My pug Bubba has a habit of barking at the t.v. I suppose it’s common behavior in most dogs although, if that is the case, then Jelly, Maximus, and Lulu are in the minority. What I find interesting is not so much his frenzied reaction, but some of the unusual things that consistently set him off. The other day, I made a point of taking note of the triggers. What follows is a list of the thing things that prompt Bubba’s berserker rage:

1. Dogs.

2. Horses.

3. Rappers (and rap music in general).

4. Cats.

5. Monkeys.

6. Patricia Arquette.

7. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers post-TD celebratory fusillade.

8. The theme to American Idol.

9. Cows.

10. Iron Chef’s Chairman Kaga.

Okay, rappers and Patricia Arquette I get. But Chairman Kaga? Seriously. What gives?

Well, round two of the NFL playoffs is in the books and congratulations are in order. Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers who, finding themselves down two touchdowns early, remained cool under pressure (the wintry weather presumably helped), and came back to trounce those upstart Seattle Seahawks. Congratulations to the New York Giants who demonstrated, to quote Cookie Monster, “heart like turd Snuffleupagus leave behind when visit Sesame Street: big, impressive, but easy to overlook on way to beer store or, in dis case, Superbowl” (On the other hand, condolences to super-fans Robert Cooper and Paul McGillion who are, no doubt at this very moment, nursing deep, deeeep depressions). Congratulations to those scrappy San Diego Chargers who hung tough on the road and eked out a hard-fought victory, winning themselves the golden opportunity to lose in New England next weekend. And, that’s it. Yeah, New England won, but they were supposed to win – by a lot more. Shameful really. I can’t even imagine how deeply disappointed Patriots fans are after this weekend’s win.

Hey, check it out. Marty G. received his shipment of Atlantis action figures Friday afternoon. Included in the assortment was the super-rare Drunken Sheppard fig (pictured). How cool is that!

Today’s mailbag:

Thornyrose writes: “Will we see Todd again this season?”

Answer: Yep.

Emily writes: “I hate to think that I’m this stupid, but I can’t figure out how to get to your profile on this site.”

Answer: Hmmm. Come to think of it, neither can I.

PG15 writes: “I thought the Replicator Aurora class ships were kind of weaker than their Lantian cousins in BAMSR. They barely fired any drones and their shields seemed to have come down really fast.”

Answer: Two points – 1. The weapons systems on the Earth ship have been upgraded following the events of Unending. 2. The replicator Aurora-class ships are very good replicas of their original Ancient counterparts. But they are not the originals.

PG15 also writes: “For the spoiler poem, am I right to say that each episode/notion only got 1 line in the poem? I.e. There aren’t 2 separately lines that point to the same episode?”

Answer: It more or less comes out to one line per episode.

Neep writes: “If it’s broken, will you sign my cast? Or at least carry me down the hill to work?”

Answer: So what’s the verdict? Is it broken?

Jed writes: “Was the cloning facillity only used for creating wraith warriors? (the ones with the masks) if so how are the other wraith created?”

Answer: The wraith warriors are cloned. As for the queens and the speaking males – this has yet to be revealed, however Ellia’s backstory in Instinct would suggest they are produced through less, uh, techy means.

Pitry writes: “John doesn’t want Teyla to go on missions because she’s pregnant. Fair enough. But it’s not the limitations she might have due to her pregnancy that’s bothering him – obviously, at 3 months she’s as capable as before – but her risking her yet unborn child. There’s a generation long arguement about whether, at 3 months, a foetus can be considered a living being – not to mention all the rambling about it having a mind of its own in SOW – and there’s a very good reason there’s still a debate on it.”

Answer: First of all, all debate aside, by going off-world, Teyla puts her pregnancy at risk. That is what Sheppard is reacting to. Secondly, given the events of Spoils of War, I think it’s pretty obvious that one shouldn’t be applying typical Earth-based notions to Teyla’s clearly atypical pregnancy.

Angry Jackfan writes: “I’ve heard Jack will be in less than 10 minutes in Continuum. Is it true?”

Answer: Not sure. I usually make it a point to pinpoint the exact screen time of each character, but I left my stopwatch at home during the Continuum screening.

Narellefromaus writes: “The enormity of the Culture was unfathomable and my head enjoyed trying to imagine that kind of scale.”

Answer: Banks creates an incredibly complex universe. What I particularly loved about Consider Phlebas was the humanity’s comparatively small role in the big picture war being played out around them. Both sides in the conflict propose pretty convincing arguments – and prove, at times, equally reprehensible. No easy answers.

Kate writes: “I have a question though; in the first season, we would see the prison doors on the Wraith ships coming apart to open, and then reforming to close. In this episode, the prison door slides up in its entirety. What gives?”

Answer: Different hive.

Carol Z writes: “Is it possible to purchase SGA scripts from past eps anywhere online? I don’t mean the free transcripts, but actual shooting scripts, that were used to shoot the eps?”

Answer: To the best of my knowledge, actual shooting scripts are not available for sale.

  1. Amanda talked about the scene in a recent TV Zone interview (spoilers for Ark of Truth):
    Spoiler:
“It’s not an emotional film for her at all, although there’s a lovely scene between Colonel Mitchell and Carter that fans are going to go Shippy –crazy for, and Ben and I just had a blast playing it,” continues Tapping. “it’s not a Shippy scene, and it doesn’t have to be. It’s just two friends who have gone through this incredible journey and have a history together. Prior to this, we’d had these little scenes with the two of them, like in [the season 10 stories] Line in the Sand and The Road Not Taken – even though it’s set in an alternate reality – that spoke to their friendship. In The Ark of Truth you really feel the history of that friendship between carter and Mitchell. It’s just a page-and-a-half goofy little scene where he’s in the infirmary and Carter comes to visit him. Ben and I just found this little moment in there where we sort of went, “OK, let’s play and have some fun.”
Will Sam and Jack shippers get something similar (even an ambiguous friendship/shippy scene) in Continuum?

