You know what I love even more than going to one of my favorite restaurants for dinner? Going to that same restaurant for lunch. As was the case today when I went to Fuel for lunch with Fondy, her business partner Shawne, and our friend Josie. Now the nice thing about going out with the girls is that I have the opportunity to try dishes I normally wouldn’t order. Dishes like the housemade ricotta and arugula salad, and the smoked chicken and romaine salad. In short – the salads. Now far be it for me to knock salads (even though I’m almost certain the sprouts that adorned my sunchoke soup were the culprit in my bout of food poisoning last month, and am ever-mindful of the Caesar salad that did in a fellow producer so badly that he was vomiting up blood – I mean, when was the last time an ailing diner pointed the finger at the braised veal cheeks? But I digress). I went in with an open mind and was rewarded. Both salads were very good. Not as good as my smoky chorizo sausage sandwich on a fresh Portugese bun with red pepper a side of sweet and salty red onion rings, but still very good. I suppose I could have had the salad as a side but my utterly delicious order of morel mushroom risotto topped with sea asparagus was already pulling side plate duty.

Like I said – the nice thing about going out with the girls is that I have the opportunity to try dishes I normally wouldn’t order. Except in the case of dessert because, to my frustration, it’s something they usually skip. And at lunch in particular. That warm caramel brownie with vanilla ice cream, cocoa, and cardamom soup had my name on it. But, alas, so did the script impatiently awaiting my return at home, so I skipped the sweets and headed back home where –

I finished Act the Third. I’m going to need to go over them and fine tune the dialogue but, hey, I’m not complaining. Top of page 37, start of Act Four, and I’m taking the rest of the day of to read.

Finished two books over the course of the past four days(ish). The first was Joe Abercrombie’s Before They Are Hanged, the second book in his First Law series. Now, as most of you know, I’m not a big fan of high fantasy. Earnest quests involving dwarves and elves and plucky princesses don’t do it for me. However, I was quite impressed with first-time author Scott Lynch’s book The Lies of Locke Lamorra – a nice mix of roguish adventure, rich world-building, and dark humor. Abercrombie’s work (The Blade Itself, and Before They Are Hanged) is very different in terms of the type of story told, offering up a wonderful cast of flawed adventurers, some truly heinous villains, and a titanic quest – fantasy tropes to be sure but, like Lynch, Abercrombie does a masterful job of setting these tropes on their respective ears. The flawed adventurers are maybe a little too flawed and keep getting, er, flawier. The villains are almost impossible to get a handle on. And as for that quest – well, I’ll leave it to the reader to check out the surprise Abercrombie has in store for them at book’s end. And, as an added bonus, dark doings and equally dark humor abound. I liked the first book in the series a lot but really loved this, the second. Now I have to wait until March of next year for the third installment.

In the meantime, I have more than enough books to keep me busy like, for instance, Iain M. Banks’ (not to be confused with Iain Banks who, incidentally, is the same author but writing in a different genre) Consider Phlebas. An incredibly inventive, thoroughly entertaining, off-the-wall space opera that, clocking in at some 470 pages, took me all of two days to get through. What can I say? The Eaters and their disgustingly rotund leader. The big-stakes game of Damage in which players bet lives (but not their own). The Clear Air Turbulence and its crew of misfit mercenaries led by a captain who never sleeps thanks to the fact that his brain has been partitioned in three parts so that while one third of his brain sleeps, two-thirds are always awake. All this amidst a interstellar war pitting the machine-minded Culture against the warrior Idirans with humans little more than bit players in grand affair. The Player of Games, his second book in this, his Culture Series, is on my list of Books to Read on Hiatus. If it’s as good as the first, I plan on picking up the entire series.

Next up, for a nice change of pace, I’ll be reading The SFWA European Hall of Fame: Sixteen Contemporary Masterpieces of Science Fiction from the Continent, a collection of “never before published in English” SF short stories.

On the viewing front: Finished the first season of Dexter the other day. Yerm. Flight of the Conchords, the new HBO comedy series focusing on a hard-luck two-man band struggling to make it in New York – punctuated by hilarious musical numbers! It’s dry, deadpan humor reminds me a lot of the original Office. It’s a welcome addition to an otherwise dreadful t.v. summer schedule.

Pics: chorizo sandwich, morel mushroom risotto, me mesmerized by some scintillating dinner conversation, Jelly enjoys the Summer sun and the dogwalker’s hat.

