up copies for Christmas presents, birthday gifts, and any other reason I can think of. You’re sounding so optimistic I am beginning planning on throwing another Atlantis party. Here’s hoping to a smooth process of finalizing the script.
The duck recipe sounds intriguing. I may borrow it to try at work, where we’ve been on an exploration into finer foods.
Thanks for the wee hours cheerup your post has provided.

  18. Joe, can you tell me whether or not the script ending is strong on a scale of 1 to 10 any good?
I’m just trying to decide whether the hype surrounding the SGA, is justified. Because well, i remember the first time i saw an add for Continuum and the massive goa’uld battleship fleet exiting hyperspace. I though OMG! YES YES YES! Because I had an expectation similar to the Anubis battle over earth. And in the end I was very, very let down.
Please do not give me false hope of a blockbuster caliber movie and deliver something that makes Pearl Harbor look like the best movie ever made.

  19. Hi again Mr M!

Greetings from an un-seasonally temperate Tipperary. It’s about 19 C here…Wowsers! that’s baking (for Irish Climate!)

    Thanks for the updates.

You haven’t been mentioning any restaurants recently. Have you been by Don Francesco’s in a while? How is he? Also, how goes the other Fuel restaurant (the name escapes me..I’ve nick-named it mini-Fuel)?

Belated congrats to you and the team on the Leo nods!! Will you be going to the ceremony?

    Thanks again Mr M!

Best to all at The Bridge.

    Shirt’n’Tie

  20. Violence in space? excellent!! lol… Please, please, please tell us that Mrs Miller is in it too – better still if she has to deal with dispatching her first bad alien along the way.

Of course, we don’t expect too many (if any) further hints to the story/plot – but I often seem to wonder at what point Atlantis leaves Earth and more over – to where…

I’m sure it’ll have us all on the edge of our seats by the time it’s ready.

  21. Look, I feel bad for you so I’ll do you a mega favour. Email me the script, I’ll read it and send you back a few title suggestions. Just off the top of my head I’m thinking, “Stargate Atlantis: What now?”, “Stargate Atlantis: Please buy this so we can make another” or how about “Stargate Atlantis: the wrath of the wraith”. Don’t dismiss so quickly, I’ve only gotten started.

Think about it and get back to me.

    Cheers, Chev

  22. Hey Joe!

All this talk about Universe and especially it’s main setting Destiny has been reminding me of a very bugging detail in Stargate history, or rather lack of:

Is there any way you could track down and show us some concept art of the Alteran Ship that appeared in Ark of Truth?

It’s such a key moment of stargate history, especially for the last two seasons, and it’s a shame we were never able to see it clearly. In any case, thank you very much…

Also, do you know if the VFX style for Universe will be similar/the same as it was for SG1 and SGA? Or will it have noticeably style differences? (that is, if you know, I know it’s unlikely that too much is completed but there may have been some sort of decision)

  23. I keep thinking.. you have Rick, Michael, and Amanda.. where’s Chris? Or will you have him for the premiere of the *next* series??

  24. LOL
To borrow a Gordon Ramsayism: “Stargate Atlantis Movie with satisfying conclusion…Done!”.
I would LOVE to hear him say that in his accent. With an added British, “Right on schedule!”

While I’m still mourning the TV show, I’m stoked to have some more visual SGA coming. No worries about support from this sector! I love the books and characters but, as good as my imagination is, it just isn’t the same without seeing our beloved actors do the magic.
    DD

  25. “What’s with the lack of Ladon Radim…”

Ryan Robbins has been a pretty busy boy elsewhere, including Sanctuary where he’s doing an amazing job. No offense to the Atlantis gang, but I like Henry a lot more than Ladon, so I’m perfectly happy for him to stay over there.

    Re: the duck recipe…

I really should know better than to read this blog in the morning. Now I really want that duck, and it’s not even nine o’clock. I haven’t even finished digesting breakfast. Thanks a lot, Joe. :p

  26. Ha ha the 911 thing happened to me too! The thing called 911 while in the freakin holster.
The guys here did something to it though and it hasen’t happened since.

I wish the movie would start now…sigh. I guess I will just have to wait until next spring.

  27. 1) With Wray now revealed as the “gay character” that RCC and BW mention, how was it decided which character would be the “gay character” on SGU?
    2) Was this aspect of the character discussed with Ming-Na from the start or a development that came after casting?
    3) Some have critisied that lesbian was likely chosen over a gay man, in order not to heavily effect the male demo of the show, was this even considered?