  2. THANK YOU!!

So they just weren’t as good. Simple enough.

Speaking of Bubba’s barking, maybe you can use it in your creative duties. Have him watch an episode of Stargate Atlantis, and see when he barks. The answer may be enlightening (or at least amusing…maybe). Give it a try.

  3. I love Robert Cooper but if I was with him in person right now I would do a dance of joy in front of him that my Giants defeated his evil Cowboys!

To you Joe, just wanted to say that I read your blog every night (thanks for the laughs) but rarely comment. I did want to send a late congrats on Friday’s episode. It was a great way to end the week. And I can’t wait to see Quarantine next week! It looks great.

Thank you for keeping us all entertained. Hope you had a great weekend!

  4. Please answer these questions 1) Have you ever watched Enchanted? If yes, what did you think of the movie? 2) Have you ever watched Flower Drum Song? Again, if yes, what did you think of the movie? 3) And finally, what part of Scotland is Beckett from? Thanks

  5. Drunken Sheppard? Looks more like smarmy Sheppard to me!

Emily is not stupid – I can’t find your profile thingy either. Help! Has anyone else found it? I too would like to know what’s on your reading list. Or any other tidbits you have to share.

  6. I was gonna comment on the Shep figure but you beat me to it.. if they come down under then I’ll buy some for m…err the boys.

Nice ‘Million Dollar Man’ tshirt Rob!!!

I loved the witty litle one liners in the shows.. who usually thinks them up? Does David adlib at all (ie did he make up ‘Captain Obvious’ by himself or was that a writer?)

  7. If you had to pick a name for the Wraith action figure shown in photo above, what would you name it? Would you name it or just call it Wraith (or even nothing)?

  8. Are the male leads on Atlantis (Flanigan, Hewlett, and Momoa) as a group talker than the male leads (Browder, Shanks, and Judge) on SG-1?

As silly as the question sounds, I thought it made more sense than asking if Amanda Tapping had shrunk.

(I know she wasn’t in SOW – I just keep forgetting to ask the question.)

BTW, loved the Shepherd/Teyla discussions about her pregnancy. Despite my “quibble” last week on the subject, I didn’t really think he would react jealously. But, his reaction was still different than what I expected and it wasn’t something that I had considered.

Originally, I thought the episode got off to a slow start – then I realized it had nothing to do with the episode itself but with the number of commercials SciFi put on during the first two commercial breaks. When I watched my DVR version (and fast forwarded during the commercials) the pace of the show was great.

  9. Emily writes: “I hate to think that I’m this stupid, but I can’t figure out how to get to your profile on this site.”

Answer/Joe: Hmmm. Come to think of it, neither can I.

Umm…you hate to think that I’m this stupid, or you also can’t figure out how to get to your profile? 😉

I believe you mentioned watching Amazing Race a bit ago…do you have a favorite/least favorite team still remaining?

Oh, and I love the drunken Sheppard. 😀 I actually think it’s a very good likeness.

  10. The Cowboys lost and I am now in a deep depression! To help me out I am playing SGA espisodes, it seems to be working, but I may have to see all three seasons!! *heavy sighs* All I have now is SGA, thank god!!

  11. Emily writes: “I hate to think that I’m this stupid, but I can’t figure out how to get to your profile on this site.”

Oops, sorry. I didn’t realize that coud be read two different ways. I meant that even though I am able to edit my profile, for some reason I don’t know how to access it.

Where might one join the Wraith and become a Queen with speaking and none speaking males sounds interesting!

For the Wraith Queen’s sake I hope there’s a bit more to procreation than the cloned drones. Being covered in roots and sitting on your throne, where’s the fun in that???

No wonder she gets a bit irked!

  13. Hey Joe, I’m going to be heading back to my hometown of Fremantle in Western Australia’s south west. And yes…I know you live there Annie. I only recently moved away and I am kind of home sick…Do you ever miss Montreal? What would you like me to pick you up while I’m there?

Selections are: New High Rise Buildings, The Mayor’s Head, stuffed and mounted, The Mayor’s head on a stake, Ruocco’s Pizza selections(1) Ruocco’s Special 2) Tony’s Special 3) Capricosia 4) Pizza Bianca? Tasty Express serves up: any panini(BLT..yumm)), any assortment of smoothies, fresh pastas? Some of the best tiramasu I have ever had c/o Ruocco’s Pizza and Restaurant??

  14. My bad, I forgot there was already a Bubba in your realm. I hope Rob C., Earl of the Smoker, isn’t disappointed that he therefore can’t receive the title Bubba of the Smoker. (Although since the title really doesn’t mean that much outside of Texas and whatever other states are in that area, it’s no great loss. – kidding, kidding… the state I live in gets lambasted enough.)

Bubba’s barking habit does sound kind of odd. My guess is that you really don’t want him barking anymore than he already does; but it would be cool if he’d quit barking at everything else on the television, and switch to barking, growling, and looking tough every time Jerry Jones appears onscreen.

I would try to be sympathetic over the Cowboys’ loss, but it’d be about as genuine as looking happy that my boss picked up KFC for lunch. Besides, I was a major Giants fan when my family lived in NY, and old ways die hard. And it was nice to see the younger of the Manning brothers get his turn in the spotlight for a good reason.

Despite the Colts’ loss, hats off to Tony Dungy, a great coach and one of the classiest gentlemen in the NFL.

That is one weird-looking Sheppard action figure.

  15. Don’t know if I can help Emily but Joe, if you go up to the top left hand corner and click on “My Account”, the drop down box shows “Edit Profile”.

On a yahoo group that I moderate we have had a discussion about the fact that the team (when off world)rarely mention Sam especially in episodes where Sam (due to Amanda’s 14 episode commitment) is not shown.
I know that S4 is finished but if Sam returns in S5, I hope that she is mentioned more when she is not present. This (I would hope) will go a long why to convincing the doubters that she is truly the leader of the expedition.