Q&A –

Propagandor writes: “ Joe is there any question your supprised hasn’t been asked yet? Something you were sure would come up. If so what would your answer be?”

Answer: As a matter of fact there is one big question that hasn’t been asked that I was sure would come out. And my answer to it would be: “You’ve got a lot of nerve asking me that but I admire your courage and will respond to your brave query. The answer is a surprising NO but “the red one” has always been considered a very strong possibility. Thanks for asking and that’s the last I’ll ever comment on this subject.

Imitation tofu writes: “Joe, are you planning on photographing any of your ice cream creations this summer? “

Answer: Yup, when the time comes.

Imitation tofu also writes: “What do you think that Jewel Strait and her character will bring to the CMO position that Paul McGillion and Carson Beckett could not?”

Answer: The question seems to suggest that we offed Beckett in order to replace him with Keller which wasn’t the case.

Mackenziesmomma writes: “ Can we get an update on the pug you are ‘definantly not getting’?”

Answer: The pug we won’t be getting won’t be able to leave his mom until August which is when we won’t be getting him.

PG15 writes: “ I do live very close to Bridge Studios (around Metrotown), perhaps I should come down personally tomorrow to receive my prize?”

Answer: Sadly, the sets are dark for the next three weeks. However, do include your email in your next post. I promise not to approve it and share it with the all of the readers of this blog (but will sell it to that UK Lottery Corporation that has informed me I’ve won 10 million dollars in a recent draw I didn’t even enter. Here’s hoping you should be so lucky).

Sarah writes: “I believe you mentioned a while back that you had picked up season one of Veronica Mars. Have you watched it yet?”

Answer: Not yet.

Little Raven-Hawk writes: “Who is going to there for the panel at Comic Con that you know of?”

Answer: So far, I believe Michael, Chris, Amanda and Ben for the SG-1 panel with Rob Cooper being a strong possibility. As for the Atlantis panel, I believe Amanda, David, probably Joe and myself. Nothing has been finalized. That I know of.

Anonymous #1 writes: “By the way, are you going to AE07?”

Answer: I don’t even know what that is.

Anonymous #2 writes: “Why are the beds in Atlantis single beds?”

Answer: The Ancients were a very uptight race.

Vaberella writes: “I was watching Top Chef and was introduced to black chicken. Have you ever had it?”

Answer: Yup. I’ve always known it as Silkie chicken and have had it on more than one occasion. It’s very good.

Shawna writes: “In all honesty, how much does an actor’s image play into the casting decision?”

Answer: It really depends what we’re casting for. For instance, if we’re looking for a beautiful Ancient to tempt Sheppard, we’re going to need someone who looks the part. That said, talent is still our first priority when it comes to casting.

Anonymous #3 writes: “Is there friendship growth between Teyla and Rodney this season?”

Answer: Yup. There’s a particularly sweet scene in Be All My Sins.

Platschu writes: “Can we hope that Brad Wright or Robert C. Cooper will make major announcement about the third SG series at the Comic Con in July?”

Answer: Don’t hold your breath.

Ah that refresher key never gets old, hey PG15. 😉

Anonymous #2 writes: “Why are the beds in Atlantis single beds?”

Joe says: The Ancients were a very uptight race.

*spews coffee over the keyboard* Tissue anyone?

    *goes to bed still giggling*

  2. I am surprised at the girls not eating dessert. We usually decide on dessert and plan our main meal accordingly.

Which Pug is shown in your blog? He/she looks cute. Is this a naughty pug or a good pug?

  3. It’s not a fancy place — more like a deli — but if you get a chance when you are down here in San Diego, I recommend you try El Indio for good Mexican food that is typical of this part of the world (no, I don’t work there).

I haven’t tried everything there, but the only thing I haven’t particularly liked there is the rice, which is a little bland for my taste.

Only me again, have I lost the plot, or has your blog just changed? 😀

Ooooh and did I see mention of a quest? I that the one where the hero rides off into the sunset, with the sun blazing down on his semi nekkid torso? 😀 I look forward to the ending on that one. 😉

    *hugs*

And yep this time i’m definately going. 😀

  5. Mackenziesmomma writes: “ Can we get an update on the pug you are ‘definantly not getting’?”

Answer: The pug we won’t be getting won’t be able to leave his mom until August which is when we won’t be getting him.

So does that mean that you are definantly not bringing him home then? Does he have a name and description?

