The last story slot has finally been filled. We spent most of yesterday spinning, then breaking Harmony which I am really, really, REALLY looking forward to. Alas, I won’t be writing it as Marty G. will be assuming said duties, but I have no doubt he’ll do a brilliant job AND have a lot of fun with it.
No sooner did we finish coming up with the final scene than a little gift arrived, compliments of the Save Carson Beckett campaign. Okay, not so little. It was a huge bag full of chocolate from Hotel Chocolat in the U.K., comprised of bars, beans, nibs, and wham bams. This follows on the heels of the chocolate delivery I received compliments of Pauline the other day – a heavenly assortment of bars. It, in turn, followed on the heels of the assortment my sister-in-law, Grace, picked up for me on her recent trip to London. This coming off the bars gifted me by Michelle (of the SCB campaign) during Comic Con. Among the latter was a fiery dark chocolate chili and red peppercorn that is, to put it mildly, an acquired taste. Check out Carl’s reaction to the unexpected “burst of singular flavor”.
Watched the Day 2 Mix of Travelers yesterday. Great episode (Hey, Sheppard bruised and bloodied – what’s not to like?), and tremendous work on the part of Joel Goldsmith who produced a terrific score. To all of you Sam fans dying for a hint of what’s going on with Carter’s love life, you’ll have to wait until Trio for a not-so-subtle tip-off. Let the gang at SDJ begin their predictable hysterics…NOW! The director’s cut of Miller’s Crossing came in a little long which will probably mean a scene or two not making the cut – but hopefully finding their way onto a future Deleted Footage Special Feature. By the way, guest star Steven Culp is terrific in this one. Finally, we will get around to breaking that Sheppard on Earth story next week along with what we hope will be the season finale.
Finished George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Loved the politics, duplicity, humor, and seemingly endless cavalcade of characters. I’ve switched over to scifi for a change of pace, making my way through Frederik Pohl’s Gateway, and will be dropping by my local bookstore to pick up Scott Lynch’s Red Seas Under Red Skies. And, since we’ll be off for the long weekend, I’m bringing the sequel to A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, along just in case I have time between the new dog, the visiting relatives, and the con I’ll be dropping in on this Saturday.

Joe, I’m reading Clash of Kings now. I agree with your impression of Game of Thrones. Here’s a doohickey for voracious readers such as yourself. Take a look at the Sony Reader for e-books. Capacity is 64 MB. Martin’s books are each appx 2.5MB. The average novel is 800KB-1MB. Imagine how many books you can store in this device? I know, I know, I said it myself, “But, I like the feel of a book in my hand!” The six-inch screen is satisfactory. And, I can download my Word and Adobe files, too. Just sayin’.

Another Michael picture. Thank You! Since all of the episodes are now scripted, I guess we won’t be seeing Daniel stopping by Atlantis. To say that I’m disappointed would be an understatement. I was hoping for at least a cameo.
It sounds like season 4 is shaping up really nice though. I think Amanda is going to be a great addition to the cast. If there is a season five maybe Daniel/Michael can do a guest spot then. I just have a really hard time believing that Daniel wouldn’t go to Atlantis. Especially when it’s canon in the show that he’s been trying to get there since he found it.
I apologize for being so down about it. It’s my own fault for having my hopes up. (((Hugs)))

SDJ? Do you mean that Daniel’s in trouble again? You couldn’t possibly kill him off now. No one would believe it. Even if Daniel got zatted twice, chopped up in little bits and tossed into a sun which then exploded, everyone would still just be waiting around for his eventual reappearance. Or does that connect with the previous sentence about Carter’s love life? If so, I can only say…ew. But anyway, it’s good to see we’ll get some more definitive answers regarding Sam. (Assuming, of course, that it indicates Sam/Jack, otherwise I’ll just be irked. I loved the first three Song of Ice & Fire books, but George took sooooo long to write the fourth, and then it took two years to go to mass market-size, I decided to just wait till he finishes the series and read them all, including the first three agian, back to back. He was a hoot to interview — although I was nervous as hell because he insisted it be over the phone, and it was only the second interview I’d ever done. It took me something like three hours to transcipt a 25-minute coversation (I can type much faster these days!) … Ah, fond memories ….
Shep whump is good. I’m holding out for McKay whump, though … followed by some nice “comfort”! *evil grin*
Speaking of which, I second the wish someone had yesterday for some good McShep — er, McKay/Sheppard friendship moments, of the not-nearly-so-snarky, plenty-angsty variety. Not that I don’t like the snarky kind, mind, ’cause I do … And while I certainly like other characters, I, for one, never get tired of those two in particular. Just showing my support, here. *Grin*