  16. Hi Joe,

    1) in the preview scenes of Quarantine where Sheppard is climbing the outside wall of the tower, Joe F’s stunt double is wearing what looks like black running shoes instead of boots (also happened during the good Sheppard/bad Sheppard fight at the end of Doppelganger). Was this for safety or an oversight?

    2) In This Mortal Coil, would the duplicate Sheppard/Weir have known the new location of Atlantis, since the new planet was picked AFTER Weir was lost to the Replicators? (The conversation in the jumper sounds like going back to Atlantis is an option that Sheppard was considering)

    3) Has it ever been explained on the show why jumpers can’t go through the gate cloaked?

Thanks, love the show and can’t wait for the rest of the season and then the DVDs!!!

  17. Joe,

New fan here. My new boyfriend is a big Stargate fan and I just spent all of December (lots of time off) watching the whole series with him. So, here goes:

Why have you guys not resolved the Sam/Jack ship in some way? Teal’c freed his people, Daniel worked out his ascended issues with Oma, Vala found a place for herself on SG1, etc. It seems like everyone has had their major arcs resolved except for this one. Is there a particular reason you haven’t followed through with your intentions?

Can you share where the writers are with regards to Jack and Sam? I think it was a neat through-line which tied the seasons together and made the characters seem more like real people. I really missed it in season nine and ten.

I haven’t seen beyond season one of Atlantis yet, though, so if there is something in there please don’t tell me. I hate spoilers. Thanks, and GO PATS!

    Cindy from Boston

  18. Bubba is normal. I thought my grandmother’s dog (who is a chihuahua) only goes crazy for horses on tv. He also goes crazy and barks at bees and elephants on tv.

The Colts lost and I am a little depressed. But I am going to cheer for Manning’s little brother. GO GIANTS!!!!!

  19. (singing gleefully) “The cowboys lost”…oops, wait, anything that depresses Cooper and McGillion cant be all good(but as a Deadskins fan I HAVE to cheer….what a moral dilmemna….)
I’m having enough trouble tracking down SGA figures as it is, and now they have released new ones? I can just see Mr. G. at the next writer’s meeting, figure in hand, coming up with dialogue as he moves it about the table… guess I’ll have to hit the web and start finding some sites that sells them. The only place I could find SG figures hasnt gotten around to stocking SGA yet, despite my assurances i’ll buy at least 2 of each… thanks for giving us plenty of time for next month’s read. Looks like I’m going to have to make the rounds of the books stores to get them all, since the local store isnt being helpful. Just about ready to comment on The Crooked Letter, which discussion starts tomorrow I believe. Looking forward to other views on that. And more Todd this season….life is good, and the year is improving rapidly. Now, if only the Writers strike would end and Mr. B. can get back to work..

  20. Hi Joe!

Love the photos of those action figures, er, your co-workers! Ahhh, Rob’s wearing a Six Million Dollar Man t-shirt. (Right?) Blast from the past. 🙂

In today’s photos, I think the artwork in the hallway is very beautiful. Can you tell me where it’s from or anything about it?

Speaking of artwork, I checked out Don Davis’ site. Wow! He’s an incredible artist – as well as a great actor! 😀

The Drunken Shep action figure will be available to all of us thunkers, er, fans. (Right?) I think I’ve actually seen a photo where Joe F. has that same smirk – buried in my pile of SGA pics. OK, buried in my pile of Joe F. pics, but they’re mostly SGA!!! Honest!!

Over the years, my dogs have only barked at the TV maybe once in their lives. My cats were only attracted to the TV maybe twice in their lives. Bubba is an unusual dog. Especially with the barking at monkeys. I can see a stray DNA strand attaching itself to your sweet dog from some Sheppard, er, Shepherd, which would explain the dogs, horses, cows, and Patricia Arquette, but monkeys???

I don’t have anything to say about the football games (besides “Go Chargers!”) because while my hubby watched the games, I was watching SGA eps from my iPod – TMC, BAMSR, and SoW specifically. We just watched M’s C – first time for hubby, probably fourth for me. 🙂

Got questions about SoW: Were we supposed to infer/know there was only one queen in the breeding complex at the time? Was she the only queen to have “produced” drones for cloning, or was she one of a few/several queens who passed through the complex for this latest batch?

    Thanks, take care, and cheers!

  21. A quick question based on a line in “Spoils of War”:

Sheppard says he knew a guy in college named Todd. I had made the assumption that immediately after high school he had attended the Air Force Academy instead of a university/college. So, what is John Sheppard’s academic history? Junior College until he was old enough for the Academy? 4 full years and then the Academy? If so, what degree? Or will we find out in Outcast?

  22. Bonsoir Joseph,
As-tu des problèmes encore avec Blogger ? Ouais, moi qui m’étais habitué à lire ton blogue sur ce site, va falloir que je change encore mes habitudes… Bof, on s’habitue à tout à ce qui parait !
    Bonne soirée !

  23. I found an entry in the FAQ that addresses the Profile problem question. If I understand the answer found here correctly, Mr. M will have to use something called a ‘text widget’ to link his profile to his blog.

  24. I’ve had a good number of dogs over my long years, and I never had one that barked at the TV, although I’ve had a few that would run over and sniff at it if they heard a weird sound. I did have a boxer once that liked to look at the full moon, like he was trying to figure out what the heck it was, and for a short while, I had an insane Boston terrier that we couldn’t take in the car when it rained because the windshield wipers put him into a psychotic frenzy.

Btw, the smile on that Sheppard doll is the exact same smart-alec smile Sheppard gave Colonel Sumner when the expedition was preparing to leave for Atlantis for the very first time. And it is a good likeness.

  25. ARGH!! The Packers won! I think I’m the only person in Green Bay who hates them! Wish they would’ve had to play Dallas – at least then, they would’ve been beat for sure! So, who are you predicting for the Superbowl match-up?