  6. Awww bless.. you look rather tired in that photo.. or maybe it’s just that we’re so unused to seeing you in “dress down mode”? 😉 I do hope you are getting a little bit of relaxation time in amongst the writing, reading and blogging during the hiatus?

Love your thoughts on Iain M Banks so far (have you read any of his works under the Ian Banks name? Not SciFi but still very interesting stuff – I particularly enjoyed Whit)… he develops such complex, creative worlds that are so rich that they just draw you in and are utterly absorbing. If you enjoyed Consider Phlebas then I’m sure you will love The Player of Games too and will, like me, end up buying everything he’s written!

I have to say, having met him once, he’s also a lovely, very witty guy.. oh and he has the good taste to share the same favourite single malt whiskey as me. 🙂

  7. Is there a remote possibility that Ronon will develop a crush on Dr. Keller in Season4? The man really needs a love life.

  8. Hey Joe.

You said that Season 4 would have more character driven episodes. We know that “Reunion” will be very emotional for Ronon… Teyla will have a lot to deal with in “Missing” with the Athosians and Rodney going back to earth to deal with his sister sounds like a nice personal episode. My question is “Travelers” sounds more like an action/adv type eppy for Sheppard. Now I’m not complaining, I love Sheppard centered episodes and we all know he is a ‘hero’ archetype….but will it be very emotional for him?

It seems because he’s the military commander of Atlantis he doesn’t get the ‘heavy’ plot lines like the other and I really like to see Joe F flex his acting muscles. (like in Common Ground)..Will we get any personal heavy plot lines for Sheppard this year, or could you explain why we don’t see that type of plot for him, while the others, Like Rodney get some really nice deep eppys like “Grace Under Pressure” “Tao”, “McKay and Mrs. Miller?”

    Thank you.

  9. Joe,

The pups looked too young to be revealing much regarding personality or how they interact with other dogs.
Since any addition must get along with your present crew, what type of temperment are you looking for in a puppy ?

Is there a leader or pack order in your dogs ?

    Silver

  10. Hey Joe, if Jack is not going to be mention in season 4 of Atlantis, est-ce que nous entendrons le theme (song) de Sam/Jack,au moins ? 😛
    Take care!

  11. Hey Joe, thanks for answering my question. That’s reassuring to hear.

I’ve got another, somewhat more random one: Do you ever have Stargate-related dreams? I know a lot of fans will sometimes have dreams that they’re in the show or something. I just wondered if you got any of that.

  12. I start my summer vacation tomorrow – so adios for a couple of weeks. Don’t worry I will be checking when I can 😉
Try to write some super surprising Weir episode. Hey it’ll be like Christmas in July for us “awful” Weir fans.
    Enjoy your summer!

  13. Count me in as one of those that would like to see more interaction/friendship development between McKay and Teyla. There’s already some good chemistry for each of those characters with Sheppard and Ronon, but rarely have McKay and Teyla ever been alone in a scene together (I can really only think of two instances actually).

As for Teyla’s pregnancy…will we find out who the father of the baby is this season or will that remain a mystery?

  14. Question: “Which country would you like to visit, but you never get the chance?”

Answer: I hear Singapore is nice.

Yes, Singapore is nice! It’s food paradise! The local food places are pretty cheap (and good too).

If you were to go there, I don’t think you’d be able to wear your snazzy suits though. It’s very hot and humid.

  15. Hell, forget the rest of the food. Go straight for the dessert. Chocolate mocha cheesecake…and about 8 slices of that.

  16. by AE07 i mean Anime Evolution 2007. I checked the guest list, and looks like you’re on it. See you in August. Maybe I’ll bring a box of chocolates?

  17. You’re brave showing your face at comic con after offing two popular characters. If you really want to get a crowd you should include Paul and Torri in the lineup instead.

That would bring the fans in in droves.

  18. Had there been an eleventh season, would we have gotten more Cameron, and even some Teal’c and Sam connected storylines? Season ten was great, but felt like it felt more like ‘The Daniel and Vala Show’, although I do love Vala 🙂

  19. Hey Joe, have some dining pics for you!

Well I’ve been on a business trip again this week. W00t??? Anyways, the company put me up in the same casino hotel they did the last time I was here, so I had the opportunity to eat at my new favorite Asian restaurant again, The Four Winds.

The food was stunning, absolutely flawless. It’s rare that I find an Asian restaurant that can reproduce the fine quality of food as the Four Winds has done. It has become quite simply, one of the best, if not the best, Asian Restaurant I’ve dined in.