  28. Congratulations on finishing the movie script! I’ll be looking forward to seeing it (the movie not the script – though if you want to send it my way, I wouldn’t turn down a peek!)

That sounds like a great recipe for duck. I especially like the cherry and port sauce recipe. My main problem with cooking duck – it always sets off the smoke detectors! But maybe if I cook with the windows open. Hmmm.

I’m guilty of not reading the book for this week; I’m still working on last week’s entry (which I am thoroughly enjoying). My excuse: I have been editing an RPG event for some friends. But I’m finally done with the first round and have not yet received the second, so I will be jumping back in to read May’s books. I promise! I just ordered Land of Laughs and already bought I Remember the Future. The horror novel sounds interesting, but I’m not sure I’ll have time for 3 books. You did ask for excuses.

@das: I hope you get that computer problem solved soon!

  29. Doing two SG movies at the same time? Will that make it hard for cross over actors (if there are any)? Or cross over crews?

After browsing through Gateworld, I don’t think you will have problem with an audience for your SGA movie. I will be one of the first to buy the DVD, so you can count on me, also.

    Tam

  30. Hmmm…movie titles…

Really hard to know what sort of title will work, since we don’t know a thing about the plot. But here’s a few suggestions…

    The Good Sheppard
    The Right Hand of Todd
    A Keller Among Us
    Ronon Holiday
    What’s Up, Chuck?
    The Rodfather
    The Athosian Queen

    Yeah, I know: 🙄

    das

  31. LOL hey das you forgot
    Carson City
    Dyed in the Woolsey
    The Great Banks Robbery
    Evan Go Bragh
    From Here to Zelenka

    ow! 😉 DD

  32. Thanks so much for the Movie news, I love it!
And I’m really happy to see so many of the recurring characters coming back.
I’ll buy multiple copies when it comes out, if that will help!
    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

  33. @ dasNdanger – I love your movie titles, those are great!

Joe- is the Atlantis movie going straight to blue- ray?

  34. Hey Das, did you try pushing the reset on the back of the modem? If the problem is that it got knocked down, resetting it might help. You need to stick something small into a little hole on the back of the unit if your modem is anything like my Westell DSL modem.
I have no idea why you would get knocked offline when you get a call. The filters are just so that you don’t hear the “sizzle” of the DSL when you’re on the phone. And if you turn your modem off when you’re not using it, you won’t have that problem. That coule be a problem in the CO (central office) and would need a call to tech support.

  35. Keep positive, Das: Perhaps the “doors being slammed shut” are that Todd finally feeds on Sheppard, seizes Atlantis and kicks those nasty Earth humans from the Pegasus galaxy once and for all. Wouldn’t that be a most enjoyable conclusion for five years of war crimes perpetrated by the Atlantis expedition? :->

  36. @das: You made my day with those movie titles!

I’m having a rough day at work (yeah, I shouldn’t be visiting the blog on my computer from work) and those titlbe gave me a much needed laugh. Now, I just need more coffee.

  37. @ drldeboer – 😆 !!! Dyed in the Woolsey!!! Lorne Doone!!! 😆 Perfect!! Too funny!

@ Barbaro – Oh, I have reset, unplugged, restarted, pulled out, opened up, blown on, shaken, rattled and rolled…and it will still ONLY connect if I have the phone off the hook (which I discovered this morning worked just as well as being connected to another number). As soon as I hang up the phone, I lose the connection (mine is a Westell, too). I called tech support (of course, couldn’t understand a thing the guy said, except I *think* there is a work order in for someone to come out and check my phone lines).

In the meantime, at least I know a trick to make it work! 😀 I’m almost as clever as Rodney!

@ sparrow_hawk, Kabra, Deni B. – Glad you got a chuckle! And sparrow, I’m playing at work, too. 😉

@ Laura Dove – *GLOMPS!!!* Long time, no see!! So good to hear from you! Drop me a line at GW! And…ah, yes…your dream scenario just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! 😀 Which…in reality, kinda matches how I am on the outside… 😛 (#@$%ing hormones!)

    das

  38. Hi Joe,
Thank you so much for answering my questions. It really means a lot to me. YES!!!!! I’m so happy, now could you at least give us some atlantis movie details, I mean at the end of last year you were already saying that info on the atlantis movie was coming and that was months ago. I mean I AM SO GRATEFUL for your script updates but you are slowly roasting us atlantis fans by not giving us any plot details. Well I have some questions so, instead of telling us directly, we can guess.