I must say I LOVED Spoils of War!! It had everything – a great story line, interesting twists, and solid, meaningful character interactions. So far, one of the best this season. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what else is in store.

  26. Heh, I got my Sheppard dollies on Friday (the ordinary & the field ops). The ordinary one seems to have a weird skin condition that I don’t remember the Flan having. I’m kinda confused as to why Sheppard-the-dolly gets a ZPM – I would’ve thought that would go to Rodney-dolly. Unless Sheppard has it to torment Rodney with … like the lemon that comes with it! Now I can’t wait for the Rodney dollies to come out. Sheppard needs a playmate!

  27. Will you please pick a theme and stick with it?!?!? It changes every time I hit reload or submit and I think I’ve click the destruct button or something. 😀 By the way, I hate the font size on this one and the one with the car in a tunnel wasn’t much better.

    Anne Teldy

  28. I think Bubba’s barking is some type of canine IQ test (my wolfhounds rarely bark at the tube – they’re sweethearts but really they’re not very bright. Of course, my dogs have never been subjected to Patricia Arquette).
I’m watching tonight’s episode of “The Wire” – what a great show. Have you seen any episodes?

  29. Okay, time for another wild guess…

Or, actually, a continuation of a wild guess… (I posted something like this several weeks ago)

Spoils of War just proved that the Wraith have cloning technology. Could Carson’s return in Kindred be because the one killed in Sunday was a clone (nothing new, I know)? Could this clone have been created during Allies during Atlantis’s brief alliance with the Wraith. If the Wraith had somehow gotten Carson away from Atlantis and onto the hive without anyone missing him, they could have cloned him and used the Wraith Queen to psychically probe his mind and transfer this knowledge to the clone as it developed via the Wraith Psychic Network? And then, the clone replaced the real one? Wait! I know what you’re thinking! That hive was destroyed! However, they lost contact with that hive during their first abortive attempt to test the retrovirus. What if they made a pit stop on their way back and real Carson was transferred to a planet either directly or via gate. Then, after the hive is destroyed, only Michael would know about him and where he was; thus, Carson would be in the forced employ of Michael when they find him in Kindred, and he has helped, as Teyla said in “Vengeance,” Michael integrate their science into his so quickly. And as Weir said in the same episode, Michael had labs on 3 other worlds, one of which could contain our very unfortunate Carson Beckett…

Long, weird, and complicated, I know, but it’s just a guess. If you can, let me know if I am hot, cold, or luke warm…

    ~Derek

  30. Hey Joe. Are you just messing with us? (Or trying to torture anne teldy). The format keeps changing. Of course if I had a life other than reading everyone’s comments on your blog, I wouldn’t notice the numerous format flings you seem to be having tonight.

And the comment thingy is way off – which reminds me, how close are you to your 1 million visitor/commentor?

Go packers! I am so glad the cowboys lost! And although I like the Colts, I like the Chargers too. Here’s hoping they can fight off the Pats!

  31. I have heard of dogs watching T.V. My dog doesn’t pay any attention to the picture on the screen, but he does prick up his ears and cock his head when he hears dog noises coming from it ….

  32. I have one (maybe silly) ‘Spoils of War’ question: The deal with Teyla’s unborn baby helping her and strengthening her Wraith-DNA-skills, is this going to be a situation sort of like in ‘Dune’ where Alia was pre-born; already has concious thought inside the womb?

  33. On Jan 13, 2008 at 5:32 pm Elizabeth Said:
Please answer these questions….3) And finally, what part of Scotland is Beckett from? Thanks.

He comes from Perth…got it Joe…Perth…gateway to the highlands….Perth…

  34. I’m attempting to make a Todd plushie, but I can’t see his feet with all the darn fog!! Does he wear boots or just some sort of shoes? If boots, does he wear them over or under his pants? If over, are are they ankle-, calf-, or knee-high? For that matter, does his coat do all the way to the floor, or does it stop a few inches from the ground?

  35. Spoils of War comments/questions:

    1) Loved the moment of the team in the “ready room” putting on their gear and then the “soo typical Rodney” just hanging out not realizing he should leave to let Teyla and Sheppard talk alone. Did you happen to write that scene? – I like those moments b/w the characters and showing new little places in Atlantis like a “ready room” that the team have set up that we’ve never seen or thought about before.

    2) The whole wraith warrior “birthing” – loved that little line “oh I’m definitely gonna have nightmares about that.” By the way – that whole scene was reminiscent of Lord of the Rings and the whole nasty birthing of those troll looking warriors. Just curious, if whoever decided to write that scene was in some way influenced by that movie?

    3) When the team rescues the wraith “Todd” – I laughed at the end of the scene when “Todd” said “I’m sure you haven’t come all this way to just rescue me, but it would be in your best interest.” He almost sounded a bit British while saying that line…anywho it made me a laugh…oh “Todd” has bit of humor about him. 🙂

    4) When Rodney is on his knees about to be Wraith food – what the heck does he say after “Oh great, my entire life I’ve never been chosen first….”?? I don’t know if its his inflection or fast pace in delivery but I could not understand that line. Please enlighten…:)

    Thanks for another great show…

  36. Oh I like the new decor!! Better for my eyes, great colour choice and no problem reading the text (this chickey has chook’s eyes)

PG15: You are a Fremantleite?? Cool! Yep I can imagine you getting homesick for this place. Joe if ever you come this way, check out Fremantle. Not that I eat that rubbish but there’s a McDonald’s right on the beach..you walk out and there’s the sand and water. Cool huh?

Oh and those who got the italics wrong.. instead of using [ use < the same way.

Again, very classy choice of decor Mr Smokin’ Joe.

  37. You gotta keep Drunken Shep away from the bar fridge…no, really!

Just asking a huge favor, Joe – would you dedicate Thursday’s blog to me (as I will be off line for 10 days – ARRRGH! A geek with nothing to geek on??? However will I stand not reading your blog for 10 STRAIGHT DAYS?

oh yeah, I’ll be in a tropical paradise!