Ok, on to the food and pics!

Of course, the restaurant is in the hotel, which in itself is gorgeous. 4-star I believe. 26 floors, Greco-roman décor, and a nice view of downtown, and of course the casino (I lost, don’t ask).

Now to the food. My guest and I split an order of Pork Spring Rolls for an appetizer. They were very good; the shell was made of paper thin layers of crisp dough, perfectly fried. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, and the pork was tender. Accompanying the Spring Rolls was an assortment of sauces, ranging from a sweet plumb sauce, standard sweet and sour sauce, spice mustard, to an interesting soy sauce and chili pepper concoction.
    Pork Spring Rolls

For my main course, I enjoyed the “Four Winds” Lo Mien, which included Shrimp, Pork, Beef, and Chicken, minus the Shrimp because my guest was allergic; so I suppose it was “Three Winds” Lo Mien.

The Lo Mien was very well cooked, not mushy at all, and a perfect match for all of the veggies. The whole dish was wok-fried and the beef and pork surprisingly tender.
    “Four Winds” Lo Mien

My Guest’s dish was the favorite of the evening though. She ordered Sesame Chicken. And may I say, it was certainly the best I have EVER tasted. Again, the dish was wok-fried. The outside batter was perfectly crisp and the chicken inside still juicy and tender.

The sauce was the real treat though. What an amazing and unusual fusion. Joe I know you’re not typically a fan of fusion, but this was a case of it working incredibly well. It was a traditional sweet sesame sauce, with a taste of strawberry added. It was sweet, but not overpoweringly so. It went equally as well with the chicken as with the strawberries as well.
    Sesame Chicken

And finally, we split an order of Chicken Fried Rice. Again, it was a winner. Freshly prepared chicken, freshly fried eggs, and wok-fried with perfectly cooked rice and veggies.
    Chicken Fried Rice

In short, what a great restaurant. Highly recommended to anyone visiting North Louisiana. The waiting staff was friendly as well, even offering my companion a comedic course in using chopsticks. A course she failed I might add, but much to my amusement :). It was traditional Asian food at its best.

    P.S.
Nice to see you in plain clothes Joe! But you are loosing your super-villain image :). You’re missing out on a great season of Hell’s Kitchen. It never ceases to amaze me how Gordon Ramsey brings out the worst in otherwise competent people! Case in point, don’t pick spaghetti out of a garbage bin, boil it, and try to pass it off as fresh…

    Question: Are you Gay?

Childish indeed, but, I just felt the need to use my freedom of speech while it lasts in this world.

  21. Hi Joe, I am amazed at how season three turned out(from the episodes I saw) and thought to myself, If you EVER find yourself without a idea for an episode drop me a line would ya? I can’t sleep at nightr without having to write so much to get an idea out of my head so i can sleep peacefully.

take care and let everyone know the cat inside Teyla’s sock drawer says hello

  22. …that UK Lottery Corporation that has informed me I’ve won 10 million dollars…

Oh, God, you’re getting those, too? I’ve been keeping track. Six per day, per email account (I have 3). Enough, already!

Joe, I’m continuously amazed by how many books you can tear through in a month. I think I’m just about as busy as you are (I work 90-110 hrs/wk) and it takes me two months just to read an issue of Canadian Screenwriter from cover to cover. I’m starting to think there’s something wrong with me, like I’ve got some sort of learning/information-retention disability.

    Ermmm…what was I saying?

  23. Okay, so Jelly has the dog-walker’s hat. But what, pray tell, did she do with the dogwalker?

And here’s a bookish question for you. When you’re walking down the aisles of the bookstore, how do you decide which books to purchase? Other than recommendations of friends, that is. Is it the cover art? The synopsis on the back? Do you flip the book open and see if it grabs you?

    SueS

  24. Joe,

Can a person be a foodie if he or she doesn’t like a particular food. For instance, I hate mushrooms and anything like liver, kidneys, brain, etc. But I’m willing to try a lot of stuff at least once. Could I still be a foodie? Or am I limiting myself too much?

  25. Are you worried that the higher rating for Atlantis’ season finale isn’t reproducible now that SG-1 isn’t on anymore? It seems that whenever Atlantis does better than 1.1 or 1.2, say a 1.5 or so, then SG-1 has to have a a great week, somewhere around a 1.7 or 1.8. Do you think Atlantis can do that well on its own?