    1. Will the Atlantis Movie’s A plot be about the Wraith?

    2. Will there be lots of action? Such P90 fire, Space battles, hand to hand scenes. Or will it be like a common episode’s dose of action? Do you think it will have more action than the previous movies?

    3. How do I contact Mrs. Val Halverson?

    4. So are you done Filming Water yet? Has Life Started Filming yet?

    5. How close is Air to being finished.? How are the visual effects coming? Are they almost done?

I know by now you probably want to triangulate my position via some cool internet tech, beam me up to the Odyssey, beam me into your office, tie me up, and lock me somewhere where i can’t post questions on you blog, But thanks anyways for putting up with me. I know it must be hard.

    Thanks so much,
    Major D. Davis

  39. Curious, here, gay usually means male, lesbian for females. Yet gateworld posts gay characters in SGU. It is Lesbians. Not that it matters, well except perhaps saying Gay, meaning Lesbians, and that homosexual women are less um “scary” for the homophobic than homosexual men are… I’ll celebrate when SGU has homosexual men on it. And when there are women writers. Not that I don’t love all you guys, but come on. Let the women have a chance. Oh, & the gay men. 🙂

  40. Some excellent title suggestions! LOL! And excellent news that the script in finished in its first draft! Yay!!

Here’s another ‘helpful’ title idea *g*:
Rodney McKay and the Hiveship of Doom

    Or maybe:
Stargate Atlantis: The Voyage Home – of course, that assumes they return to Pegasus…

Thankfully, that’s all for now you’ll be relieved to know!!

    Leesa

  41. Joe,

Did you see Amazing Race last night? The most shocking episode ever! It just goes to show – you don’t have to have excellent hearing to be a big twerp.

    Best,

    Rose

  42. Oh thanks so much Joseph ti let us having an open door for our French Fanseries Stargate Odyssea with your answer :

“Answers: 1. In my mind, the real Ba’al is still out there. Brad may hold a different opinion though.”

We planned to hav Ba’al on it, so thanks letting us have that storyline !

    Gwén.

  43. Oh and just wondering…

Have you read Fahrenheit 451 yet? If you did, did you like it.
If you Haven’t, you need to read it. You would LOVE it.

    Thanks so much,
    Major D. Davis

  44. Me again! My husband just added a couple of title ideas to the pot:

    Passage to Lantea

    The Canadian Patient
(if Rodney ends up in the infirmary, that is!)

    Leesa

  45. Hi

In your science fiction readings, did you ever read JG Ballard? He’s a challenging but rewarding author. His real life provided the basis for the Speilberg movie Empire of the Sun, when he was a child in Shanghai at the start of WWII. Sadly, he passed away yesterday. And so it goes.

  46. I haven’t been here for a while but great blog. Has me slightly worried, because all finales do, but I can’t wait to see Shep and McKay again and the actors who play them.

    I’ve got to ask you…

Have you ever read Edward Carey’s Observatory Mansions?

  47. My guess for the movie!

A door is slammed dramatically killing Teyla instantly as she is crushed to death in it’s hinges. Keller joins the team as her replacement and her and McKay join together to raise Teyla’s child making for hilariousy wacky but truly touching moments. The B-side of the script is dedicated to Ronon and Sheppard gating across the universe on the hunt for strollers, playpens and sparkly throw cushions for the happy couples up and coming nuptuals.

But wait! A cliffhanger of twisty proportions! Ronon and Keller look at each other with intent…could it be…could it be…but no, it’s not, and the movie ends with Torren stumbling down the aisle carrying the wedding rings that seal the epic McKeller love while Ronon and Sheppard shed tears of joy as they lounge about on Teyla’s coffin that’s been brought out of storage especially for the occassion.

Teyla’s ghost watches on smiling serenly and bursts into joyous song as Keller walks down the aisle to her beloved. Not a dry eye in the house or a stomach left unheaved. (Teyla will be played by Hayden Christensen in the dvd special edition release.)

Doves are released and as the camera pans up to see them fly up into the dimming sky, 300 hive ships blow up in celebration.

    THE END!

I should be working in Hollywood, damnit! This stuff is GOLD! GOLD!

  48. Oh! I finally thought of a name!

    Through a Stargate Darkly…

    That’s probably lame but…

I didn’t know that JG Ballard had died shiloh. He was a gifted writer and I will miss him.

  49. Yay Atlantis Movie! *bounces up and down* Very happy to hear the news and that so many of our favorites will be in it. Hopefully that door won’t slam shut on someone’s finger or worse, haha!

  50. I’m glad that the Atlantis movie is more of a reality now. I was scared that I’d have to wait longer for it. Thank you.