BTW, HI to my fellow West Aussie peeps Annie & Joshmeyers! (I’m a Perth grrl)! AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI…

  38. I have had a question about how the radios work for a while now and have decided to pose it at last. Seems that everyone can hear all conversations and join in when topics are directed at them. I can’t figure out how different frequencies would help them other than to have “command” frequencies. But I would “assume” that only senior staff and possibly department heads would always be on radio. If you would not mind, would you explain?

  39. Hey, I could tell there was a Big Game on today because the neighbor’s herd of pickup trucks doubled in size and began spawning an ungodly number of SUVs. I wish I were joking. I used to live in San Diego, on the mesa above Qualcomm Stadium. So um, Go … Chargers is it? Chargers, yes then, Go Chargers!

My Fat Old Schnauzer barks at the slightest noise or movement outside the house, she’s a very efficient alarm system. Unfortunately, she’s afraid of everything and my cats beat her up. Poor fat old dog.

I swear I met Drunken Shep in an alleyway behind Honcho-Dori during one of our weekly marathon bar crawls. The expression certainly is familiar. Does he speak bad Japanese, like gyoza and smoke Larks? No? He has a drunken brother then.

And I just discovered at random today that I share a birthday with Rachel Luttrell. We’re in good company with Edgar Alan Poe, Dolly Parton and Janis Joplin.

  40. I haven’t bought an “action figure” since Star Trek: The Next Generation (when they killed off Tasha, I liked her character so much I wanted a memento) but I think I’m gonna have to have one of these smarmy Sheppard figures because when I put him next to Tasha, he’ll appear to be VERY happy…

I like the new look, very Victorian library-ish.

Doesn’t EVERYONE go berserk during that?? not unusual at all, here! PS Go Giants!! Go Chargers!!

  42. By the way, what do you think of Stargate Worlds?, do you have any input in the development at all?

  43. Hmmm…I’m liking this new layout. Very laidback, regal, and…”woody”. It suits you perfectly, Joe.

  45. Thank you, Anne Teldy, for the profile link! I did search the FAQs a bit, but apparently I was not as thorough as you. 🙂

My sister’s dog doesn’t seem to pay any mind to TV, but she does HATE anything with wheels. She gets quite ferocious and barky, especially around skateboarders, rollerbladers, vacuums, and people in electric wheelchairs (can be a bit embarrassing). Well, she gets as ferocious as a 3 lb yorkie can get.

Seriously, I love that Sheppard doll. Every time I look at it I have to laugh, and it inexplicably makes me extremely happy. (His hair!! His smile/smirk! His inebriety!) And I don’t even have a “thing” for Shep…

  46. Answer: So what’s the verdict? Is it broken?

Not broken, but sprained quite badly. I have drugs and crutches. I also have some anti-inflammatory cream that smells really good. Heh, everyone from the reception nurse to the radiologist thinks the swelling is awesome. It’s like there is half a tennis ball stuck to the side of my ankle, even though I iced it and kept it elevated and did all the right things.

I have learned three things today: 1) I’m way to stubborn and like to do everything for myself. 2) It actually puts people out less if you just let them hold the door for you instead of holding them up trying to do it yourself. 3) I need to work on my upper body strength.

  47. Included in the assortment was the super-rare Drunken Sheppard fig (pictured).

Hee! Well at least they managed to depict him in the happy sleepy drunken phase and not the angry pantsless vomitting part.

  48. Angry Jackfan writes: “I’ve heard Jack will be in less than 10 minutes in Continuum. Is it true?”

Answer: Not sure. I usually make it a point to pinpoint the exact screen time of each character, but I left my stopwatch at home during the Continuum screening.

Thank you for answering and confirming in your unique style.
At Avalon convention in November 2006 RDA was asked if he had been invited to return for any future “Stargate” episodes or movies. Richard confessed that he had not yet been approached. He said he would like to return for an appearance, but he added that his relationship with the “Stargate” producers is “very Scandinavian. We don’t talk a lot.”
What does that mean? Don’t you want him back? Or is it all in the past and things have mended since then (November 2006)?

  49. Another terrific episode with a lot of good character stuff thrown in along the way.

I especially appreciated that it was shown (rather than told in dialogue) that Sheppard’s concern was not only that Teyla’s baby not be put in danger, but also that Teyla should not be put in a situation where she had to choose between saving her baby or saving the team. That makes him both a good guy and a good soldier.

Was the action figure designer so concerned about getting the Sheppard bedhead right that he forgot to make the face resemble Joe F?

  50. Hi Joe,

I loved the last two episodes. I really enjoy team based episodes and special effects, so it was great.

Well, I am not upset about the Patriots winning just by a few points. A win is a win. Paul McGillion is a Cowboys fan? Seriously? Well, I love Paul, but the Cowboys?
    Go Pats!

  51. Hey Joe,

I hope that you had a fantastic weekend. I have a few questions regarding SGA airing in Canada:

1)Is it the Season 3 or 4 premiere on the Space Channel on Jan 20th? (I’m pretty sure it’s S3, can you please verify? Thanks.)

2)If it is s3: why is it that Canada is a season and a half behind? Does it have something to do with the inability of Space Channel obtaining licenses/rights to the show because of other (pay/cable) channels who can pay or outbid them?

3)And would it not be worthwhile to air new episodes simultaneously in the US, Canada and various other countries? Would that not cut down on illegal Internet downloads? (Sorry if these have been answered already. I’m really interested in how TV networks operate in different countries…Yes, I’m a business major. :D)

Also, where can I get a drunken Shep action figure? LOL I can’t help but laugh when looking at it. Mind showing us the rest of them?

Thanks Joe! Have a great Monday! I know I won’t 😛 It’s my first day back at school after almost a month off. I’m not looking forward to going back to the daily grind (2more years then freedom!!)