I finished reading my copy having bought it on holiday about an hour into my ten hour journey back down south yesterday and hadn’t been able to get a Clash of Thrones before leaving. don’t you just LOVE to hate some characters? especially the inbred ones LOL. going into town this afternoon to pick up book two (three, three and a half and four as well!!)Now to catch up with all thats happened while I’ve been away.

I never watched SG-1, so I don’t mind whatever character you chose to ship Carter with, but I’m curious. Will be something just mentioned, or an actor appearance? Because if it’s the later, I guess you will be shipping her with a new character or someone from SGA (since you said there will be no RDA in s4)… I don’t mind one way or the other. I don’t ship anyone in SGA so I’m open to any story. Anything’s welcome 🙂

I thought you said that Sam was going to be a supporting character on Atlantis. I just read an article that said Tapping will be ‘headlining’ Atlantis. Where does that leave Joe F. It seems like all of the publicity is about Amanda and Joe is being ignored. I thought Joe was the star of the show. Shep is the main reason I watch Atlantis. When I constantly read articles that make it sound like Atlantis would have failed if it wasn’t for Amanda joining the show it makes me not want her character to be there at all, and it’s a huge insult to Joe who is suppose to be the lead character of the show. Joe please let’s keep the hysterical lot straight. The SDJ was all about Daniel Jackson and many from that campaign have nothing now to do with the lot over at a certain delphi forum whose lives seem to revolve around the bashing of Sam Carter.
They are the poor lost souls of stargate fandom who are mentally and emotionally stunted in this area not the overall Daniel Jackson fans who fought so hard to get him back with on the show.
More accurately it should be ‘let the OS hysterics begin now!’

Do you know yet whether SciFi learned it’s lesson this year regarding the 6 month break between the first half & second half of the season which basically killed SG-1’s ratings and almost killed Atlantis’? Will Atlantis be shown with only a month or 2 break in Season 4?
Like many others, I’m hoping the “not-so-subtle tip-off” will be about the Sam/Jack ship. I’ll be extremely disappointed if it’s any other way. I really will.
September’s going to be a grand month. The regular season of football will be starting and Stargate. Wonderful! Do you have a favorite football team?
Season Four continues to sound better and better! I can’t believe it’s still only early August! Sigh.
One question which has been bugging me for ages though, is that is there any possibility Connor Trinneer will be returning to guest star in any episodes for Season Four? Because that would be just plain awesome.

I would take everything you read with a pinch of salt, I do. However, Carter coming to Atlantis needs to be publicised, or non hard core fans won’t know. So, I’m not concerned with Joe/Shep being usurped at all. Joe M has said what Sam’s role will be, and that the show is primarily about the team with lots of support from those around them, Carter included. I believe that until I see otherwise.

I saw part of the SGA panel vid on Scifi. A fan asked about a season 5 and you turned to Nora and besides looking very uncomfortable she gave the answer all the fans hate “watch it live”. Most of us do but it doesn’t matter since none of us have a Nielsen box(do they really exist?) Imagine if we did, the ratings would be off the charts. I’m really disappointed that someone didn’t remind her that the true fans can’t help the ratings without a box and it’s time for TPTB to rethink and revamp the way ratings are gathered. Any thoughts on this?