  26. hi Joe,
not going to ask a question for once, but I was wondering if you’d be nice enough to wish my friend Carolina (you know Caroleeeeeeeeeeeeeeena, Teh carolina 😉 ) good luck in your next entry…she just twisted her ankle and broke her right hand and of course she’s right handed !! she can’t do anything anymore ! and guess what ? that happened on the night she organized a special get together with other friends to watch the series finale of SG-1 ! so after all you’re a little guilty too :p she must have been so focused on the night to come that she didn’t watch her steps 😀 (kidding, she’s just not able to carry garbage while using her cell phone and making the right step without ending on her buttocks ;))
I know she’d appreciate you mentionning something, it’d probably make her smile and entertain her for a while 😉
thanks and I would understand if you wouldn’t do it of course 🙂

can’t wait to see the pug you’re not getting again…and read about your famous ice creams !!!!

  27. Keller seems to be a bit nervous/insecure about taking on the position of CMO, yet Weir obviously sees something in her and has faith she’s up to it (and I tend to trust Weir’s opinion about these sort of things). So I’m curious, is Keller going to bring some insecurities with her that we’ll get to see worked into more assured confidence as S4 progresses? Will any of the other regular characters have any doubts at first about her? Maybe a few trials by fire in her near future?

  28. Hi Joe,

First of all, great blog, enjoy reading it every day. Thanks for the info about Comic Con. Since you said the panels are scheduled for Friday, is there any chance that you or any of the actors will be at the Con on Saturday and/or Sunday? For example at the MGM booth?

    Thank you!

    …Question: Are you Gay?

Childish indeed, but, I just felt the need to use my freedom of speech while it lasts in this world.

And what EXACTLY did you mean by that? Because I don’t think I’m the only person that was offended by your little insinuation there. I’m going to assume it wasn’t your intention to fling around your freedom of speech for the purpose of being bigoted and insulting a group of people. But of course if it was, I’m both insulted and saddened by your childish insinuation and insensitivity, and plain old lack of taste and tact.

  30. Hi Joe,

what is the chance that Claudia Black will join Chris, Michael, Amanda and Ben for Comic Con’s SG-1 panel?

Oh my, yes! He should be ashamed for doing his job and having the temerity to make creative decisions about the show! How dare he even go out in public after making some business decisions that some fans don’t like?!! [/sarcasm]

  33. Will we ever learn more about Ancients? I realy would like to know about their culture. Did they just do scientific stuff all day, or did they have fun sometimes? Did they have movies, TV series (Advantures of Furlings season 1 to 16), soup operas, did they play some sports, have music etc.? Because in Atlantis everythings looks so sterile.

  36. Hiya Joe,

In Cairns, snorkelling around the Great Barrier and stopped by a net café to do some printing, when I thought, “Hey, why don’t I check that Stargate dude’s blog…”

I really love the pic of your pug – the thing about pugs is their faces always look sad and I can’t help but adore them. Is that one Jelly?

I have to commend you on the pictures of the ever gorgeous and very fashionable Rachel Luttrel. 😀

I think I glanced at the previous day’s blog and you talked about Singapore being nice? Uh, definitely not. I reckon it’s ok for a 2 day stopover but there’s really nothing much but shopping. Roads, malls, toilets, rooms etc are small. You’ll hit the ceiling, get trampled over trying to take a tube/train and the weather is hot and humid.

Any names on who’s attending Comic Con yet??? I hope that all the cast attend – always look forward to stories.

    Ta,
    M

  37. Yep, Singapore is very nice 🙂

Are there going to be a lot of Wraith scenes in S4? They haven’t been popping up much the previous season. Also, what (if you’re allowed to say) are the possible romances happening next season?

  38. August huh? they sure do keep them with their mum a long time, over here the breeders don’t seem to be ableto get rid of the pupssoon enough and indeed 6 weeks seems to be the norm which is of course a pain in the butt in terms of housetraining etc but does mean the pup settles in quicker, both our dogs were 6 weekers and we never had a disturbed night from day one, both have their individual cages or crates which are their bedrooms and absolutely indispensible in terms of non-shredded mail and dogphobic visitors. Our German Shepherd is a fantastic guard dog and the little Staffy my son brought home is her manager.
When it comes to having lunch out i say skip the first course and go straight for dessert while there is time to work it off in the afternoon, plus the sugar boost is invaluable for that creative spark.
Right, I’m off to finish building my Ark ready for the next lot of floods promised for the weekend.