He comes from Perth…got it Joe…Perth…gateway to the highlands….Perth…

    Which episode is this from?

Judging from Susan’s Scotland avatar…it’s probably from the episode in her mind where Beckett reveals that he’s from the same place she is. 😛

  53. Only 2 questions this time 1.Will there be any new soundtracks coming out? Ori music rocks. 2. its was said that “The Last man” was a time travel episode..is this correct???

  54. Hey Joe,
Like the new layout for the site.

Also loved the BAMSR and SOW. Great two parter!
    Keep up the great work.

    And your awesome blogging!

  55. Rewatched BAMSR today. I haven’t changed my opinion about John taking Teyla off-duty or Ellis’ reaction to Rodney. I still believe them to be mistakes.

I don’t think I expressed enough before at how great of an episode it is. I love every single bit of it. The ending knocked me on my butt, Joe! It still gets me every time.

Question: We’re thinking of splurging for a Blu-Ray DVD player. It’s looking as if that format may win the HD wars. Will SG-1 or SGA ever find it’s way on Blu-Ray or HD DVD?

  56. Earlier, I was so besotted with the Giants’ win, prime rib, and Bubba-dom (loved Rob C.’s justly proud and happy expression over his creation), that I forgot to say how much fun it was to study Martin and Rob’s expressions as they looked at what I assume was the “drunken Shep” figure. It sort of looks like at one point they were both thinking, “WTF?” – and that maybe Rob wound up laughing, while maybe Martin was thinking seriously about no longer playing with dolls.

This page layout does have a very handsome, welcoming, warm-looking color scheme with nice accents (the header, etc.); but ideally the designer would’ve coded in numbered comments. People’s screen names are harder to find now if you’re doing a quick scroll to remember who said what, in order to reply or tuck away for future reference. – Okay, enough griping. I’ll just have to get the Death Star out of storage and make sure these matters are attended to.

Anne Teldy, thanks for finding and posting the URL for Joe’s profile page. I clearly didn’t look far enough through the FAQ’s, and am more than puzzled why WordPress doesn’t make this info more accessible. – Annie from Fremantle, thanks for clearing up the confusion that I gather I contributed to, over how to put text in boldface or italics. (Or both, if you want.) To think I hadn’t even been drinking … if I had, I probably would’ve realized it would be wiser to let someone else field the question.

  57. After today’s games I’m rooting for a Green Bay Vs New England match up. Nothing like the unstoppable ‘evil’ Pats and the old warrior Farve.

What’s in your CD player or top 5 I-Pod playlist?

I’ve got: Pink Floyd’s “Echoes”, Radiohead’s “In Rainbows”, Nine Inch Nails “Year Zero” and Nirvana’s “Unplugged” in rotation right now.

  58. Carol Z isn’t the only one interested in seeing the shooting scripts; I enjoy reading scripts for shows and movies, seeing what the writers’ vision was, and how that got translated to the screen.

There is one book of SG-1 scripts available through Titan Books; it pales in comparison to the books put out for other shows like Babylon 5 (all the scripts by the executive producer, or some 80% of the total), Doctor Who (the complete first season—alas, sales weren’t high enough to justify continuing), or Star Trek (The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine making their entire set of scripts available on searchable CD-ROMs).

  59. Love the new decor, very classical.
Spoils of War was an amazingly awesome episode, I really love the interaction between the humans and Todd not to mention the humour he displays. Then there is Rodney, I knew just how he felt when the Queen decided to choose him first and chortled my socks off at his response.
My dogs don’t bother with the TV but are excellent guard dogs, one’s bark freezes people in their tracks while the other moves in for a terminal fuss.

  60. Hi Joe!

I’ve been reading your blog for a while but never posted a question/ comment before. So heres to my first time 😉

My question isnt Stargate related, it has to do with GRRM and his SOIAF series. I was wondering which male and female character you enjoyed the most and if there was any character you couldn’t stand?

I’d have to go with Arya and Tyrion (although I really like The Hound as well) and couldnt stand Joff and, odd enough, Dany.

  61. Joe,

I just found read your blog from beginning to end and I laughed a lot. You are hilarious! I am attending the STARGATE CONVENTION 2008 (VANCOUVER) in April. It will be my first time at such an event. Will you be there? I’d love to meet you and hear your comic voice first hand! Your talent is event, especially with your Nigerian scam email responses. Being an Industrial Security Professional for over 25 years I have to admit that I never thought to respond in such a manner. I usually just forward same to the Secret Service 419.fcd@usss.treas.gov email account to add to the many they already receive. Your playing with these “foreign” scammer is very ingenious indeed! Thanks for having such a great imagination.

    Best regards,

    Patricia Marquis

  62. hi Mr Mallozzi,

Back in 1997,when there was no SG1 to air here in France, I wrote this as a pitch for an Heroic-Fantasy novell I was writing:

    Sur les traces des Anciens,
Le long de chemins dont nul ne se souvient,
Avec au-dessus de nos têtes l’Eternité pour ciel
    Et les étoiles pour guides,
    Nous retournons là-bas;
Sous nos pas la poussière de siecles
    d’abandon.

11 years later, it seems to describe Stargate Atlantis…..

  63. Poor Robert and Paul. But honestly. Once the Curse of Jessica hit the C’boys, they were doomed. After all, look what she did to MTV. 🙂

  64. I was disappointed that the Colts lost. Since Indianapolis is my ‘old stomping grounds’, I was hoping that they’d win. However, The GIANTS WON!! Dallas played a great game. For awhile I actually thought that the Giants might lose, but they WON!! Sorry Rob.

Our dog,(like Jelly, Maximus and Lulu), doesn’t bark at the t.v. either. I have to admit, though, that I don’t blame Bubba at all for barking at Rap music. I’m actually surprised that he doesn’t growl at it – I certainly do.