Normally since I’m a Sam/Jack shipper I would be excited about any news regarding the ship, however I wish you hadn’t brought up SDJ along with it. It’s hard to celebrate what could be good news when you have another Sam/Jack shipper, who seems very bitter and is holding a grudge, come on the ship thread and bash a group of fans regarding something that happened years ago.
You have said that you consider ALL fans important to the success of the show. I totally agree. I was very proud to see the majority of Sam/Jack shippers not respond to such a hateful post against other fans.
I do wish that you would clarify what you said because Solutions is also being bashed along with SDJ and neither one has anything to do with OS. I do agree with one of the mods on gateword that the Shep/Weir vs the Shep/Teyla is ALOT worse than what you’re talking about. She should know. She keeps very, very busy.

Last night I crashed on my brother’s sofa with my sister-in-law’s pillow, my niece’s blankets and my nephew’s French Bulldog sleeping on my feet. The snoring… When I played the bagpipes, I once managed to sleep in the corner of the band hall with a full pipeband rehearsing. I couldn’t sleep with one French Bulldog snoring.

Great plot. Thankfully that’s already been written for one of the Stargate Atlantis characters, as, well it is called Stargate Atlantis, and SG1:A.
MS is a great actor and I wish him well, but not in SGA. As a fan of both shows, I am content with Sam coming over even though I liked Weir. But, there comes a point where the show needs to come into its own without reliance on the sister show.
While I loved SG1, it’s had a great run and 10 years to shine. I’d like SGA to be given the chance to do the same with it’s own character development and storyline. I know I won’t be disappointed in S4 as there is a lot of stuff to look forward to. But given the option (although I know I have none), i’d like as few crossovers as possible, and then only when it’s pertinant to the story line. If all the characters from SG1 came over (which I know is highly unlikely and therefore am not going to get into a tizzy over this) then the whole dynamic would change, just at a stage where things are ‘gelling’. So, I have faith in Paul and Joe, to make the right decisions regarding SGA and sometimes all you need is a bit of faith.
I agree Pauline. I love that picture of Michael too. I love seeing the actors laugh really hard like that. Ben must have said something really funny.
I agree with you too that Michael does evil so well. Absolute Power is on right now. He’s great in it. *sigh* The director of JI said that Michael can do that evil look with his eyes really well. Can’t wait to see him play evil in Rage of Angels. Like you, I would also love to see Daniel stop by Atlantis. Any chance of that Joe?
Hope SG-1 shippers don’t get their hopes too high. And I hope anti-shippers don’t start a “war” just because Carter’s love life will be mentioned in an episode…
You realize that Joe said a hint, don’t you? It could be just Carter saying to another character “I haven’t been involved with anyone”. Or, on a positive thought for S/J shippers, she could say “I’ve been involved with someone for the last few years.”
It seems to me that a “hint” is just that, one or two sentences about whether she has been with someone or not… she might not even say anything about who she’s been with, if she indeed has been dating someone.

I don’t want Daniel on SGA as a regular either. However I do want Daniel to do a guest spot or two on SGA. If they can come up with a reason for Teal’c to be there than why not Daniel? It doesn’t make any sense story wise for Daniel not to go. Especially if Sam goes and SG1 has disbanded again. Sam, Daniel and Teal’c are a team. While Sam is in Atlantis where’s Daniel going to be. Will SG1 still be together without Sam?
I don’t want Daniel to take any screen time away from the Atlantis cast either, but 1 or 2 guest spots wouldn’t do that. Even Daniel/Michael doing a cameo would help explain why Daniel couldn’t make it to Atlantis (again). I’m thrilled that Sam is going to be on Atlantis, but Sam being there doesn’t explain why Daniel’s not.

Joe tell me it’s true that we Sam/Barrett shippers are finally going to get our day in the sun and Sam is going to admit she really does love him and they have been working things out.
OK so I know that will probably happen about the same day that Col. Makepeace gets exhonorated and it is revealed he was working deep under cover and he gets to go on his first expedition to Atlantis, but a Carter/Barrett shipper can hold onto her dreams too right?
So if it’s not Barrett then I have always also felt that Sam and Cam are good for each other too. I would love to see Ben Browder on SGA.
But the Sam/Barrett ship has always been my first choice for her.