  39. Dexter is one of my favorite shows! Were you surprised by the turn of events in the first season – or had you figured out who “Bynie”/Rudy was?

Speaking of Dexter, I was thinking, have you ever considered creating a more sinister member of the Stargate team (maybe not the main team, but a periphery character who reaps havoc in the city)?

  40. Singapore fans are all thrilled by your comment. Alas, Stargate does not air here though popular TV shows like BSG, Heroes, LOST, Bones and Rome all do. There’s got to be a way to fix this. Any suggestions?

  41. Most of the pictures of Amanda/Sam that have come out show her with long hair. Is she going to keep it long or will we see the shorter, military style soon?

Also, will we see a Major Davis making any visits to Atlantis?

  42. Joe

I liked your answer to the unasked question.. My you are funny..

Re Singapore .. Do you think it is safe for you to go to Singapore? Isn’t that the place a few years back where they cained a young man for making some unsavoury comments.. and considering your penchant for making controversial
statements it could be dangerous for you??

    Dori

  43. “Is there a remote possibility that Ronon will develop a crush on Dr. Keller in Season4? The man really needs a love life. “

Joe, the only people pushing for Ronon/Keller are the five rabid Shep/Teyla fans who want Ronon out of Teyla’s life so she can romance her daddy fixation.

If we end up with Teyla/Sheppard, Keller/Ronon, McKay/Zelenka/Carter, I will gag myself to another show. Good stories and no soap opera. That’s the ticket.

  44. Hi there Joe,

Many blogs ago -and I’m too lazy to go search for the exact date ;)-someone asked you about your favorite scenes in S10 of SG-1.

You named off a few specific examples (birdcall scene, etc.) and also mentioned that there were several scenes in “Unending” that were among your favorites for S10 but didn’t elaborate (for spoilery reasons, I presume)

Now that all the episodes, including “Unending”, have aired on Scifi would you care to list your favorite S10 scenes again??

Wouldn’t mind hearing the same roundup for Atlantis S3, if you have time.

    Thanks,

    KS in TX

  45. Those salads sound interesting. We just chopped down a pile of homegrown lettuce and ad a huge mixed leaf salad. There was one leaf in the mix that had a really odd flavour though… unfortunately, I don’t know which one it is, as the bed they’re all growing in is a mixture and there’s no tags… woo! I think it was the mustard leaf…

Do you think any of the boys on Atlantis cook? I’d love to see Sheppard or McKay preparing (or trying to prepare) a meal… Was the meal in Duet a Rodney/Cadman concoction? Or a mess hall takeout?

  46. Hm, sorry for the double-post… my laptop’s touchpad is very sensitive and I accidentally brushed it and published the comment before I had a chance to properly sign off.

  47. Although I read your blog daily I haven’t posted a comment in a long time – until now! After reading Demelza’s post it really ticked me off. If season 11 meant more Mitchell than thanks but no thanks. From “Babylon” on season 9 was all Cambo all the time with Sam, Daniel and Teal’c who. Season 10 has basically been Vala and her daughter, Vala and her dad, Vala loses her memory, Vala gets tested to join the team, Vala goes with Mitchell to his high school reunion, and on and on and on.

Season 10 has been Vala with still alot of Mitchell. Teal’c got one episode, Sam got an episode and Daniel got an episode he shared with Jack. How much screen time did Sam, Daniel and Teal’c get in “Bounty”, in “Family Ties’ etc. In “Momento Mori” we got the thrill of seeing Evil Knievel Mitchell popping wheelies off to rescue the damsel in distress while Sam, Daniel and Teal’c stand there looking stupid. Of course we than get to enjoy Mitchell handcuffed to a bed in his underwear eating a twinkie while Sam, Daniel and Teal’c stand there looking stupid yet again.

I guess I should have seen it coming after watching “Crusade”. It was bad enough that the Original Stargate fans had to watch the Big3 wallpapered already in season 9 but when they bring Vala back as a guest character and the guest character gets an entire episode to herself while Sam and Teal’c sit there and Michael is only in the episode for maybe 3 minutes – insulting at best.

I’m sorry Joe to be so negative. I never had a problem with Ben and Claudia JOINING the show but I do have a huge problem with them TAKING OVER the show. I found seasons 9 & 10 a huge insult to Amanda, Michael and Chris

  48. Mr Joe,

My, your bloggers are getting bold and telling YOU what to do. I understand you allow suggestions, but yo, they’re really getting pushy!