  65. Just today someone gave me a prescreener copy of the Ark of Truth they got off the internet….but I couldn’t bring myself to watching it….I deleted it off my Hard Drive.

  66. Hey Joe, just had a thought. Maybe Bubba knows that Chairman Kaga is an alien – after all, the Chairman for Iron Chef America is actually Satedan… 🙂

  67. Hey Joe,

Just out of curiosity, when you said Ratings were up almost 20% for BAMSR from Adrift were you basing it on the 1.2 HH rating? That would put the episode at a 1.4 for Live!? That would be awesome!!! Also, do you have any word on “Spoils of War”. I am one of those fans that want to see the show do well. Shocker huh?

    Have a great day!

    Squall78

    P.S. Go Giants!! I’m from NY! :p

  68. Je ne suis qu’un membre de ce forum. Sorry for my english

In your answer to a question of PG15, you say : “The Asurans are not the originals’ and I find this too easy explanation and incohèrente. I know that you go ignored this comment. But so your explanation that diotes you just then the city Atlantis will owe credit note of the problem because it is Asurans which reconstructed her. You utter an excuse tin to hide the incohèrences that you make throughout this season, and numerous she(it) are.

It will be time when you stop to make incohèrence to everything goes and when you look before producing an episode, if the story and the given explanations is exact and not erronnés.

    Thank you.

  69. My husband barks at Patricia Arquette, too. I think it’s the crazy eyes.

  70. I got my SGA action figures last week – now I just have to find the time to put away the Christmas decorations so they can be displayed proudly on top of my desk – just in time for a family birthday party – I must remind all inlaw members of my obsessions 🙂

SOW so totally rocked!! From the action to the character moments – the episodes keep getting better and better!!

    Thanks!

  71. Did you get kicked off your other blog again? Seriously, we can’t take you anywhere!

  72. I really, really like this “Quentin” theme. Classy and masculine. Good font size. Only quibble is that the name of the person who comments is very small. Please urge people to “sign” their posts.

    Anne Teldy

  73. Thanks for the lovely pic of the lovely Alan M. It now adorns my computer desktop, in spite of the plaid. 🙂

So how did the bloopers DVD extra come out? How about the Save Carson featurette? We at SCB are both proud and scared to be so honored. Maybe a bit more scared than proud.

  74. Nice new layout!

I was 0/3 on football picks. (There’s a reason I don’t make a career in Las Vegas with this…) What with being a Cowboys fan, I’m sad they lost but not entirely surprised. (They had an awful December performance afterall. I’ll blame it all on Jessica Simpson.)

Now all I can say is “Go Packers!” They have the best chance of beating the Patriots. (We all know the Chargers won’t win.)

When I watch Medium tonight I’ll think of Bubba.

  77. Hey Joe!

“Spoils of War” was amazing and revealed tons of facts about the Wraith! Thanks! 🙂

I am curious, as the series was created in Vancouver, were you a fan of the ReBoot CGI series some years ago?

    – Enzo Aquarius

  78. Speaking of football, who are you rooting for out of the final four? I only ask because although we’re living in the mid-west now, my family is from New York and HUGE (and I’m not exaggerating) Giants fans. Until Sunday, I hadn’t known grown men could make such noises. I’d just like to know who you’ll be cheering for so I know whether or not to disown you completely.

Oh, and can you tell me EXACTLY how many minutes and/or seconds each actor has on-screen in The Ark of Truth? I know you didn’t bring your stop-watch to Continuum, but is it too much to hope for that you brought it to AOT?! I’m crossing my fingers.

  79. Good evening, and I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know my copy of Season 3 arrived by courier this morning, there’s Amazon service for you.

Is there any chance we’ll see one of the Wraith Dart’s the expedition has picked up over the years?
    Thanks.

  80. How nice – the colour and font are just right. Are you going to stick with this theme this time? I know a change is as good as a holiday but please, holiday time is now officially over!

My sympathies to Neep – I have been there sister and it is not nice. Those #$%@$ crutches are a pain and you feel like you should be wearing a T-shirt with a big red L on it.

The worst of it is that it’s only (only!) a sprain and you are gonna master the crutches about the same time as you no longer need them.

    Ah, such is life 😉

  81. aren’t you going to blog at your blogsopt blog any more? there hasn’t been anything there since jan. 11

  82. Hey, Joe. I’d just like to echo a common sentiment around here: the degree of communication between you guys that make the show and us fans who watch it is phenomenal. Its just one of the many things that helps to make Stargate so awesome!

    Couple of quick questions:

    1. In This Mortal Coil, we see Ancient ships on a couple of occasions. One of them is the Aurora-class that we all know and love, but the ship that attacked Sheppard’s team seemed different – the front end was more “spikey” than the rounded end I’m used to on the Aurora. Is that a different class of Replicator ship, or is it just us seeing an Aurora from an unusual angle?

    2. What happened to the Tria – the Ancient ship from The Return? With its Hyperspace engines broken it wouldn’t have been able to get very far on its own, and the Ancient survivors were taken home in the Daedalus (hence them “beaming down” Asgard style. Is the Tria still drifting around near Midway, or has she been salvaged? If so, are there any plans for us to see her again?

    3. I used to read a lot when I was younger, but I’ve sorta fallen out of the habit lately. Its a fantastic way of relaxing: could you recommend a couple of “must read” books from the last couple of years?

I’ve always thought that the difference between good and evil depends on which side you are standing on. Each side always can always justify their actions.

Keeping this in mind I wanted to say how much I’m enjoying the character Todd. The first time I saw the Wraith I thought they were the scariest bad guy I had seen, but the more I learn about them the more I understand their motives and I’m softening to them!

The way they have developed as a species you have to give them credit for, which brought a question to mind. Did the Wraith develop their hyper space abilities on their own or did they steal/get assistance? To develop technology as advanced as theirs with an organic base I find fascinating.