Now more pics of Joe Flanigan wouldn’t go astray, 😉 Tell him you’re taking all these pictures for an admiring fan. LOL

Question: Do you write for his character or is that someone else that does that and you just write how you want the show to be about?

Can’t wait to see the movie though. Keep up the great work.

  51. I will certainly be supporting both the SG1 & SGA movies as for SGU I have no plans to watch it Cheaper cast & no location shoots apart from the pilot all green screen perhaps it should be call Stargate Walmart! As I previously sated the inclusion of favourite cast members from SG1 evenly spaced over the first half of the season & now the inclusion of a B list singer all hint at viewing figure manipulation rather than than a series to get our teeth into. The more hints I see the despondent I get it is galactica all over again I stopped watching that ep2 season 3, if I want polidrama I would watch the westwing I want entertaining Sci Fi escapism.

    Dave

  52. Joe A nice short story that I think would make a good movie or a premis for series for that matter . See Below:-

Come, Hunt an Earthman (1973) If you’re human… the deadliest game
You may consider yourselves experienced hunters… You have hunted on many planets… But here things are different.
For here there are no mindless monsters or charging carnivores, but a devious, intelligent and different prey…
A prey who is out to get you before you get him…
    Man!

  53. @ dasNdanger
When I had DSL, I had some problems. I couldn’t use the scanner and printer if I was online. I’m now with AT&T’s U-verse service. I have no problems now…..

    Title for movie:

    Stargate Atlantis: The new beginning

  54. First of all, love the blog. I like it when producers keep in touch with the fans.

Second, a quick question. I have seen some of the pictures from the recent set tour, and what looked like the gate room at the SGC was different from in SG-1. Was this the gate room? Or another base offworld? If it was the SGC, can you explain why or will that be touched in the show?

Anyway, I know its kinda nitpicky, but I’m just curious. Thanks for all the great work over the years and good luck with SGU!

  55. @ Dave A
While I can respect your desire not to watch SGU ( I still associate the show with SGA’s cancellation), I hardly think it looks or sounds cheap. If anything, it looks like it’s going to be more expensive – name actors, different locations, pricey guest stars, new sets.
So although it might not be our cup of tea, show-wise, I dont get the feeling that they are skimping on the production.

  56. it was sure hot today… 🙁

    fahrenheit = 95

  57. Good lord, my mouth is watering and my stomach is growling fit to beat the band after reading your duck recipe, Joe. I’m going to have to put that at the top of my ‘must try’ recipes. If I can find duck at the local supermarket, that is. :-/

@ Das and drldeboer 😆 You guys are a hoot! I’d like to see each and every one of those movies, though I’m partial to “The Athosian Queen”. I can just see the team’s ‘Jumper crashing on a planet with the Wraith and having to make their way down river to the Stargate in a rickety boat. “Lorne Doone” would be great too, especially if you could get Sean Bean to guest star as the new evil Genii commander! 😀

  59. Hi Joe!

Finishing up The Land of Laughs for next month’s discussion. Cool book!

Congrats on finishing (this draft?) of the SGA movie. 🙂 So glad you feel the conclusion is satisfying. It’ll probably work for me then, but I reserve the right to come in here and go “OMGed! What did you do that for?!” (screamed with love, of course).

    All the best!

  60. Hey Joe,

I am doing a research paper on the future of TV and movies and I have some technical questions and general questions. Is there anyway you can help me?

  61. Hi Joe,

Having heard that the episode ‘Bad Guys’ (which I thought was very funny and at times very tense) in the last season of SG-1 came from an idea by Ben Browder and was then expanded upon – how about this for an idea:

As a big fan of Major Lorne (Kavan Smith) how about a new series featuring him (newly promoted of course) as being in charge of Area 51 where all the things that SG1 and the SGA teams have bought back from other worlds are tried out/tested and perhaps adapted for Earth’s use. It could be a Sci-Fi – Comedy/Drama. With some episodes being fairly dramatic when some devices having sersious consequences whilst other devices/episodes have a more comical side. Then stars from both SG-1 and SGA could guest star. Either way I would like to see more of Kavan Smith on our screens (especially here in the UK).

How about it? More pics of KS if poss please.

  62. Very cool about the Atlantis script being finished, I’m hoping we’ll get to have it on DVD in the near future (in Australia!) because I would be one of the few rushing to the store to buy myself a copy and squeal like a crazed fan once I have it in my hands. One thing I am curious about is will Carson’s family know of his existence since he returned to Earth in the last episode?

Thanks for the update Joe! 🙂