    See how dedicated we are!

……Anyway, do you think that the team will get to go to another dimension next season? Maybe someplace where the wraith are different than how they know them to be……

  49. Hey Joe, if you’re feeling particularly generous, a vote for me HERE wouldn’t go amiss. I’m new to blogging and could do with the support.

Oh, and a cheeky mention on the blog would be much appreciated 😉

  50. “Answer: As a matter of fact there is one big question that hasn’t been asked that I was sure would come out… The answer is a surprising NO but “the red one” has always been considered a very strong possibility….”

Would this have to do with Alternate-Mitchell’s line, “When the time comes, cut the green one?” Or, for some reason, the blue jello?

…Joe, the only people pushing for Ronon/Keller are the five rabid Shep/Teyla fans who want Ronon out of Teyla’s life so she can romance her daddy fixation….

I have to agree with this.

  52. Oh No I overslept. I hope I caught you before you left for the Continuum screening. I wanted to remind you that it might be a good idea to take along a notepad and pen so that you don’t forget any details. Any and all juicy tidbits are welcome and don’t forget Brad’s hug if he doesn’t kill off any of the original team. And please make sure that Daniel is in tack at the end of the movie. I don’t mind if he loses a few body parts during the movie( for dramas sake), but I want all body parts replaced by the time the movie is over. Thanks Joe

  53. Who’s your favourite
    1. STARGATE SG-1 CHARACTER?
    2. STARGATE ATLANTIS CHARACTER?
    3. STARWARS CHARACTER?
    4. BOND?

  54. ‘This Mortal Coil’ qui est un épisode centré sur Weir dont le titre de l’épisode est une sitation d’HAMLET (Shakespeare Act 3 Scene 1)avec cette célèbre sitation ” to be or not to be”; Est-ce une suposition à la mort de weir ou comme le dit HAMLET:il imagine et rationalise, donc vous décidez de laisser WEIR en vie, pour le moment du moins?

  55. Any good Mckay banter (fighting) planned for season 4? I love it when he argues with other, it’s such fun 🙂 I expect we’ll see him bicker with Sam and Shep, what about Ronon? Teyla? Zelenka of course 😀 What about Keller? Weir?

  56. HI JOE,

  58. I have to agree with Big3Fan. That says everything I think too and to sum it up using my own words: seasons 9 and 10 were horrible. I’m pretty much of the mind that the show got the ratings it deserved (maybe they were even better then deserved since some of the die-hards were sticking around just for the sake of closing out the show).

  59. landers said: “the only people pushing for Ronon/Keller are the five rabid Shep/Teyla fans who want Ronon out of Teyla’s life so she can romance her daddy fixation”

Ah, speak for yourself, please. Every pairing has its fans and there’s no way of knowing which is more popular with the general audience (a handful of websites online isn’t representative of anything). Then there’re fans that don’t want any pairing in canon, and so on.

I can only speak for myself. I’d certainly prefer no ship between regular characters, but if they go with a pairing, I don’t mind whatever pairing they chose. As long as it doesn’t become the focus of the show and the stories are interesting, I’m OK with any pairing, including John/Elizabeth, John/Teyla, Ronon/Teyla, Ronon/Keller, John/Keller, Rodney/Katie and any other.

  60. yes its me again, I just love reading some of the snarky replies your READERS put to others on YOUR blog, its kinda like coming to your house and switching your TV over! I guess some are quite sensitive to others opinions, I prefer to sit back and sic you on ’em 🙂 Cheers Joe.

  61. Once the team finds out about Teyla’s pregnancy, is she allowed to go on off-world missions?

  62. HI!! DOES DOING A QUESTION IN CAPS MAKE YOU NOTICE ME??

LOL just kidding. What is your fav part of your house??

  63. Ummm, WOW, I’m always impressed by the volume of stuff you do. You eat out and are able to blog about it. You write a Sci Fi Show. You have a wife. You watch movies and seasons of TV shows. You read tons of books.

I do well if I respond to my email, how do you fit it all in!

    Have fun!
    S’Claire

  64. Actually, the other dimension post made me think of something. The wraith in another dimension would be cool, but it would also be cool to learn something about the origin of the wraith. We know that the Ancients planted a human colony on a planet inhabited by the Iratus bug (hope I spelled that right), and that eventually the wraith evolved when the bugs bit the humans. It would be interesting to see something more about this … I guess an episode involving Michael would be a good segue into this type of story line. Actually, I’d like to learn a little more about the Wraith.