As for the dogs, your list will grow if you sit them down for a bit of Discovery Channel. Just put on an African wildlife doco or a Sth American jungle/Andes trek and you won’t have to wait long for the effect – might want your camera handy too. A great provider of amusement over the years for us.

  84. Katie S said: TMN has the first air rights to SGA in Canada, unfortunately. I pay 14.99/month solely to watch SGA. It’s worth it!

Is TMN The Movie Network? *sighs* I’m a poor University student still looking for a co-op job. Now, if I had a job I would definetly spring for the $15/month. But sadly at this point in time, it’s a no go. Also, don’t you need digital cable? I will just have to wait for the DVD’s like I did with the other seasons.

Thanks for the response Katie S.

  85. What a terrible weekend for my favs the Cowboys and the Colts. Enough of football.
It is obvious to me that John doesn’t want either Teyla or the baby to be hurt. Let’s discuss some Stephen R. Donaldson on the book reviews, what do you think?

  86. I loved Spoils of War. I thought the interaction between John and Teyla was great. I love the new decor…very easy on the eyes. Change is fun, sometimes.
My dog doesn’t bark at the television, but when we’re outside he barks at the leaves…seriously. He’s only a 10 lb. dachshund, but to be on guard about the leaves is a bit much. Maybe in his old age he is becoming senile. He seems to bark at the strangest things now that he is older. At least he still barks at people at the door, so he makes for a good door bell.

  87. “Becky also writes: “On another subject, how likely are we to have a visit from General O’Neill in season 5?”

Answer: At present, a visit by O’Neill is not in the cards. I stress “at present”.”

If I recall correctly, you have a time travelling puddle jumper. Could you not just jump a few months and see if he O’Niell will be in future plan? 😀

  88. My mom got Showtime years ago, just so she could watch SG:SG1. She mentioned it to Michael Shanks when she got his autograph at the Creation Ent. convention last August & his reaction was “Oh Cool.”

  89. Best wishes to Neep for your ankle injury. I cringe when I hear of ankle sprains, as I spent four months (Oct 06 to Jan 07) in a leg brace after breaking two ligaments in a really bad sprain. Did you know it was possible to bruise your bone marrow? I didn’t, until I got the MRI results! I’ve been off the crutches for almost a year now, but still have problems with the ankle (can take 2-3 years to get back to almost normal). Sigh. Ah, for the good old days when walking was easy! Neep, I hope your recovery goes quickly and smoothly.

  90. As per above last comment/answer from Joe:
Carol Z writes: “Is it possible to purchase SGA scripts from past eps anywhere online? I don’t mean the free transcripts, but actual shooting scripts, that were used to shoot the eps?”

Joe M.’s Answer: To the best of my knowledge, actual shooting scripts are not available for sale.

Why not? Many other shows offer them for sale. Some die-hard fans, like myself, REALLY hope you guys offer them at some point.
Shall I enlist other Mallozzites here in blogland to join my hew and cry!
*** WE WANT SCIPTS! *** Repeat 3 times and raise a fist, stomp a foot, but always end with pretty PLE-E-ASE?

  91. Am I the only person who hates the “Snap Preview” of the photos? They make scrolling slow for me and they never quite seem to show anything useful any way.

Mr. M, the instructions to turn them off are here.

    Anne Teldy

  92. Hi Joe!!! Love the new look of your blog..Very easy on the eyes..;-)..SOW was awesome!!!..Really strange to se Rodney standing next to “Todd” working together…I have a question about the season 1 episode “HOME”…In Weir’s alternate reality; Simon gave Weir a heart-shaped necklace…When she returned from that planet to Atlantis..She was wearing the same necklace…did I miss something? I think about it every time I see her in other episodes…If that other reality was a figment of her imagination; wouldn’t that also apply to the necklace?..also, will it ever come up that Rodney named a whale after Sam??? That’s so hilarious..!!!!
    ****THERESA FROM BALTIMORE****

  93. This is my first post ever anywhere but I just wanted to ask a quick question. How soon do you know when an actor will/will not be returning in reguards to script writing? Does it not make it difficult, and IMHO, a waste of time to write a scene/whole plot around a specific person only to find out they are not returning.

  94. Me again! Just repeating my question from Friday, since there was no mailbag that night. Would you mind giving us the S4 answers for your old poem, for the episodes that have aired already?

    Thanks so much! 😀

  95. Interesting story for The Last Man. One question. You said this will open up the door for possible nonhumanoid aliens, and new races altogether. AS well, the cast for TLM is rather big. Will most of them be in flashback scenes?

  96. first off thanks for your time
i know youve alot to do most of the time so thanks again

i writting you because id like to see fran return in future episodes of stargate atlantis

people have started a save fran thread at gateworld forum

My two favorites, as well, VDuchess!

  98. Hey, trekkiegirlt!

Joe didn’t like Thomas Covenant, but I think he should try “Mordant’s Need”. What do you think?

  99. Hey Joe,
Can you show me how to pronounce your last name phonically? Will you be at the STARGATE CONVENTION 2008 in VANCOUVER, BC?

    Thanks

  100. Just today someone gave me a prescreener copy of the Ark of Truth they got off the internet….but I couldn’t bring myself to watch it….I deleted it off my Hard Drive. I don’t know how some people can watch it and spoil it for themselves…especially when it isn’t the final version.

  101. My dog made weird noises all through the episode of Atlantis on Friday night. Though I think that’s because the people on TV kept saying “Teyla,” which is what we named her, and because she wanted my popcorn. Your dog’s just retarded.

  102. I can tell you the one thing I don’t like about the new format is that in the comments, you can barely see the names of who is submitting comments. For someone like me who doesn’t have time to read everybody each day, but who likes to read comments from various people, it’s annoying. Otherwise, it’s as nice as the other way.

  103. As much as I was looking forward to action figures for our SGA team, I have to admit that the “drunken” aspect of the Sheppard action figure has put me off. I find that expression frightening. Having it face in the house would be a bit too Chucky for me, you know?