Oh, by the way, what happened to the fifth species (we have the Asgaard, Nox, Lantians and now the Tauri). What other species are we missing?

  65. Joe,
Is the panel at Comic Con with Rob, Michael, Chris, Amanda and Ben strictly for the movie Arc Of Truth or is it also for the ending of SG1?

  66. Well you certainly look excited about the conversation at that table lol. Nah you should have just splurged and had the dessert anyway. One thing I’ve noticed when I go out just us girls (ie my sister, my mom and I) no one wants dessert until I order it and then we end up all sharing it. Be sneaky then they can’t blame it all on you in the end hehe.

  67. ComicCon last year was great with the entire awesome Atlantis cast including Joe, Torri, Rachel, Paul, David, you and your writing partner. How ’bout the same guests this year? Why only you, David and Tapping this year with the possibility of Joe F.? What’s left of Atlantis???

  68. hey joe

Do you think you’ll have time to get the final book of the harry potter series in when it releases? 3 weeks away from what I understand. I can’t wait for the next season of SGA! I’m really excited to see how Jewel and Amanda click with the rest of the team.

I’m not much of a fan of relationships amoung the characters, but can we hear about Zelenka’s love life? How about a date with Carter? that’d put McKay in quite the tizzy.

  69. If we end up with Teyla/Sheppard, Keller/Ronon, McKay/Zelenka/Carter, I will gag myself to another show. Good stories and no soap opera. That’s the ticket.

    AMEN!

  70. pfff je n arrive pas a m endormir! je demande daja comment sera l article de demain!

    aller passer une bonne journée!!

since i don’t speak french, i googled this. this is what the translation said:

“pfff I N do not arrive has m to deaden! I ask for daja how will be L article of tomorrow! to go to spend a good day!!”

now, anyone want to translate the translation? :p

    sally 😀

  72. With Jewel Staite and Jill Wagner coming in as good-looking female characters, is there any chance of writing Teyla out of Season 5 and having Larrin as the new generic “leader of her people.”

Because you know it’s interesting that you bring Larrin in just when Teyla will be stuck off raising a kid or whatever.

  73. Have you ever read any of Kim Stanley Robinson’s books?

I really liked the “Mars Trilogy” and “Science in the Capital” series, but he has a couple others that are pretty good as well.

I’ve read that actors attend these cons based on their availability, work and personal commitments, etc.
Joe Flanigan said he catches a flight every Friday night to go to LA where his family lives, and spend the weekend with his wife and kids in LA. I wouldn’t blame him if he prefers to spend that weekend with his family instead of attending a con.
Torri and Paul are not part of the regular cast anymore, so there’s no reason for them to attend (I’m not sure, but I think Paul didn’t attend this con in 2004, because he wasn’t a regular yet).
Jason and Rachel could have other commitments, and it’s not our business.
Intead of assuming hidden agendas, think about the actors being human beings with personal lives beyond the working hours on set.

  75. Regarding this comment from landers:…Joe, the only people pushing for Ronon/Keller are the five rabid Shep/Teyla fans who want Ronon out of Teyla’s life so she can romance her daddy fixation….

Truer words were never spoken! There’s already one rabid Sheyla running around GW with a sig of the two with the text “Jenny Keller got a man” and thanking her fellow shipper (also rabid)

Yep.There’s an agenda there. And it’s so transparent it’s hilarious!

  76. Well if Joe F decides to skipped comic con, that’s his business. Though it wouldn’t come as much of a shock. He usually skips public events or canned at last minute for whatever reasons.

    Aren’t literal translations fun? 🙂

What atlantisfannew1 was saying was effectively, “Grrrr, I can’t sleep! I’m impatient to read tomorrow’s blog entry! Have a good day!”

I hope that makes some sense and satisfies your curiosity… 😀

I have to admit, the transparent agenda of the rabid Shweir shippers bashing the rabid Sheylas for their transparent agenda regarding Ronon/Keller makes me chortle somewhat… 😉

  78. What’s up?. Thanks a bunch for the blog. I’ve been digging around looking some info up for shool, but there is so much out there. Yahoo lead me here – good for you i suppose! Keep up the good work. I will be popping back over in a few days to see if there is updated posts.
